Hmm

the Baron

 tonka:

All looking good guys. JS the Typhoon looks great> the subtle weathering is a nice touch.

OK, I did some work last few days:

This is the 1/72 P-51B. The pilot actually looks better to my eyes than the cameras! well at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/http://i856.photobucket.com/albums/ab126/tonka45/groupbuild002-1.jpg:550:0]

Looks good--is that really the 1/72 kit?  Big Smile  I just dropped the pilot into his office on the 1/48 kit yesterday morning, lurching forward on that build (it was supposed to be finished by the first Friday of December Embarrassed )

Is he cast separately from the seat, or cast in one piece?  In 1/48, that pilot mans the P-51B/C and the P-47 kits, and it's a nice little figure, but he doesn't fit the seats.  I've found that I have to file a little off his back and his backside to get him seated a little more realistically in the seats.

Best regards,

Brad

Brad, yes its 1/72. He is a separate piece and really well molded even with a separate arm. He fit perfect in seat and I test fit the canopy and it was fine. The face looks much better without aid of camera Hmm. I just painted base colors and then a light wash and some light drybrushing. I find in that scale it works good and may not be contest quality..obviously..but looks good in the cabinet. Good luck with the 1/48 kit!

Hi All,

Well, here`s kit # 2...Hawker Hurricane Mk IV. Calling it complete...don`t want to push my luck tweaking `cause I`ll wind up screwing something up.

OOB build...scratch built wheel wells, brass tube wing mounted gun barrels, drilled out exhaust manifolds (that was fun) and 34 guage wire for the antenae. All comments are welcome.

Thanks for looking,

Len

Len, The Hurricane looks great. I like the way the brass 'guns' are integrated into the wing.

Congrats on the finished build!

I tried tonight to the same to my 1/72 Mustang,, but in the end all I did was create bigger holes.. oh well,,,I'll fix it this weekend.

Don von Hammer,

I come to you at this time asking your permission to become a member of the familia. My 2 kits are F-4C Phantom II (current repop) and the Me-262 (late 70's white box). Both 1/48.

Sorry about the late reply... I was without cable and internet for a couple days due to a garbage truck tearing the box of the side of the building..

Gotcha covered, and welcome aboard...

Thanks Baron, I just used a little chrome silver dry brush to "scuff" the flaps.  I'm still having panel hi-lighting and weathering issues but learning a little each time on what works... and not.

This was originally posted  in the aircraft section, but it was suggested that I move it here.  Not knowing how to move a thread/post, I decided to just re-type it.

This is my first model for the Monogram Mafia GB.  It is the Monogram 1/48 Typhoon 1B, built OOB.  This is the first time I've ever taken part in a group build, so be kind.Smile

Did I miss your sign-up? Sorry... What's the other kit gonna be?

I never "officially" signed up until I posted the pics of the Typhoon.  So no, you didn't miss it.  Like I said, this is the first one of these I've ever taken part in and didn't know you were supposed to sign up or register someplace.

As for my 2nd entry, I think I've finally settled on the 1/48 scale F-100D Super Saber.  I know somone else has already posted pics of his build of this same a/c.  Are duplications (two people doing the same kit)allowed?  If not, I have several other ones I can substitute in the Super Saber"s place.

Thanks!

Hi folks.  Sorry I haven't been on very much this week.  I have been very ill and sitting at the PC is not fun.  I have started my Panther and am also working on the airacobra and F14.  It shouldn't take long to get at least 2 of them done, providing I can sit long enough.  BTW, does anyone have a spare front landing gear torsion spring for the Monogram 1/48 F9F Panther?  Mine's gone missing.

Thanks.  I have to take medications for numerous issues, and some of them tend to make mincemeat out of my immune system, so when I even get a cold, it can get nasty.  This time it was some bug my Daughter brought home from school..

My Daughter is in Jr. High, and brings stuff home on a regular basis.  My Wife and my Daughter never seem to get more than a light sniffle occasionally, but I tend to get a really bad infection.  They get a sniffle, I get 102.5 temps, chills, and all of the other annoying flu like symptoms.  Last week wasn't much fun, but it's getting a little better now.  I think it sholld be gone in a couple more days.

Don Hammer I come here today with a small humble request. If you will allow me this request I will start my second build and meet my obligations to family tradition with 2 builds for the group.

I humbly request a build change, I will explain. If you remember I built Lt. Arval Robersons P-51B in the "Before They Were Aces Group Build. I would at this time request that you allow me to build his P-51D Passion Wagon that he did become an ace in. It is also the same aircraft Cpt. Charles Weaver became an ace in after Lt Roberson finished his tour. The kit will be the same Revel/Monogram 1/48 P-51D that I signed up as the Air Racer Risky Business.

Don Hammer I await your answer and hope you allow me this small request, and thank you for allowing me to speak with you on this matter.

wow, I go away for a week and you guys go crazy with the updates!  LOL    I'm back in my dorm room now, and should be finishing up the decaling on the A-10. The hog mouth gave me a bit of grief settling down over the compound curve of the nose, but nothing too difficult.

Alrightee-oh cool cats and far out chicks. A little action down at the chop shop. The 251 rear end finally came in from Germany with a bunch of parts. Did you know "Hanomag" is German for "Monogram"? (spelled backwards).

Chopped and channeled that chassis and brought 'er down.

Lower that mill, Ludwig.

Don Hammer, since I took care of dat 'ting for yeh, and cut sprue on the Goshawk, let me kiss your ring.

and here are the finished decals. For a kit that has been in a box for who knows how long, the decals adhered well. Almost too well in some areas...they stuck before I could get them into final position. SO excuse some of the slightly crooked markings!!

Now onto the final fiddly bits and the dull coat!

Anything involving the Monogram Mafia should be slightly crooked! Wink I like those markings, the little splash of white really catches the eye.

Eatthis man where do you find the time ? Nice starts on all of em man.

Bondoman Rommels Rod is lookin good, some nice chassis work you have done there.

CallSignOwl to my eye your decals look fine, well done young lady.

Got some trimming and cutting an a bit of gluing done on my second build for the group, nothing worth posting official start pictures of yet. And I am still waiting for Don Hammer to approve my build change so I know what colors to paint the pit Stick out tongue This one I am building OOB other than seatbelts and a bit of wire added to the gear bays, oh oh and the decal set for Passion Wagon. I do plan to drop the flaps and pose control surfaces too. And, and, Cowboy I hope it looks good when finished. Well maybe it isnt OOB but the only AM will be the decals anyways.
