Holy crap, Hammer!  I was looking for Richard Dreyfus and Roy Scheider in that picture.  I wish you a steady and full recovery, so you can get the other one cleaned up, too, you take it easy.

DUDE! I wanna take an oxycontin lookin at that pic! One of the engineers I work with just had his 2nd hip replaced due to Gulf War 1 illness...the VA treated him with a ton of steroids which caused some kind of a necrosis that attacks joints...mainly the hips. My back is trashed and been putting off surgery until I can`t take it anymore...sucks bigtime...Feel better brother!!

Glad you're surviving, Hans!  Wish you Godspeed on your recoveryI know it's not much fun after helping my wife through her knee replacement.

Here's my second build, the F4F Wildcat.  This is an old puppy and after checking the sprues I'm gonna have my hands full bringing it up to something presentable!  I plan to mark it as my hero Joe Foss' #53.  Joe was a truly remarkable man and the CO of my old ANG unit before he became governor of S. Dak.

Hans, I had no idea...I hope it goes really well for you. FWIW, I've known several people who've had hip replacements, and all of them have absolutely thrived after their recovery. I wish you all the best man.

the VA treated him with a ton of steroids which caused some kind of a necrosis that attacks joints...mainly the hips.

That's exactly what happened to me, bi-lateral avascular necrosis, due to the steriod treatment after the crash... My hips and pelvis were busted up, and AMEDD did what it does, keeping me "Combat Effective" until I retired, lol... Eventually, the bone dies due to lack of blood flow...

I just had a permanent profile and did the alternative APFT event of the 4-mile walk/run instead of the two-mile run, and swam instead of running for PT...

Thanks for the well-wishes, men... They're much appreciated...  One hip down, one to go now..

BTW, I plan on jumping again after the next one, Stik...  Just so ya know... Wink'Course  I'll probably hit an effin' road again... I'm also quite adept at finding the only tree (or cactus) within half a mile of any given DZ too...

My goal is make the 82nd Airborne re-enactor jump from a C-47 on the 70th anniversary of D-Day in June of '14, too... Made the 50th in Midland, was deployed for the 60th, so I gotta do this next one... Ain't gonna make it if the VA takes as long as they did with this one though...

Thanks, Ken..

Done that one a couple times, lol.. Got one more in the stash too..

Best bet is to forgo the wingfolds and glue 'em up tight, IMHO.....  I scratchbuilt a 'pit for it as well, and it REALLY needs a rear bulkhead and the firewall to cover up the huge openings in the fuselage, fore & aft...  I just cut some styrene sheet and added some greeblies to each...

If you need it, I can vac-form a canopy for ya if you want to display it open... The kit's canopy is too thick to use, although the windscreen is ok if you just shave down the inside edge...

I knew General Foss too... I got a chance to talk with him during his induction dinner  to the American Combat Airman's Hall of Fame about 15 years ago, and again the next day at the Airshow BBQ...  Helluva guy, lol..

I was doing some research for my Triumph TR-7, and came across these the ads below.

It so happens that decal in the kit match the striping  for the Victory Edition, the kit car has the vinyl roof option and the right wheels.

Smells like a Victory Edition therefore it is a Victory Edition.

I'm soldon the idea, so I'll do it as one of these.

The photos I've found all show the wheels as white, although the body stripe can be either black or white. The kit only supplies black though.

I haven't seen a TR-7 on the road for ages, but happened across one today. I followed, it, drove beside it, in front of it, all the time noting the little things like the colour of the fuel filler cap, the boot lock, the handles, etc I was able t osee enough of the underside to know it is not body colour, most likely black.

Cheers

Tony

I have a Mongram P-61 that I started about 25 years ago, didn't get very far, but recently picked it up again.  As of today I have the cockpit done and I have both booms together and primed.  Would this be eligible?  I also have a bunch of Monogram kits that I bought as a teenager, that I never got around to, but due to my slow build speed, I would probably only have time for a 1/72 P-51B  or P-36 in addition to the P-61.

Glad all's well Boss!!!

My Dad crashed a Huey back back in 76-77, engine failure. Came down in the only open area for miles and hit a truckHmm. No major injuries, he just got a bad back from the impact. I have a stack (100 or so) of 8x10s from the scene. In a couple of the pics, you can see how close they came to a cliff. Also of note, is the camo pattern!

In ref to the bottom left pic, he came in from the right (autorotated) bounced, lost the tail rotor and spun, catching the truck with the tail.

Anyway, we had a power outage here and I couldn't work in the basement, didn't want to take my current project upstairs. So, I took 4 of my T-6s to the dining room table and put some pieces together. The cockpit is gonna be super basic. These will ultimately end up hanging from the cieling at the airport, so not need to get crazy there! I have three more for that!!!!

Yuper, the Wodow's eligible, even if it were the Revell boxing..  Either (or both)of the Braille-Scale kits would work too... Just remember... Ya gotta build TWO (2) eligible kits to get made...

So I'll put ya down for the Widow, and a TBA until you tell me which way you wanna go on the 1/72 kits, Tim...

