Here are the AH-1G Pics. 1/72 scale. Fun little build. It was right out of the box!

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0][View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0][View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0]

I painted the white and yellow bands on the main rotor. I also painedd the tail rotor bands. The decals  were just a little old and I wanted to mess with them as little as possible.

I finally got my meatball and tail code decals from my vendor, so I am wrapping up the Zero, goal is to finish it this weekend.  Then I can focus all effort on the A-24.

Hi everyone, here's an update of what I've been up to. The Tomcat is ready for painting, haven't had a chance to fire up the airbrush. I also dug up a couple of partial builds and will finish them up. the R/M P-51 won't count, but put it up anyways. The Airacobra was about 1/4 done before a serious night of bench time. The fit of both kits were excellent, the stang barely needed putty. I'll post individual pics soon.

All the builds are very impressive. Just goes to show you don't have to spend $40.00 to have a good looking model.

Thanks, guys...the Super Sabre is Ziel!!!  I added the ejector seat and I am quite pleased.  A buddy of mine with an affinity for the Hun wants to hire me to do one for him...gosh, my first order!!!!  He wants me to do a Mono just like this build, also with NMF.

Hutch: What a beautiful bird!!!Bow Down

Hammer: I brought in a Pinch Hitter for my build!!! The Phantom is giving me some serious issue (some warping I hadn't noticed). I brought in my Monogram AH-1G. I will post pics tonight. I think I just needed a break from jets for a bit and this provided it. Plus I have been wanting to get to it for a while!!!Big Smile

This was a very fun build!!!! Brought back great memories as Monogram was my primary kit manufacturer when I began the hobby!

Thanks for the reply, Vetteman.  (Yup, I believe the boss will declare you are a "made man".)  I'd been thinking of streaking something in a light color on the blue Wildcat to show some fading on the mid panels, so your comments kinda reinforce that idea.

Thanks, Ken

You probably call your one shirt a "shoit'.

Firstly, it's 1/32 and I need decals, wuddaboutit?

That Tamiya thing musta brung out the aftermarket.

Also, I need paper drop tanks.

Here's the things what make it woik.

And the first coat on the base.

Bud Tordorff and his airplane.

Thank you all for your comments and kind words, really makes one want to do even better on the next build.Does this mean I am finally a made man ??

Kbuzz01 Nice work on the Wildcat YesYes If I may, I filled my airbrush cup ( 1oz cup) about half full of distilled water and added Tamiya white a couple of drops at a time until it looked cloudy like skim milk. Then to that I added a drop or 2 of dish washing liquid so it wouldn't form droplets when I sprayed it. Then I misted the top of the fuse evenly and did a  random spray pattern on the wings in the direction of airflow. I guess you could say I streaked the wings unevenly. This method took 5 or 6 mistings before I was happy with it, the idea was to mist lightly let it dry for 1/2 hour to see what it did then mist it again.  Heres a picture of what I ended up with after misting it.

Hope this helps

Hutchdh oh I am liking your Sabre man !! Those markings really pop and the burned metal looks fantastic. Looking to see the finished pictures now Eats

Thanks, guys.  That's a beautiful F-100, Hutch!  I know there are many articles on weathering out there, but given the blue shade and raised panel lines, does anyone have any specific advice on how I might try to weather the Wildcat?

Thanks, Ken

Ken-the Wildcat is progressing nicely.

Hutch-very nice NMF on the F-100...the heat effect on the tail is outstanding.  I must add one of those to my stash.

Ken, nice progress....below is an update to my F-100.  Almost done.  I just have some touch ups to do and finish the ejection seat.  I experimented a lot on this kit and am pleased with the result, although not a pristine finish.  This will look good hanging from my ceiling.

Hutch, Vette, Bob - Beautiful work, guys!!  YesYesYes  I'm still here, reluctant to put up my humble Wildcat pics but guess I'll do it anyway.  Still have a fair amount of work to do.  Hope to figure out some weathering - I'm new with that.

Here's the belly - not sure if I'll do the under-cockpit windows yet.

Love the pictures, Vetteman!  Excellent side by side shots with the Revell and other Monogram kit. All winners!!  Still working on my NMF Detroit Miss.....didn't realize how painful a NMF could be until I tried it!!!! You and the other guys make it look easy!

Keep up the great work; hope to join you in 'la familia' soon!!Yes

Thanks Tal Afar Dave

Bobbaily oh I didnt know your 51 was gonna spot a NMF. Looking very good man YesYes Keep the pics coming Eats.

