Awesome Sparrow, an F14, with a need for speed.  Does it come with "Maverick" & "Goose"? Big Smile

Well here's some WIP images of the F14.   Pardon the low quality of the images, but my camera is acting kind of flaky.

More as it progresses.  I'll be doing more work on the Mosquito later on.

I have had those Korean War jets on my mind lately so I am running with it...Smile But I do love a good P-40 too... no plane ever looked better with a shark mouth than an early model P-40

Reasoned, if your P-40 is gonna be one flying out of Burma, no leather flight jacket is needed.Cool

I got the base coat interior colors down on the Saber and Panther... straight Interior Green on the F9F

Stik she's coming along good, glad to see you're doing a jet, better you than me.  And yes, my P40 is going to be a Chinese "Flying Tiger", let's assume a summer flight at Angels 2. Wink

Yeh, I have two of those kits.  I am assuming yours is the 1/32 kit.  One went together so badly, I got another and the first one is for spares.

Nope, mine's a 1/48 and she's proving challenging.  Funny how 35 years ago I'd think nothing of off-set seams and little gaps but now that I'm trying my hand and detail builds... Huh?

Are you sure about the colors of the uniform on this one?  I thought they wore a dark brown or black leather flying jacket.

No, I'm not sure but it says "tan" in the instructions.  I looked up what a "Flying Tiger" might have worn and since they were not issued US uniforms they flew in Chinese issued "khakis" I figure (since they didn't put a jacket on him) he's going to fly in his summer weight Chinese best.  See, they were ahead of the curve 70 years ago, already wearing Chinese made clothing! Big Smile  BTW, man this fuselage goes together rough!! Indifferent

Looking really good there.  I got a chance to start on my Mosquito last night, but I am having a tough time trying to decide if I want the doors open or closed and the gear up or down.  There are some molding issues around the edge of one of the Bombay doors, so I might just do an in flight build.

Things got busy here around the house last nite, so no pics taken until now.

I actually purchased both of these as consignment kits, and on the F9F some painting had been done (interior green on a few spots, and the instrument panel, it looks like the previous owner had dabbled with folding the wings... there are some cut up parts... I will save those and maybe use them on my F9F-5P... anyways some bare plastic pics, if my IP turns out better than the one that the previous owner did, I will use mine.. nice to have a choice Wink

F-86 wings, drop tanks, and cockpit...

and F9F cockpit and nose wheelwell

you guys ever tried this ??.. take corn on the cob.. fill a bucket with salty water,,, stand the corn in the bucket for about a day, silk up... fire up the grill ( use charcoal only )... lay the corn, husks and all on the grill... turn corn as husks turn dark brown/burnt... when all sides are evenish looking.. remove.. peal husks,, slather in butter, ,salt to taste... enjoy..Yes

Yes, when I have a smoker item cooking, my wife will prep the corn and smoke it in that maner... good stuffSmile BurgerEats I can run a pretty mean grill, if I do say so myself... have one of those that looks like a 55 gallon drum on it side cut in half with a smaller drum smoke box on one end and a vent stack on the other...Stick out tongue None of that wussy gas stuff either... true flame that must be lovingly tended to. I just have a portable gas grill for things like tailgate parties and such... But getting back to the home grill... Last month we had some nice weather on V-Day and the wife picked up some sirloins and lobster tails for me to grill...oh yeah...Toast Not bad for mid winter... no weather for BBQ today though...got some building/painting to do...

Bondo, I have had not had any issues using mesquite on my set up. just gotta mix it in to get that flavoring and heat right... it does tend to burn hotter I think...

Hans, I do love it when an area celebrates their heroes- real heroes who risked their lives... I kinda get a chuckle out of Capt Fischer's particular mount "Paper Tiger" named as swipe at Mao calling the U.S. that. And he ends up getting shot down in that bird a bit too far in to China, by what current research shows was most likely a Russian pilot. A bit of Irony there.

I guess I have no dog in this race, being a native Californian. Anything called BBQ around here is a transplant from somewhere else. Where I live it all came out with the shipyard workers in WW2, who are/ were mostly from the mid-Atlantic states so it's all about pork ribs. Even pulled pork is a "specialty'. I never much liked the stuff until I buddied up with Airman Jim, who's from Memphis.

The native population were a bunch of vegetarian foragers. They pretty much liked to do what we do- sit, crack nuts and stare at the ocean.

The Spaniards liked their cow, and roasted. A very fine meal is Santa Maria tri-tip; about 3" thick and grilled over oak coals. You can keep your mesquite, mister. Very hard to cook with the stuff.

Not only are beans an additive to Chili, but so is meat. The basics are a hot pepper sauce, with spices, bound with some kind of fat. I usually start mine with a half pound of the cheapest bacon I can find, all chopped up. Onions, garlic, oil, and chili powder, plus other spices. Maybe meat, cubed up sirloin one of those $ 3.99 "bbq" specials at the grocery that neither are bbq nor grill very well. Beans, no. Temper the whole thing with corn meal to make it thick and gooey.

My friend Garth lives in New Mexico and brings up every kind of chili, both dried and fresh, that you could imagine.

I guess I'll paint the Rod Gelb Braun. I'm also trying to figger out how to dress up the front end- it came with this US M2 halftrack type terrain roller that the F.Marschall did NOT approve of. Maybe a chrome bumper, except my spare parts bin doesn't have any car stuff.

As for the pork, ya... I know every hog confinement within 50 miles...  And every time the wind changes... But it's false advertising when someone around here says they're throwing a BBQ and I get there ony to find a hog in the pit... Not a brisket in sight...  Oh well..  I been here almost six years now... Reckon I'll get used to it... Except for when folks ask me if I want a bottle of "pop", lol.. I haver heard that.  My Sister lives in Sanford, and I have a bunch of cousins in the Casco Bay/Harpswell area (Bailey's and Orr's Islands).  I really miss taking week long vacations on the islands every year.  Going out with my uncle Lobstering on his boat.   Fishing in Mackeral Cove or off the Cribstone Bridge...

Great.  Now I am even more homesick.
