Back home.. All's well.. I just had a bit of a reaction to some of the meds...  Doc changed a couple dosages and there's no infection, the seepage was normal... She pulled the staples out , even...

Good luck again Hans, I figure you're at the doctors right about now.

Here are some progress shots of the Triumph TR-7.

The body has been primed then sprayed yellow, The next step is decals then clear and polish. I'll paint the vinyl roof, and other details after that.

The front bumper and rear bumper and panel have been completed. The fog ? lights hanging down below the front bumper were solid plastic, so it's had multiple coats of PVA adhesive over a silver base to build up a lens of sorts. The turn indicators on the front bumper are also solid plastic, painted to simulate a lens. The ones on the rear bumper were actually clear plastic, my preferred option.

The remainder of the kit has been primed and the base colors painted. Detail painting to follow.

Once you finish with the clean up, and get some paint down, this kit really begins to shine through.  I like it a lot more now than when I started.

This one seems to have jumped the priority queue over several other models I've got on the go, which often happens when I take on a car model.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Now for the (sorta) bad news..

Having some hip-trouble, more pain than I should be having after 10 days, low-grade fever (hovering around 100), and there's some funky-sh*t comin' outta a few of the staple-wounds.. Gotta see the Doc first thing in the AM (actually about 4 hours from now) and hope like hell I ain't gonna wind up with an infected hip incision...

If y'all don't hear back from me by 1200 Central / Sierra Time (1800 GMT / Zulu), I'm likely headed back to the hospital.. Meantime Stik, you have the conn again...

Here is what I will build. Started on the P-51B tonight, cut fuselage off sprues, scraped off mounting pins and sanded the mating surfaces. The original decals don't look so bad so I am going to try them...after a coating of Testor's Decal kote.

Hans, Baron,

Just found out that the 1/72 Heinkel is a Hasegawa rebox... so you guys were right about that. I am absolutely sure though that the RoG B25(J) is ex monogram. Look for kit number 04520. The boxart shows a desert scheme but there are options for OD pacific theater B25's as well.

After some thinking about it i would like to join in with the F82G and the Mig 15. Is that ok Hans?

Richard

Umm... did i say Mig15? I meant the Mitchell ofcourse....duhhh Confused So that makes the 1:72 F82G twin mustang plus the 1:48 B25J Mitchell.

Ok, done...

Regarding that 1/48th B-25B/C Doolittle Raider kit in 1/48th, that one is a No-Go, just in case anyone gets confused about it.. It was originally a Revell kit, about 1966, IIRC...  Love to get one though... Just to cast copies of the engines... The only 1/48 scale kits of the Mitchell eligible are the two B-25J kits and the B-25H kit... All three are the same model, just with different noses...

Thanks felas, the seller showed a Monogram boxing and further down the page it was a Revell box. So I had to ask. If it is a Monogram original I may just have to jump aboard. Most of my armor builds are kind of stalled out.

Either way the price was right ,I'll post some pics when she arrives..Yes

Is the Revell 1/125 German U-Boat with interior detail a Monogram re-pop?

No that is an old Revell kit. I recall building it in the early 70s when it was sold as U-37. And yes Monogram re boxed and sold the old Aurora U-boat in a box scale kit.

I have not started my Monogram builds yet, but I did spend most of the day painting these two Monogram 1/48 figures from the Me-262 kit. (plus a couple others) I thought that I would share them here. The still need washes and drybrush highlights but they are almost done.

They should come in handy for a diorama idea that I have if I ever get around to building it.

Troublemaker, I love the F-80, its looking great.

Ok, I'm getting started on #1, a Monogram P-36A, it has obviously been rattling around the box awhile, since most of the parts have come off the sprue.

Is the Revell 1/125 German U-Boat with interior detail a Monogram re-pop?

According to Monogram Models by Tom Graham, the only German sub Monogram had was the Aurora re-pop of the 1/209 scale Wolfpack sub.

If someone else knows different, chime in.

I'd like to join in on this build. My favorite kits are Monogram,,and dare I say.....Airfix!!

I will do the old blue box version of the 1/72 scale P-51B. Checked Graham's Monogram book and it is an original.