Passion Wagon II is finished ! Bout time huh Stick out tongue

Passion Wagon I was a P-51B flown by Lt Arval Roberson, after 3 kills he apparently had a landing accident and was assigned a P-51D also called Passion Wagon in which he became an ace with a total of 6 kills to his credit. After Lt. Roberson completed his tour, Passion Wagon was assigned to Capt. Charles Weaver. Capt Weaver became an ace in Passion Wagon, he changed the nose art but kept the name of Passion Wagon, although the name on the nose was dropped. After his tour was finished Passion Wagon went to the 357th from the 362nd and the name was changed to Gypsy. I am still looking for pictures of Gypsy.

Anyway I hope my build will be acceptable and allow me to be taken into the family so I can proudly wear the badge of " The Monogram Mafia "

Now for a little fun

Here's a B/W picture of the P-51B and P-51D Passion Wagon. The B is Revell's newly tooled version, sorry guys but thought they look kinda cool together.

Ok I know, I know, I hope this next one will make it up to ya. Two Monogram kits.

Angel's Playmate and Passion Wagon.

Thanks Vetteman.

Fuselage is together, wings attached, primed & painted.  Fit was very good....however, I didn't do a very good job on the minimal filing & sanding that I had to do....and the silver makes it look worse.  The O.D cowl panel is a bit off but the 357th 'checkerboard' at the front of the engine cowling should hide my mistake. With a little time, patience & skill (I'm short on all of these) this kit can be a winner.

Anyway, here's the current status:

Future should go on tomorrow, decals on Saturday, more Future on Sunday and then the weathering begins.

Hey Vetteman, "Passion Wagon" looks great!!  Can't wait to see it all finished up.

The F100 is also looking the part of a century fighter; love the variation on the different panels using the different paints. The heated exhaust area is also very convincing.....

Everyone's work is truly inspirational; I always look forward to checking the group's board; always something cool happening.

Bobbaily nice start on the 51 man ! I really like your IP YesYes

Hutchdh I am gonna have to remember the smoke trick, it did bring out the panel lines very well

Ok so we are on page 2 now ??? That aint no good at all, and just wont do, so a WIP picture to get us back where this group should be Stick out tongue

I have the decals on and have done the first round of weathering, faded those bright decals. Looks much better now I think, anyway I will clear it again this evening and start the final weathering maybe tomorrow morning.

I can only hope Don Hammer will approve of my humble contribution to the family.

Thanks for the nice comments.  I applied the Zinc Chromate Green to the wheel wells.  As you can see, the paint lifted in some spots on the belly when I removed the masking.  My fault in that I painted the Alclad straight over the Krylon and I don't think it liked it.

I applied some Tamiya Smoke to accentuate the panel lines, last night.  A few minutes ago, I slapped on some Future in preps for the decals.

Also,  my Trump F-100C is coming along nicely as well.

Nice work Randy & Hutch.  Love the 'heat effect' on your plane Hutch.  And I'm looking forward to seeing more progress on your P-51 Randy-I still haven't decided on an O.D. or Silver finish for my P-51....speaking of which, here are some progress pics-got the interior together last night....hope to have the fuselage together, wings on and primed by the end of the day....depending on household 'to-dos)....

A little bit of wire run thru the cockpit and on the radio/battery would add, but I didn't want to take the time....

Cheers

Gotta get moving on this build as I am only a half made man Surprise I have some WIP pictures to share with ya all. First off I applied a silver base coat and added some rubber cement for paint chipping. Then I preshaded with Tamiya OD, which as some my know is quite dark. I also shaded leading edges and low on the fuse where the paint wouldn't fade much.

http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww122/randysmodels/Arval%20Roberson%20P-51B/Arval%20Roberson%20P-51D/12RevellP-51D.jpg

Then I mixed flat white with the OD for a medium dark and painted the panel centers, well mostly the centers anyways.

http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww122/randysmodels/Arval%20Roberson%20P-51B/Arval%20Roberson%20P-51D/13RevellP-51D.jpg

Then I added more white for a very faded OD and and thinned it 80% distilled water 20% paint then fogged it on to bring things together. Here's where it is at now.

http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww122/randysmodels/Arval%20Roberson%20P-51B/Arval%20Roberson%20P-51D/14RevellP-51D.jpg

http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww122/randysmodels/Arval%20Roberson%20P-51B/Arval%20Roberson%20P-51D/15RevellP-51D.jpg

I will rub the rubber cement off today and play with it bit before clear coating it for decals and further weathering.
