Nice looking Gato GT!!That thing is huge!!!!

I got all my resin bits for the Firefly prepped and painted green,I will post pics when detailed. The AZ kit has lots of raised goopy plastic in much of recessed panel lines and pretty poor mold voids and distortions. This is my first ltd run kit from Czech and I guess it is to be expected.Moldings not nearly as nice as my Czech Model 1/48 Goose though(on the shelf).

Decals for Stoof are on the way!!!!Yes

Cheers

Thanks everyone,

Now that I have most of the tiniest parts put together. It will be soon be christened U.S.S Cobia S. S. 245 and after the shakedown cruise, it will be off to the sea of Japan to join in the hunt for Japanese shipping. Geeked

Thanks for the comments guys!!!!

The cockpit and wheel wells are resin bits that come with the kit Yamato.

They are really nice castings and fit quite well together.

Well back to the workbench,i am closing fuselage and hopefully wings to fuse today and will post updates if that happens

Cheers

Bsyamato: Wow! What can I say? Amazing work! I'd for sure like to see our other work.

De Havilland: Incredible pit and IP. From the detail you put into it, one would think that it was a 1/24 scale craft. You must have a great set of eyes and a steady hand!

Guys,

thank you all! I respond very well to back tappingStick out tongueWink

Rob,

Yes opening em up was kind of an on the go decision but it looks great now that im done. And regarding the decks i have been asking a question on a uboat related website forum and these people were kind enough to show me pictures of the real U-201. The camouflage did not run across the decks so i am going to paint that in the standard colours.

Oh and i am just starting painting and weather herSmile. Last night i started with a black wash to darken the deck detail prior to drybrushing and weathering it.

Bsyamato the only reason I can tell I am sorry to use a quote is that I cant say it any better than Kermit T Frog has already said. Your build is a work of art and envy. I totally enjoined following your build and learned a few things along the way.

Kermit you truly are a building machine man !!! I always like following your sub builds. I can see where drilling out the flood ports is very much worth the effort, it really does make a huge difference in the finished model. YesYes

Bsyamato: excellent work on the Gannet. Can't wait to see what you will do on the Seabat

Kermit: What are you going to do regarding the deck? Was opening the flood holes an afterthought? Your kit looks finished!

Opening up the floodholes......

Kinda tedious and boring to do but it is so much better than simple flat black paint inthere...

The seabat is already on the game Maxfax Cool now need to focus first on others gb's involved near to the deadline (one as host Whistling) May not exclude to put  on the  final a 1/350 or 1/700 sub.

Wheater are actually bad in Italy (on the north also peoples died for floods Sad ) then i take some indoor picture of the gannet ,after i try to put more with sun, but heres final pictures for now:

with engines retracted

some detail

full extracted engines

that's all for now about the gannet , i hope you enjoy it Bow Down

Bsyamato: can't wait to see the finished product. Hopefully you will have a few more projects to keep you in the group build.

Kermit: looks great! Didn't you just start that last week? The wooden deck should be painted a really dark grey to black- it was a protective coating on the wood. Perhaps paint the deck a wood colour first. Then the black-grey, and sand off that layer to show some wear and the wooden colour below.

I started to replace the welds and rivets on the port side last night, hopefully a few pics soon.

Guys, Popping by to show y'all i slapped some paint on the submarine. Basic camouflage is on now... Still wondering if i should keep the decks camouflaged or paint it in light grey and wood. What do you guys think?

Having lotsa fun sofarSmile

Bsyamato: What can I say- incredible work! I wish I had your scratchbuilding skills!

Kermit: I'm so glad that you are doing another sub. I am again blown away at your speed building skills!!

I was at a model show just outside of Toronto on Saturday, and there I found about 3 Gannets! One was some sort of resin conversion set- it was in a plain box with no picture. I unfortunately picked up a few more things- a 1/72 S-100 boat for $10 and a 1/24 FW 190A for $20. Now, maybe I'll get around at building them in about 5 years!

Kermit, your bet is winning Crying the gannet actually have lots of danger zones to not touch, but even if was builted as oob with all optional pieces opened. I have a terrible fear to not break something during finishing touch Storm

I forget to talk about a tip i used : spues used for stretched wires for antennas are not normal kits sprues but are from ABS plastic from bandai kits, used for movable inner skeleton on 1:100 mechs, harder than normal styrene and good bending properties, then when stretched with flame, the results antenna wires resist better to unwhished breaks . i you have opportunity steal some of these material spues Cool

If all go in goog way two or three days and i can call finished.

Sub turret looks great Yes  japanese i-400 looks great too for my taste Big Smile

Don't think during ww2 RWR apparatus was used (or not Hmm

Seems that you start a boost build Smile

Bsyamato,

Gorgeous tubing and a very creative way of distributing the weights! I bet you have to go workout at the gym in order to being able to pick up that modelWink So much detail in a 1/72 scale model....

You will find a ww2 submarine such as mine will be very much fun to do. Quick to build and so many ways of painting and weathering it.

Yes,... quick to build up... I have finished the construction part and i am ready to do some last minute filling and cleaning of seamsbefore i am ready to take her into the paint booth.

The conning tower, late version with added barrel shaped attachment on the port side. Probably some RWR receiver array? Metox maybe....Hmm. A bit of filler was needed on the front where the conning tower parts were joined.:

And yesterday i forgot to take a picture of my intended finish, U-201:
