That F86 looks a darn lot like the italeri (esci rebox) i did for the last weekend GB. Not a lot of parts but looks great once finished! I like F86's....

Well,.... as for my own amateuristic fiddling... I have sprayed the gloss black on my twin mustang. Always risky business as gloss black doesnt seem to like me but i think this is a workable finish:

Next up is slapping on some decals and working on the undercarriage. More coming soon!

I don't know if it's been posted in this thread yet, but I just read that Monogram's co-founder Robert Reder passed away on 20. February, at the age of 93.

May you rest in peace, Robert, and thank you for your wonderful company and everything it gave us!

.....Yeh, I have two of those kits.  I am assuming yours is the 1/32 kit.  One went together so badly, I got another and the first one is for spares.

That would actually be the Revell kit.  A lot has been said about its fit issues over the years.

Monogram only produced P-40s in 1/48 and 1/72 (-B in 1/48, -N and -F (snap-together) in 1/72).  And the later Pro Modeler P-40E is based on the old pre-merger Revell 1/48 P-40E.

I love the finish.  Imagine what it is going to look like with decals and a nice coat of future.  Ewww shiiiiinneeee... lol..    I did one of these when I was like 13.  Fun Kit.

Yes I have that kit in my stash as well and compared side by side they are similar, but not identical. Compared side by side the Esci kit has less deatil in the cockpit, wheelwells, and speed brake wells. In its' favor it has scribed panel lines also has the slatted wings to do an F-86E or early F-86F. I did watch you build yours on the Weekend Madness and was amazed it was done so well in so short a time span. I like the F-86 as wellWink

I was able to begin construction on the A-10 this week, and scratched some details in teh cockpit. But first, here is the obligatory sprue-shot:

The cockpit was better detailed than some pits I have seen in 1/72, but I still added a few details. In this pic, everything not green was added by me. Except for the rounded green things behind the ejection seat. Those were made from scraps of sprue.

Well.  I got quite a bit done today on the kits.  The F14 is basically together except the stabilizers, and ordinance.  It still needs an extensive pre-finish sanding and fit adjustment on various parts.  I wish they could redesign that kit.  The area just inside of the intake scoops are a nightmare to line up correctly, and even harder to keep aligned while the glue sets.  I think I am going to have a nice long sit down with it and some varied pieces of sandpaper, sanding sticks and sanding boards.

The Mosquito actually went together a lot better.  The fuselage is closed up, and the wings are on.  Because of various factors, most notably the thin plastic of parts of the wing and engine nacelles, I decided to build it in flight, with the Bombay doors closed.  Now I just have to get my Daughter to paint the Pilot for me.  The fit on the various parts was much better than the newer F14 kit.  Each will require a bit of re-scribing, but the F14 will be worse by far.  Honestly, I'm half tempted to stick it back in the in progress pile and just do my 1/48 B25J.  I'll see how well I can fix the fit issues first.

Anyways.  Here's some images of the F14.  You can see the fit issues.

Okay, here are some images of the Mosquito in progress.  It is looking a lot better than the F14 at this point.

 

 

 

 

On this one you can see the only really noticeable annoyance I had to deal with.  It's been fixed though.

 

The image below shows some of the minor fit problems I had with the nacelles.  Fixed now.

And the other wing

Here's the fuselage all sealed up except for the cockpit and nose glass.

And the wings attached and drying.  (I love the wing attachment method this kit uses.  Tight interlocking cross spars and an indented wing channel in the main fuselage.  It makes it easy to get perfect wing attachment with just one elastic band.  Too bad that more kits don't do it this way.)

 

Well that's it for now.  I'll put up some more when I get the assembly done.  I will probably be attaching the nacelle ends and props after painting since I hate masking props. lol

Finally got a little work done on the F-102 pit.  Used the Eduard PE set to improve on the original.  It's gonna have to warm up a bit before I can do much more out in my garage workshop tho.

Sorry, Dupes, but no.. That's originally a 1976 Revell kit...  Only 1/32 scale aircraft kits that qualify are:

Phantom Mustang (Revell rebox is ok)

F-51D Mustang

Grumman F3F Flying Barrel

Grumman Gulfhawk

Piper Tri-Pacer

Same thing applies to you, Eatthis... Sorry...

I'm off, so far not bad for a 43 year old kit. There isn't a ton of interior detail but it does have a seat and instrument panel, a step up from some of my recent builds.

The kit claims to be a P-36A, but the wing guns give it away as a C. It was an easy fix to trim off the guns and fill in the shell ejection ports. The fit is pretty good, I needed more putty for the modification work than filling seams. 

 

So that is all for now, hopefully it will be shiny tommorow.

Hate to be a stickler, but after all, it's "Monogram Mafia"...  Just like the real Mafia, which traces your roots back to the "Old Country" in order to be a "made" man, the kit has to be able to be traced back to an original Monogram release in order to be "made"...

So, if you got any Monogram Classics, jump in..

I know there`s a lot of pages associated with this thread now but there was a list posted of "go`s" and "no-go`s"....you could skim through the pages to find it OR maybe someone can remember what page it was on and let us know?

Hey guys,

I am calling the F82G Twin Mustang done. Had great fun with this kit and everything went well. The only thing that im not satisfied about is that the glue i normally use for canopies has attacked the clearparts somewhat... theyre a bit foggy on the edges. Nothing really bad though:

Well.  The F14 is having more issues than I expected and I honestly don't think I can have it presentable before the end date.  As such..  Hans, could you change it to a P-39 Aerocobra.  I found another 1/48 kit.  I just started it, so here's the first WIP images.

 

 

 

 

 

If I finish these two in time, I might stick in a simple Monogram 1/48 A6M WWII Zero Fighter.

This is one busy GB!

 

I continued with the construction, adding detail to the front landing gear bay. Just a bit of plastic strips and wires. 

While matching up the two fuselage sides to check fit, I noticed a bit of a warping towards the tail end of the plane. It should be easily remedied with a bit of clamping.

and once I got sufficient weight in the nose (hopefully!) I buttoned it up and added the wings. Which are of sub-par fit. One side lined up well enough, but the other side will have a rather unfortunate gap at the wing root. Nothing a bit of putty can't fix! The A-10 has a slight bend in the wings, so creative clamping was also needed to achieve the correct angle.

This will tell you if you have a Monogram kit... If the type isn't listed here, the model from Monogram or Revell/Monogram isn't a "GO".  If it's a "grey area" kit, call it out and we'll figure out where to go from there.. (Althought they're listed, the ProModeler F-84G Thunderstreak and Me 410 are NO-GOs) Also, the current Revell catalog contains a number of 1/48 aircraft GO-kits for the build... Check here to make sure before you buy though...

The current Revell and ProModeler "EssBeeDueceSee" kits are NO GOs... They aren't the original kit released by Monogram, they're an entirely new molding... Yours has to have "Dropping Bombs", "working bomb bay doors and dive flaps" and "Retractable Landing Gear" (IIRC all the operating features of the "Beast", lol)...

OK....just for the record...I was done my P-80 last Wednesday but had no time to post pics....SO,  I shoulda been the 1st one done and won the prize of nothing!Big Smile Just kiddin`....but I was done last week. Here`s some pics....

 

....A couple shots with the morning sunlight...

 

I used MM Metalizers...buffing aluminum plate overall with non-buffing magnesium on the control surfaces. Hope you like it. Any comments are welcome.

Started work on my 2nd half kit...Hurricane...will post some WIP`s later today.
