Eric-if you go with the Battle of France theme, would it be open to aircraft?

In the words of the good field marshall.............YES.

Somethings been telling me you want to do a bird this time Bob. Wink

Actually i think any of them would work for airplanes.

.

Really?  Is it that obvious? Wink

All good themes for a GB-I checked the stash and I have armor & planes for the Italian theme, armor for the Battle of the Bulge, a couple of plane options for a North Africa theme and nothing (or at least I thought) for a Battle for France theme.  However, with a little research, it looks like I could build my Tamiya 109E-4 as a E-3, grab some 'correct' decals (after spending entirely too much time doing research at at Squadron & Google) and be good.  Also, I might try to find a D.520 on the cheap if that's the route you choose.

So, it looks like I've got all the bases covered....just waiting on which kit to put on the deck....

I might hold off on a vote until everyone is done with this thing called: summer. If I start something too early, people will forget about it or there will be a lack of awareness on the subject. I'm thinking of killing the Italian GB. I only have one thing that would really work for it, and I'm not ready to do it yet.

I'm thinking of throwing it out there the first week of September. Possible start up in October. That gives me almost 2 months to finish another project.

Ditto...An October start date sounds good.  I've got three builds that I need to finish soon (two before the end of Sept) and one that I can string out a bit.

Eric-and you are correct about wanting to build a 'bird' this time.  Although I enjoyed the armor experience, I tend to move a little quicker with planes.  I liked your six month build window, but I tend to move a bit slower with armor for some reason.  I will have to admit that this recent build helped me overcome some of my 'fears', i.e.-dealing with a Dragon kit, based on some previous builds of Dragon kits.

So, given all that, I'll start looking for decals or a kit to cover my one gap and then wait for the votes to be tallied.

Don't rush to buy just yet Bob. You never know how the voting will turn out.

I too overcame my reserve for indies, though I built 3 sets before. However, with new tips learned, they were more or less a "snap".

I'm excited, because the forum will vote on this, therefore i haven't a clue what I will do until then. Like you said, I can probably wiggle out of a winter camo in the BofB GB. I just can't make up my mind, but would prefer a Dragon kit before my eyes are gone. Blind Fold I love Tamiya, but they can wait. LOL

Whichever you choose, I'm also in favor of an October start date.  I still need to finish the "Ostfront" and "The group build to end all group builds..." GBs first!

TM - Your Jagdtiger is a outstanding build!  The colors and camo pattern is right on and the build itself is very well done Yes

I too like the October time frame.  Gives time to finish some other things.  Opening the build up to all subjects (armor, aircraft, etc) makes for an intresting finish being able to see all aspects at once.  Myself, have a couple of French B1's a Somua S35 and an AMR-UE Tankette.  Also have plenty of early German armor.  Have been looking for the right motivation to build the French tanks for some time.

Thank you Rob!

I think an early war GB would be just the antidote for these annoying tri-color jobs. However, I will let the masses vote and see where it goes.

Who said there was no camo in early war?

Always loved those camo on French tanks... I think I am going to do one if this GB happens. Stick out tongue

Did I ever tell you that I have an authentic French WWII rifle?  Never fired but dropped twice.

No you have not told me that . Sounds like the "dropped once" has a tragic story behind it Andy .

Chuckle..........

Okay, the Frenchies and the Brits had some funky camo schemes that seemed to have alluded my fried brain. Good options for those that might want to tackle them or single color panzergrey. (yah baby)

Or a Hotchkiss 38/39. I think I do have the option of a single color. Whew. Those hard edges are not my cup of tea. I think you could get away with a good brush, but I like acrylics and they don't paint as well with a brush IMO.

The only Renault (R35) kits I know of is by Trumpter and Heller.  Dont know anything about either.  Here some pics of an R35.  Always liked these pictures, gives good comparison to other vehicles.

