Indifferent stikpusher you're in heavy surgery mode on the ramsey!! surely she will show less years than the mould really have Yes i like

the intricate radar/superstructure/ladders etc are one of the reason that top me to continue the 5 ships tha i have in my stash...

hi medicman i'm glad to se here you and another "mach 2 top speed" planes like the gannet and the tracker Big Smile .. and as your awesome osprey!

glad you like the gannet, lately i'm finding strange (or less notorius) subject to build. On helicopter section i'm working on a kamov ka-18!

just wait kermit to add you in.

off topic, i think the italeri s-3 it's originally from the dead  Esci , italeri collected lots of esci molds.

Thanks Yamato! I think this is more of a "facelift" than major surgery. Adding little details here and there, removing stuff to bring her up to modern standards. And while the molds do show their age, they also show a high degree of nice engineering from that era as well. I agree 100% about the mast work really adding motivation for improvement and making the build shine.

Yes the  1/48 S-3 is a rehash of the old 70s vintage ESCI kit. While they were a good deal back in the day, Italeri overcharges for them today for no improvements or  minimal upgrades.

Did i hear my name drop..?Cool

Did one old Italeri/ Esci F86E for the weekend GB once. Italeri used the unchanged Esci mold and added a huge, 6 option decalsheet to give it an all new feelBig Smile. Basic but nice kit though. I recall having little issues and lotsa fun with it.

I will add your Viking to the rollcall MedicmanYes. Have fun!

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Yeah the Italeri kit is the old ESCI kit. There are some aftermarket stuff out there to improve and update it to current standards. I know that Serria Hotel makes updated (better) enigne intakes. Can't remember the update set but I'll find it. I do have the SAC metal landing gear and the decals for that Cenntenial jet. Got the decals from Fightertown Decals.

I've always had a thing about building the unusal jets such as the MV-22 (obviously), S-3, A-10, etc. I also like to do markings on the jets that you don't see all that often. For example, how many "Jolly Rogers" jets have you seen. A lot. That's why I don't want to do those. Not that they're not cool. Just like doing something different.

Looking forward to starting. I'm a slow builder and I want to get the other stuff that I need. But i'll post pics of the kit and decals tomorrow.

Hi ya Kermit......you may as well add a Firefly to my Tracker build too..........so check that....... AZ model 1/48 Fairey Firefly w/ash radar....I figure we got till 2012 so I may as well keep adding.....hell....there may be more after that......of course it will be in CDN livery. My cat(or helper seems to approve because he is licking the box,Charlie is his name ....don't get dirty thoughts about licking boxes....)

Cheers and gears

Martin

BTW I absolutely love the 100 year anniversary scheme for the Viking.......would love to see it in real life.As far as I am concerned there is nothing better than a modern A/C done with colours to pay respect to squadrons or air groups  that have made such a sacrifice through major battles in whatever theater of war that allow us to have the priveledge to do what we do everyday here online  and day to day............thats my rant of the build.......may be the beer talkin...

nice work all

Esci moulded at the time great things.. i have on workbench the harrier gr3 (italeri rebox..) and details are great compared to the age of molds, just save yourself from the 1/48 Esci tornado, it's an outstanding faillure!

.. jolly rogers? Embarrassed

i made one when i was teenager.. academy 1/72 with superscale decals..

Nice looking Tomcats guys YesYes and one of my favorite jets too.

Kermit i received my model for this group in the mail yesterday ( Saturday) the USS Fletcher in 1/700. Leme tell ya this kit is so small and just cute as all get out and will be hard to resist starting right now. I will post the huge parts count sprues and box art tomorrow. This is also a waterline kit sooooo I guess I will be making a base for it also and trying my hand at simulating water. Gotta built the Yak first or I will run out of time for your other GB.

I just had a very dangerous thought for a base since this seems to be a bunch of firsts for me, never built a modern ship, or sub, or a base. Does anyone make a 1/700 U-Boat model ????

Stik,

Dead Either you are having fun with it or you must be ready to be hauled off to the looney bin. All that PE must have been making you cross eyed by now. Exccellent upgrading of a dated kit!YesYes

Vetteman,

Just took a quick peek at my online shops and a two minute search already revealed stuff by Hobbyboss and Tamyia in that scale. But i am not sure if your collection of tweezers would be small enough. Next pic is a type VIIC in 1:350. So your subs would be half the size:

Will update the front page for ya. Can't wait to see you go out of your comfort zone with building that destroyerBig Smile Admiring the ambition my friend!Yes

See. My point exactly. I say something about "Jolly Roger" and there's two Tomcats with those maekings. That's why I wanted to do VF-1 "Wolfpack".

Great looking Tomcats though! Yes

Thanks Medic! I have a 1/32 Revell Tomcat in my stash. That one will be in VF-1 subdued markings when I build it. I did this one as 1980s VF-84 after reading Red Storm Rising back then. But of all the Tomcat Squadrons, VF-1, VF-84, and VF-111 had the most attractive/visually appealing squadron markings.

Kermit, I am actually having lots of fun adding the PE. This is only my third surface ship build in almost 30 years, and my first attempt at ship PE. With the exception of the radar, it is not as difficult as I feared it would be.

My new avatar reflects the fact that i am now a "made" froggie in the monogram mafia (GB). A kit doesnt have to be a hasegawa or tamyia one in order to get good results. Your builds with all the scratching and detailing a good examples tooYes

Thanks all.

Vetteman- I've heard mix reviews on the gear. I found them real cheap at the model show so I had to get them.

Martin- Now that you mention it, i'm not sure. I'm at work right now so i'll have to check tomorrow and get back to you on that.

Received my U-Boat kit today, and , well ummmm Tongue Tied now am wanderin just what I got myself into this time geeze but this is a tiny kit.

Oh and there are two, thats right 2!! subs in this kit, the VIIC and IXC. Oh and there's more Surprise there is a sinking merchant ship also. Wow So Mr. Kermit sir, with the Destroyer and the two subs with the sinking merchant ship, would this count as 4 builds for this group ? Devil

Now for the bad news, the instruction sheet in in Japanese not English and so I cant even read the color sheet   Bang Head

And ya know after this build is finished I think I will start the 1/48 B-29 to relax after this one Propeller

Big SmileLMAO... You wanted small....?Wink

Surely you do understand that i am going to enjoy this, sitting back with a cup of coffee while you do the brain frying partStick out tongue...

As for the colors, you can ask me to translate stuff to tamyia or testors or the likes; uboat colors were pretty much standardised and well documented. Do your subs have decals/ numbers?

Thi little .pdf i found is a nice read to get into the matter:

http://www.artitec.nl/downloads/instructions/uboat/uboat_colours.pdf

Ok, so.... ONE destroyer and ONE Uboat kit for the roster.....Pirate Have fun my friend!