Was going to do Rommel's Rod,, looking for an excuse to start that anyway,,but see one already here. If 2 Rommels are OK, I'll add that one if not I'll TBA and grab another Mono from the stash.

Great idea by the way Hans!!

 kermit:

Sounds like alot of fun this GB. Could i join too Hans? Lets see.... I've got the Monogram F82 twin mustang, A RoG reboxed B25 in 1/48....a promodeler P39 (monogram with extra PE)....an old Monogram Mig 15....a RoG HE111 in 1/72 (not sure but i think it's a rebox)..... maybe more but this is what i think i have.

For now i am thinking doing the twin mustang and the Heinkel.... didn't decide for sure yet.

Richard

The RoG He 111 is a no-go, Kermit... It's probably a rebox, but not of any Monogram kit I'm aware of..   B-25's ok IF it's a Revell B-25H or J... I don't know about any RoG B-25s being ex-Monogram kits.  Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the only kits that're Monograms are the Revellogram H &  and the two Js (both the solid-nose strafer and glass-nosed variant) and the Snap-Tite version..

The F-82, P-39, and MiG 15 are good to go if you want in with them... Or yu can pick somethiong else too, doesn't matter, as long as it's a pre-merger Monogram at one time or another... For now, I'll hold yoour slot and give you a dual TBA...

The key detail regarding the He-111 is the scale.  Monogram never did an He-111 in 1/72 scale.  I don't think the pre-merger Revell did, either.  The 1/48 He-111 is post-merger, as far as I know.

I can check Graham, regarding the B-25's on both sides of the family tree.  I built Revell's 1/48 Doolittle Raider, and the Monogram B-25H, which were in the respective catalogs, pre-merger, but I'm not sure when the -J was first issued.  The Snap-tite kit also preceded the merger.

Con tutto respetto

Bondoman:looking forward to your build.. I have 2 Rommel's in my stash,,, I took some pics of a Dusenburg at a local museum that I going to use as referances for under the hood, I know its not a Mercedes, but they are both inline 8cyl engines with similiar set ups... Can't wait to see yours!

Hans: wasnt me dude... I got enough old Monograms in my stash.. lol.. but you know eBay was well as me,, ya just gotta be patient.. lol...

Not me, I already have like 3 of those I think.  The prices on eBay have been getting really ridiculous.  I will never pay $40 or more for a Revell 1/48 kit..  There are more and more nimrods trying to charge $100 or more for those1/32 Revell F4-U1 kits, open box yet...  You can't get much of anything decent for under $20 any more.

Awrite here's the first Mono out of the pen.

Rommel's Rod. 1/24 Mercedes Benz halftrack with skeleton crew. Nice model with the chrome wheel cover and good looking straighteight. But that M2 terrain roller up front has to go.

So I grabbed a Donorwagengetpartz  the Hasegawa 1/24 Kubelvolkswagen. Gonna swipe some of the jerry cans, engineer tools and that MG plus top struts etc. to make the Rod look a little more up to Feldmarschall snuff.

Oh, and Hans up there behind the go-pedal gets a pith helmet rather than that stalhelm. He was looking a little, withered by the heat.

Here's a great source for copper tapehttp://www.anythinginstainedglass.com/metals/foil.html

It kicks ass for anyone building a sailing ship. One roll does a BIG model.

Nice job on the Stuka 'pit so far Hans.

Just one question, what's this aluminium tape that you mentioned ?

I'm thinking of changing my planned Bugatti 35B to their Chaparral 2D. I believe that Monogram produced it originally in the '60s, my boxing is a reissue from Revell monogram in 1992. The imprint doesn't have a date. Does anyone have any more history than that ?

Thanks, lemme know what you decide on the cars...

Aluminum tape... Exactly what it is... It's aluminum foil duct tape, and used on furnace ducts, dryer vents, all that kinda stuff where the heat's high enough to melt regualr duct tape.

Comes on a roll about 2 inches wide, adhesive-backed, 10 to 20- foot rolls.  I get mine at Ace Hardware, runs about 6 bucks... It's adhesive is too thick for foiling 1/48 aircraft, but I think 1/24th cars would benefit from it's use in place of chrome...  I use it for all kinds of stuff, especially belts and harnesses...
