Monogram Mafia Group Build

After a quick visit to the stash, I realize that I have a LOT more Monogram-logoed boxings of stuff than I thought (vs Revell). Shouldn't be too hard to come up with something to build.

Started in on an EA-6A about 3 weeks ago - I'm assuming that since I have a Monogram boxing of the EA-6B that they also produced the A variant? If so, that will be build number one for me...pics pending it's "official" status!

I think that the Q ueer may be a No-Go...  Lemme do some checking, but I think it was a post-merger kit..

Yeah, it was a "Post-merger" (meaning it was first marketed after 1986) kit, first released in 1992 as a 1/48th Revell A-6 kit...   It was later  "re-engineered" (rather poorly, from what I've read) into the Prowler and then released with the Monogram label....

Huh...so they were still putting out boxings of stuff with a Monogram-only logo after the merger? Interesting.

Bummer about the EA-6A, but I'm sure I can wrangle up 2 other kits to build in a timely fashion.

Well,... i started the F82 twin mustang yesterday morning. Not much of a visible interior to speak of so i payed minimal attention to it... Paint...drybrush...a wash and thats that. Wont be visible anyways after completion.

Pilots fuselage and pit:

Did the wing assembly before that:

And then on to closing it all up. This is a dryfit shot, i have glued it since then as well as the filling and sanding bit:

I must say that the overall fit is pretty good, certainly considering it is stamped 1973. And the kit almost falls together sofar. I'm having fun with it

Great start!  When I built that kit, it was molded in black plastic   You're right, not much of an interior, but the 6 .50's make up a great little part..  Lot's of colorful choices for the exterior, too.

Hans von Hammer I am relieved to hear your back on the mend man A friend I sometimes go deep sea fishing with had his hip replaced ( he too is a Vet, Navy Seal ) and gets around on deck better than I do now. We had to help him before the operation, but now we cant keep up with him. I hope yours works out as well for you.

Well I've completely gone off the deep end. I bought a donor Tamiya Sdkfz. 251 for the tracks and roadwheels. The Mono ones were just bad, these dudes look much better and the diameters are pretty close to the originals. No, I am not going to shell out another 15 on Fruil or AFV tracks, I don't think...

Thanks bondo we hawkeyes are an odd lot, just look at Hammer   At any rate, I'm going to try and go OBO with these kits (not that it would make a big difference) given my current  skills.

Construction began today. Since I have been doing lots of reading on the Korean War lately, I decided to add another, the1/48 F-86F which I will be doing as Hal Fischer's "Paper Tiger". I remember building this kit when first released and it was cutting edge state of the art. I am doing it and the F9F together and boy can you see the difference in mold quality and detail between the mid 70s and mid 80s. I will have pics later this evening.

Here's Rommel's Rod.

The basic undercarriage is going to get entirely replace in the back with a Tamiya 1/35 Sdkfz 251 set up. Monogram in back, Tamiya tub in front.

I split the Tamiya tub down the middle and glued up each side onto the yellow plastic.

Covered it with my favorite scratchbuilding material- Evergreen scribed siding. Easy t score and cut, self aligning, has detail. Cobbled up some details out of stuff on the table.

However, I'm actually a Texan... I only live in in Iowa, mostly due to the fact that I'm married to an Iowegian... When she hits her retirement,  we're headed back to the Permian Basin (and that means daily Warbird fly-overs and me hanging out at the CAF main hangar all day..)

 BTW, Stik... I lived in Fischer's former hometown for a spell... Swea City,  Iowa...  He's still got relatives there, and they used to have a sign at the city limits attesting to that fact, back in the 50's and 60's.. Seen the actual sign itself in city hall.. Read, "Welcome to Swea City-Home of Jet  Ace Captain Harold Fischer"...

I haver heard that.  My Sister lives in Sanford, and I have a bunch of cousins in the Casco Bay/Harpswell area (Bailey's and Orr's Islands).  I really miss taking week long vacations on the islands every year.  Going out with my uncle Lobstering on his boat.   Fishing in Mackeral Cove or off the Cribstone Bridge...

Great.  Now I am even more homesick.

As for the pork, ya... I know every hog confinement within 50 miles...  And every time the wind changes... But it's false advertising when someone around here says they're throwing a BBQ and I get there ony to find a hog in the pit... Not a brisket in sight...  Oh well..  I been here almost six years now... Reckon I'll get used to it... Except for when folks ask me if I want a bottle of "pop", lol.. That's still funny to me, lol..

good news, I'm all moved into the new house. Which means I have access to my kits again! You should be seeing a model from me shortly.

Hans Von Hammer you gots tuh teach them corn huskers bout brisket That what I did here in Simi and now when I say I am firein up the smoker they come auh runnin. Its quite a sight to see yuppies runnin fer real BBQ too. Doesn't take long for two whole briskets to disappear either.

you guys ever tried this ??.. take corn on the cob.. fill a bucket with salty water,,, stand the corn in the bucket for about a day, silk up... fire up the grill ( use charcoal only )... lay the corn, husks and all on the grill... turn corn as husks turn dark brown/burnt... when all sides are evenish looking.. remove.. peal husks,, slather in butter, ,salt to taste... enjoy..