Ok, here's the progress so far on the Ju 87D:

I made the seat cushions from epoxy putty, and used aluminum tape make the harnesses,  The buckles and harware came from the ProModeler B-24D P/E fret, and the rudder pedals are cut from that same fret.  The lower seat-armor and rados were scratched from Plastruct material, the dials cut from more aluminum tape and a few wires were stuck in here & there, along with a little strip styrene for accent...

I cut the stick's boot off, filled it with a piece of sprue, and re-drilled a hole for it a bit farther back, closer t the seat.  Painted the whole thing Tamiya RLM Gray with some silver chipping...

Yupper, so far so good.. Glad yer Dad was ok...

We lost some guys, the co-pilot and two others in back, I, the Pilot, and the C/E got out.... We lost the T/R (1st BANG!) at about 500 AGL, which wasn't all that bad yet, since the Huey didn't need it above 40 knots indicated, or so I was told, because of the vertical stab.... It was when we set down that stuff went bad, the pilot tried to do a running landing to keep the bird from trying to bite it's own tail and we hit something that flipped us azzhole-over-tea-kettle..

I don't remember anything after the second "BANG!" on the ground, other than seeing it come in through the door...  Or maybe I was going through when it hit me, lol.. Dunno.. I woke up outside the bird...  That was my first helo-crash, and the only one I really got hurt in.. Been in three total, one Huey and two Sh*thooks...  The last two were just really HARD landings...

Nice job on the Stuka 'pit so far Hans.

Just one question, what's this aluminium tape that you mentioned ?

BTW, I've completed priming, fix ups and re-priming on the Triumph. Not exciting enough to warrant a photo yet.

I'm thinking of changing my planned Bugatti 35B to their Chaparral 2D. I believe that Monogram produced it originally in the '60s, my boxing is a reissue from Revell monogram in 1992. The imprint doesn't have a date. Does anyone have any more history than that ?

Cheers

The RoG He 111 is a no-go, Kermit... It's probably a rebox, but not of any Monogram kit I'm aware of..   B-25's ok IF it's a Revell B-25H or J... The F-82, P-39, and MiG 15 are good to go if you want in with them... Or yu can pick somethiong else too, doesn't matter, as long as it's a pre-merger Monogram at one time or another... For now, I'll hold yoour slot and give you a dual TBA...

Thanks, lemme know what you decide on the cars...

Aluminum tape... Exactly what it is... It's aluminum foil duct tape, and used on furnace ducts, dryer vents, all that kinda stuff where the heat's high enough to melt regualr duct tape.

Comes on a roll about 2 inches wide, adhesive-backed, 10 to 20- foot rolls.  I get mine at Ace Hardware, runs about 6 bucks... It's adhesive is too thick for foiling 1/48 aircraft, but I think 1/24th cars would benefit from it's use in place of chrome...  I use it for all kinds of stuff, especially belts and harnesses...

Here's a great source for copper tapehttp://www.anythinginstainedglass.com/metals/foil.html

It kicks ass for anyone building a sailing ship. One roll does a BIG model.

Awrite here's the first Mono out of the pen.

Rommel's Rod. 1/24 Mercedes Benz halftrack with skeleton crew. Nice model with the chrome wheel cover and good looking straighteight. But that M2 terrain roller up front has to go.

So I grabbed a Donorwagengetpartz  the Hasegawa 1/24 Kubelvolkswagen. Gonna swipe some of the jerry cans, engineer tools and that MG plus top struts etc. to make the Rod look a little more up to Feldmarschall snuff.

Oh, and Hans up there behind the go-pedal gets a pith helmet rather than that stalhelm. He was looking a little, withered by the heat.

Not me, I already have like 3 of those I think.  The prices on eBay have been getting really ridiculous.  I will never pay $40 or more for a Revell 1/48 kit..  There are more and more nimrods trying to charge $100 or more for those1/32 Revell F4-U1 kits, open box yet...  You can't get much of anything decent for under $20 any more.

The key detail regarding the He-111 is the scale.  Monogram never did an He-111 in 1/72 scale.  I don't think the pre-merger Revell did, either.  The 1/48 He-111 is post-merger, as far as I know.

I can check Graham, regarding the B-25's on both sides of the family tree.  I built Revell's 1/48 Doolittle Raider, and the Monogram B-25H, which were in the respective catalogs, pre-merger, but I'm not sure when the -J was first issued.  The Snap-tite kit also preceded the merger.

I'd like to join in on this build. My favorite kits are Monogram,,and dare I say.....Airfix!!

I will do the old blue box version of the 1/72 scale P-51B. Checked Graham's Monogram book and it is an original.

Was going to do Rommel's Rod,, looking for an excuse to start that anyway,,but see one already here. If 2 Rommels are OK, I'll add that one if not I'll TBA and grab another Mono from the stash.

Great idea by the way Hans!!

Hans, Baron,

Just found out that the 1/72 Heinkel is a Hasegawa rebox... so you guys were right about that. I am absolutely sure though that the RoG B25(J) is ex monogram. Look for kit number 04520. The boxart shows a desert scheme but there are options for OD pacific theater B25's as well.

After some thinking about it i would like to join in with the F82G and the Mig 15. Is that ok Hans?
