Hans,

Watering can you say?... You got to admire those germans for thinking up cool and effective names and abbreviations for their stuff.

Yeah, "Watering Can".. The official name, "Waffenbehalter" simply means "Weapons Container"..

"Watering Can" belies it's more sinister purpose...

There is a list on page 4, but I think it is just 1/48 kits and is not exhaustive (B-26, A-26, P-61 stand out)

/forums/t/135482.aspx?PageIndex=4

 ....

SB2C, -NO GO

...

Hey, Hammer, that one'll need an asterisk.  The old original SB2C kit should definitely be a go, that's Monogram all the way, but the later Pro Modeler kit (such as Chuck W built in that excellent build blog a couple of years ago) should not.

For 1/72, may I add the BUFF (anyone have the old boxing with the engine sounds?) and the giant B-36, if anyone has room to display it Smile

Sound off if I screw the pooch on any though..

 A-4 Blue Angels

AC-47 (unless you build it into the WW2 version. The parts are in that kit to do so.. Main thing is the props, and it has the old props in the box.

The Current issue A-4 Blue Angels is a rebox of their pre merger A-4E/F kit. It is not to be confused with the Pro Modeler A-4 Blue Angels which was a rebox of a Hasegawa A-4.

I am curious about the AC-47- it basicly the same kit as the original C-47 except for another sprue added for more parts/options as they did with the current issue B-17/B-24/B-29. No real change to the basic kit itself, just more finishing choice.

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Sweet! Surprise I scored a long-oop sheet of Albatros decals for the A-37 Dragonfly yesterday (for a VERY reasonable price)...may have to find a way to get one of them into this GB rather than the F-5. No official change yet, I'll let you know Hans.

Ju 87D now at 90%:

A couple quick passes with the razor saw solved the problem of the two MG81s barrels looking like one piece.. I'll straighten that errant out after the rear canopy section is in place...

The racks for the '81s drum mags was taken from some old armr kit...

Gotta do some touch-up on the bottom here & there, but not much, as this bird will sit secured forever on a diorama... That's why I don't get too hung up on fixing stuff that won't be seen by judges...

Weathering has been started, still need quite a bit of detail painting, especially the exhaust stackes, then it's on to shading some panels, and geberally distreeing the over-white camo, although not too much...

I want this Stuka at the start of the winter of '42/43... At this time, the Luftwaffe was still moving forward, base to base across the Steppes,  towards the Wehrmacht's main target.. And it's ultimate downfall... Stalingrad.. *DAH-duh-DAHHH---Dah-dah-dah!* (That was "Ominous Music"...) ...

The wings have been attached! Due to fit issues, the resulting sanding of the wing roots and fuselage removed much of the raised detail....so I did a complete re-scribe of the plane!

I have the engine-pod assembly drying right now, but dang. The engine pods were a really fiddly assembly. I had to join three pieces with only butt-joins in a circle with no bracing. It kept falling apart on me and getting knocked out of alignment....and have weird gaps that will require filling. I hope it doesn't break while I am sanding it. On a good note, it seems it will fit the fuselage pretty well!

Here is where she sits now after the re-scrible:

Well.  I found sort of a happy bonus last night.  I was looking for my parts kit for my P39, and I found an old P-39 Kit I had started and lost about 2 years back.  It was at about the same stage as my other kit so I am now doing them concurrently.  So I will have 2 P-39 AiroCobras when I am done.  One will be decked out in USAAC markings and the other in Red Air Force markings.  Does anyone happen to know what basic color the uniform of one of the Russian pilots of the era  would be?  I am guessing dark brown or tan, but I am not sure.  The American Pilot will be the normal OD.  The only thing missing from the second kit is the ammo tub on top of and between the twin high machine guns in the nose.  If I can't find it, no big deal since it won't be visible with the nose all sealed up anyways.  Here are a couple of images of progress so far.  Keep in mind that the digital camera I am using has a habit of exxagerating any minor flaws.  It looks a lot better in person than in the images.

Well that's it for tonight.  If I am lucky, I can get the pilots done and the last of the touch up out of the way.  I hope to be sealing up the fuselages tomorrow.  The wings will probably go together tonight.  Tomorrow I will be out most of the day house hunting, but the weekend is supposed to be warmer so I may be able to get the airbrush out and get some done with it.

Welcome aboard, Satch.. Those kits are perfect...

Meant to say something earlier about the Revell/ProModeler kit vs the original Monogram SB2C, so I put in the NO GO post a couple pages back...

Perfect example of the SB2C kit that's a "GO" and also post-70s "White-box" era..

Thanks,

I ammended that oversight on the last page, Baron.. Thanks.. I'd forgoten about differentiating the two kits, I was only thinking of the Revell release in the current catalog... Satch has climbed aboard with that very kit..

So you want the B-FiftyTwice, and the Aluminum Overcast?

The USAAF flightsuits were either tan (summer) or green (temperate), not OD.. A good match, IMNSHO, is ModelMaster FS 34086, Green Drab, or Tamiya XF-51 Khaki Drab, Sparrow...

USAAF (on the left) USN/USMC Summer flightsuits. Goggles & helmets are "Mix & match" with the googles on the right being the M1944, so no early-war pilots had that style. Mae Wests are reversed as well... Army pilot's wearing a Navy version, Squid's got the Doggie's... Paint these guys with Green or Khaki Drab suits and "dark brown leather" helmets, and you got temperate flight gear...

Ivan's flightsuits were typically dark blue, very similat to the tanker's coveralls in both cut and color... Testor's Non-Specular Sea Blue FS# 35042, Dark Sea Blue FS# 15042, and Insignia Ble FS#35044 all will work for the flight suit.

The fligh jackets aren't an issue with the P-39 figure, but it was a mid-thigh-length, waist-belted affair, very dark brown or black in color, and fleece-lined for the Winter version, and silk-lined for the Summer version, which was more for fire-protection than warmth..(Actually, all leather flight-jackets were primarily for fire-protection, plus they're wind-proof...) I can't scan my pictures of them right now..  Don't have a scanner, lol.. I could take a picture of a picture with my camera, but it'll suck, and since he ain't wearing one, I ain't gonna try,lol..  Ivan's helmet would be very dark brown leather, about the shade of Testor's Rubber, #1183..

Yeah, Sorry about the brain-cramp I gave ya, Satch.. I was hip deep in one of my own, lol...  I know the OR Monogram kit well, and shoulda got it right from the git-go insteada NO GO, lol.. I got about 10 of the SB2Cs "behind" me since 1970 or so...  I built a large (and not very good) 1/48th "flight deck diorama" back then, using an old kitchen table for the deck..  Had a half-dozen SBDs, five oo six SB2Cs, and an even split in Corsairs and Hellcats at 5 each...  My parents had a HUGE basement at about 1700 sq ft of useable floor space  (which I took over at age 14), and I built EVERYTHING big back then, lol..

Man, I miss that house... Sister got it in the will though... Sold it too.. Shoulda bought her out when I had the means... But I was still on active duty, nine years from retirement, and hated the town...

No moustache... It was a famous ya know.. My cookie-duster was the bane of First Sergeants and Command Sergeants Major on three continents, lol... Especially during the "transition period" from a mostly Shake & Bake (Draftee) NCO Corps to an All-Volunteer one...   AR 670-1 was kinda loosely enforced for about 8 years...

I saw a Monogram M-48 last week, has Lovebug painted on the turret. I'm pretty sure I built that one around the 4th or 5th grade. Anyone know much about the kit?

I was thinking I might pick it up if it is halfway decent, it was certainly cheap enough ($12 or so).
