PANZERWAFFE

CARL - Sweet!  Looking forward to the paint.

DUPES - Sure it would have been a nice build out of the box but with all the extra goodies its sure to be nice!  Looking forward to your progress.

ERIC - Surely theres tie to finish, right?

Rob, you've seen how slowly I've moved? 3 months blew by. If I get my now sick rear into gear, perhaps I can beat the deadline. I'm home today ill, so that will give me time to get a little done. I'm going to have to step it up to make the deadline.

Good luck Dupes, but I bet you'll get her done.

Me? I'm a little skeptical that I will finish, but will do my best. The weather is being a downer, but it's supposed to improve.

There were two SE chassis produced, with slight differences between them...both were panzer grey, so that's the route I'll be going. I may attempt this whole "color modulation" thingy if I think I can pull it off. We shall see!

Ho ho! It's June! Which means it's Sturer Emil time! Big Smile

I actually won't be able to start in on her today (monthly club meeting tonight), but I figured I should throw down the pre-project photos, and hopefully I'll also get to match up the kit instructions with the PE instructions some time this afternoon.

Obligatory shot #1 - the kit sprues:

This is going to be a big sucker. Don't have an Elefant/Ferdinand chassis built up to compare it to, but I imagine they're about the same size:

The boatload of aftermarket that accidentally fell into the box over the past year or so - RB Models barrel and shells, Lionmarc resin tracks, Voyager PE set.

Decals are the bane of my modeling existence...luckily, Voyager has seen fit to include a set of stencils to avoid any chance of silvering ALTOGETHER. Not to mention the jacks that are missing from the kit, plus other assorted goodies.

Uh, just thinking. I probably should have waited to attach the side skirts after I installed the tracks. It will complicate matters I'm afraid. I'm sure I can still do it; it will just make things a bit messier.

Yes , probably should have attached the tracks first .Whistling Just have a lot of patience before you start attaching the tracks Eric .

Eric & Carl-thanks for the info....looks like it's time for a 'do over'....gotta love the Dragon instructions....

I've read that their instructions leave a lot to be desired still .

Question for the group-does anyone know if the gun cleaning rods were metal or wood?  I would think wood to prevent scoring of the barrel, but given the length of the L/70V, I wouldn't want to guess.

I can't say with absolute conviction Bob, but my guess is wood.

John-nice work....especially on the tracks.  I did a set of 'clip, file, sand, glue, curse, re-glue' Dragon tracks for a T-34....they too were not Magic Tracks.  Looking forward to more pics.

Tools are mounted on the Jagdpanzer.....a lot of touch up painting to be done.  Oh well, it's all good.

 tigerman:

I've seen them built up on an older Pz IV J, with a comparison to the Tamiya J. That was probably at least 12 or more years ago. Probably longer. The schurzen looked like a bear to assemble.

The more I look at them the more they look like a lot of trouble. Still, I've got to give it a shot I suppose. Nothing ventured, nothing gained as they say. Smile

That's the spirit. I almost gave up on my cables, but Rob talked me into scratching some.

Hey Carl! Thanks, and I know what you mean about the weather. Haven't had a lot of time this weekend to much on the build. It's been nice and sunny here the last couple of days. We've been having a lot of rain and storms the last few weeks. It's been good to get outside and get a few things done.

Hi Rob! Thanks! This is an older kit that I've had sitting in the stash since around 1996. Fit is OK but the hull was very warped. A few ejector pin marks in some hard to reach places. The plastic mesh is a sheet that you have to cut out to match the templates. Voyager used to make an update set of PE that included the schurzen. I don't know if it's still available or not. There are probably other sets out there but I haven't looked. I'd say if you want to build one the one Eric has listed would probably be best.

JOHN - Really have a good start now.  The older tracks are long and tedious and yours look great!  Interested in how she builds up and comes out.  Almost purchased this one a few weeks ago but could not figure what schurzen came with it.  Would like to have the metal but how is the plastic type?  Which kit comes with the metal or is it aftermarket?

Anyway cool vehicle with the stepped up front glacis and the mesh schurzen.  Definitely makes for a slightly unique build.

Good luck with the tracks Eric. I've glued the run together like that and you can get them on, it just makes it a bit more fiddly putting them on. Now that you've got them separated they should go on with no problem.

Got my tracks done and the superstructure is attached to the hull. This is how it looks right now.

Hopefully, I'll be able to get some more done over the long weekend. I was really hoping to start slinging paint this weekend but I don't think that's going to happen.

Looks like you've been busy John . More than i can say for project . Nothin done on it today , weathers been nice so its been outside work .

Hey Andy! No, I got the mat many years ago down at Scale Reproductions in Louisville. Yep, that's my bender and I'm going to put it to use here shortly. Not much PE on this build but there are a few pieces to be bent.

Thanks Eric! The tracks aren't the nice Magic Tracks. These are the older style that you have to cut off, trim the nubs on both sides and remove 2 ejector pin marks per link. Tedious indeed. Sadly, no, this has the plastic type mesh screens. Not sure yet if I even want to fool with them though.

John your build is coming along nicely. The tracks look great too. Does this baby come with the metal mesh schurzen?

Yeah, I learned not to be afraid of these guys anymore, so that has been one positive of the the GB so far. Cool

Good news, I was able to undo one of the links on the other tracks, so now they are both unconnected. Hopefully they will go back on easily.

Carl - Nice work on that radio!  The mike really adds to  it!  BTW, what color did you paint the interior?  I thought red oxide was the primer most used, but your's looks more like a brown color.  Could just be the camera though.

Eric - Tracks are looking good and I think you won't have too much trouble getting them on.

Ernest thanks .Your correct its supposed to be red oxide but  the picture comes out brown ..

Eric and Rob thanks guys .