I'm leaning towards the S35 and paint it with this paint scheme.  Would use slightly different colors that have seen on other S35 but would use this pattern.  Just think this pattern is very different.

Only French tank I have built was the H39.

We still have to wait for the vote though Whistling

Lookie here... what kit are we seeing inside the storage box?  Oh, is that a Somua S35 tankie thing from Heller?

Yep, it was one of few old kits I won via eBay few years ago.  But if Rob wants to build a S35, then I can do the B1 Bis.  That way we can kick those German butts!  We have plenty of choices...

Wait a minute... I see another potential in my stash!

Oh boy, I am leaning toward Invasion of France GB now...

Andy, you're a crack-up. Cool

Rob, is that the Trumpy or Bronco H-39? I have the Bronco kit, but the painting instructions are confusing. I believe it said Olive Drab. The kit looks intimidating with those minute tracks and busy instructions.

Ugly Carl, just plain ugly. KV II ugly.

The Somua was kind of the French equivilant of the Matilda: Slow, but thick armored.

A Frenchie armor GB? Devil

ANDY - I have the Heller kit also but have not opened it yet.  Have never worked on a Heller kit so dont know what to expect?

Also have 2 Tamiya B1 kits.  One of them will remain French but the other have plans to ty to scratch build and convert into a German 10.5cm FH 18/3 Auf GESCHUTZWAGEN B2.  This is what it looks like:

Also have the Tankette so I can build which ever everyone else does not.

Really enjoyed building that figure set, think you will enjoy it also.

TM - It's the Bronco kit.  The build went togther very good.  Have also built the Trumpeter  H39 Belehlapanzer and it had many bad problems.  Do not recommend any of the Trumpeter Hotchkiss / Renault kits because of all of the issues.  Really liked the Bronco kit and plan on getting more vareants from them.  Now the tracks for the Bronco kit were a real pain in the BUTT!!  They do work though with a lot of patience.  The instructions I believe do show all one color paint schemes which was very common on the real ones.  I painted mine from some references, it was a command vehicle (with all the card suits) at the fall of Dunkirk.  When you build it, expect a really good build until you get to the tracks then have lots of patience ready to get them togther.

CARL - I think it's cute (can one use that word with armor?)  The Somua was rated the best tank in the world in it's day.  The French just used poor tactics.

Cute ? Why not i guess . One guy said on these forums that a armor model  looked 'deliciouse " .Hmm So cute is ok i think . But ugly to the bone is a better discription imo of the R35 .Stick out tongue If we go for a French WW II armor build ( is that an oxymoron ?) how many kit options in 1/35th does that give us , 5 ?????Whistling

Rob- Awesome!  Thanks for posting pictures of the figures.  We will work it out what we can build if they vote for France GB.  It will be fun as usual! Stick out tongue

Carl- I am with you... not sure if French Armor GB works because of limited number of kits.  And some guys said they wanted to build those wingy things.  So better keep it open like Invasion of France GB or Battle of France GB, etc.

Eric- I think we need to have balance in next GB by including German armors or my French tank crew will have nobody to surrender to except for those French ladies with berets...

Oooohhhh. A Frenchie armor GB is starting to intrigue me, because I'm pretty green, which means lots of research. Stick out tongue I think a Battle of France would open it up to more flavors per say. Oh, I'm getting ready to put the feelers out.

Carl, here's a little list of ideas.

Is there something I'm doing wrong on posting links from a MAC? They never highlight.

One could say "there wasn't enough time" to lend in a 6 week war. LOL

There are a lot of subjects, but i have no idea how many are in kit form. Heller I hear might be called "something else" Devil, so I don't know what to make of them. Tamiya's Char B is golden from what I've read. Thanks to Rob's review, the Bronco H39 appears to be a nice kit, and Trumpeter? Seems like Trumpeter is Trumpeter. Tongue Tied

It might be safe to say, instead of a French Armor GB, that we'd go Battle of France instead to qualify German and Brit armor.
