I have been working on preliminary work on the Zero, I'll post pictures later this week. she'll have a CMK cockpit, to give her something that Monogram didn't give her. Not much else in aftermarket details. She'll be a test for me on the salt method for simulating peeling paint. I'll experiment with the cowl first, then move on to the body. I have a illustration of an A6M5 flown by an ace with peeling paint, Which I thought may be a good idea for this old kit. This is the "white box: edition and the main decals they give are for a A6M3 while the kit with the engine exhausts is a A6M5b at best guess. When I build a kit, I like to see an illustration of the same bird I am making.

Hey All,

Started my F-80 the other day and here is my progress so far. The fit is what you would expect...pretty bad gaps at the wing roots but installing the engine in the opening helps close the gap some. The toothpick shims bring the top of the wing even with the  fuselage.

Here`s the front of the engine which helps with the wingroot gap....

...some other parts and tanks that were primed with semi-gloss black and then sprayed with MM Aluminum Plate buffing metalizer and buffed up to a shine....

 

That`s it for now...got some work ahead of me with those gaps but that`s part of the fun! Thanks for looking.

Good work Len, that should be fun with a natural metal finish.

Well Monogram had some great moments, but I don't think their Triumph TR-7 was one of them. It is very, very simplified, not at all like the other Monogram cars I've built. However, I'm not complaining at all, at least they did it, and it's a nice challenge.

I've detached all of the parts, removed mold lines, flash, and visible ejector pin marks. There is still some clean up to go, but I'm basically ready to get going with it. I've also fixed some fit issues with the front and rear bumpers. The chrome parts were the worst I've seen, heaps of flash, and a really grainy, pebbly finish to the chrome, most un Monogram like. I've stripped it too.

My next job is to do some research into original colors and trim options, then plan the  car I want to build. There are some obvious areas for improvement, but given the simplified nature of this kit, I'll have to see how far my motivation takes me.

I didn't know anyone made a TR7 kit, when I was a kid that was one my favorite cars. I still think they look fun, but like most small British sportscars I understand they are a total nightmare to own.

Well, I can scrap the Dornier 335 kit.  After a lot of work, the kit has disintegrated.  I was spot tacking it with some Great Planes Pro CA medium, jut to get the fuselage halves lined up correctly, then I had a section slip a bit before it dried so I used some Great Planes Debonder on it.  Just a drop..  The plastic had some kind of reaction and turned into something more akin to saltine crackers than plastic.  A HUGE chunk of fuselage is now toast and the kit is in the spare parts bin, so I am now trying to figure out what to replace it with.  I don't have a lot of old Monogram kits anymore so I will have to find something on eBay.  Have you ever fealt like just banging your head against a wall...?

I would like to add the 1/24 1926 Mack Truck log carrier. I had just won it on evilBay and got it this week. I looks like a fairly easy build. Whit box edition.

It`s a decent kit but has a few fit issues and a ton of ejector pin marks. Still trying to decide if I`m going to do a dio and leave the tail off or not.If I can get the tail on without it looking too bad I`d rather go that route for display space reasons. I`m not a big jet fan either but have a soft spot for the "oldies". Got this kit for 8 bucks at AC Moore craft store with their 50% off coupon so if I screw it up it won`t hurt so bad..lol

Okay.  I didn't really want to do this kit at the moment but it's the only eligible one I have from old Monogram.  I'll be doing the MonoGram 1/48 F-14A Tomcat model instead of the now defunct Dornier Arrow kit.  I checked the copyright info inside the fuselage and it's Monogram Models Inc.  I'll send up some images once I have something to show.

As The Hangman and The Harpy found out ,all too late...   In fact, the only person whoever successfully brought a Von Hammer down, permanently, was Batman, when he downed my grandson, Franz... Actually, it wasn't a fair fight, since the Batplane was a bit more sophisticated and much better-armed than the  Dr 1 replica my grandson was flying..... 

Ok, I'm feeling a bit better this AM, so I'm doing a bit of this & that on the Ju 87, tricking out the cockpit detail.  I've add a number of things already, just to "busy it up"..

Total hip replacement on the right side... I need to go in for re-surfacing on the left sometime in the furure, but not before this one heals and I'm walking again, which, at VA speeds, means around two years... Hopefully, I'll not need to have it upgraded to a replcement in that time...

Helicopter crash back in 87 (went down in Ft Hood, hard, lost some guys on-board, all around a bad scene) caused all the problems...

Ouch.  I vaguely remember hearing about a crash at Ft. Hood.  All of my memory from back then is pretty vague...  I have issues with my knees.  One too many jumps I guess...  I feel your pain man...  Get better soon.
