Thanks P38! Now my eyeballs are bleeding!!!
Really, love what you've done here, super eye-catching scheme and I know what a pain splinter edge camo can be to get right- and yours looks perfect.
Maybe sometime in the future we'll see competition with the 'Tiger Meet' by a 'Zebra Meet'.

Sorry for the long absence, guys. Had a lot of stuff happening over the past few months but am now getting back to the plastic ( realizing how little time was left on this GB was part of the motivation ).
Just so the list can be updated, the kit I'm using for the not-so-Blackbird is Revell's 1:72 kit of the SR-71. When I left off, I'd just started rescribing the raised panel lines. I'll post pics in a little bit since I have a lot more of that to do pre-putty and I'm sure most of you are aware of the usual sub-assemblies you'd be working with at this point.
Since I'm so short on time, I'm skipping cockpit detail and just blacking out the windows. Originally, I thought about altering the crew to look more like the "Science Ninja Team" characters, but the closed cockpit and small windows wouldn't have let anyone see it. Besides, the point of this is the wild wings, not strange, brightly-colored outfits on the crew, right?
Anyway, I should have the first part of the rescribing done and putty started tomorrow. The plan is to putty the kit's seams near the edges before rescribing the zigzag pattern.
ok,, nearing the end.... more. weapons pylons are done.. wheels on... some weathering..[:550:0]
Sparrow... Not gonna make it with both entries:
Hans Von Hammer F-4C and F-18 Revellogram 1/48
I'm cutting it back to just the Phantom, if that's ok with ya....
No problem. I can't even get access to my 50% complete F102 kit right now. So I'm even on hold.
Hans von Hammer Sparrow... Not gonna make it with both entries: Hans Von Hammer F-4C and F-18 Revellogram 1/48 I'm cutting it back to just the Phantom, if that's ok with ya....
In the Hangar: 1/48 Hobby Boss F/A-18D RAAF Hornet,
On the Tarmac: F4U-1D RNZAF Corsair 1/48 Scale.
Still hoping to make it here with the "Not-So-Blackbird", but it's gonna be close.
Almost ready for the primer, but I'm running low on the Tamiya I normally use. Anyone got tips on a good alternative I can use that'll handle enamels and polycarb spray paint?
ok,, pylons done... Sidewinders added.. and some GP WW2 bombs from the spares box.. Sparrow missles next.. the decals. and ....:550:0]

P38: Wow, she's looking fantastic!
Kugai: I don't use much Tamiya paint anymore, Testor's Acrylic is easier to find, much easier to hand brush, and I find it sprays almost as well as Tamiya.
Gamera P38: Wow, she's looking fantastic! Kugai: I don't use much Tamiya paint anymore, Testor's Acrylic is easier to find, much easier to hand brush, and I find it sprays almost as well as Tamiya.
and to you both.. I use mostly MM enamels.. if I can.. rarely do I use acrylics.. if the color is not available I do..and then its MM...
The catch there is no airbrush and the LHS doesn't carry Testors Acrylic.
The main reasons I use the Tamiya spray primer instead of anything from Testors are that it 1) dries faster and 2) leaves a less heavy coat. The last couple of times I used Testors gray primer it ended up peeling off when I tried using a mask even though it had been left to dry for 48 hours and ended up obscuring some of the detail.
Kugai: Sorry, misunderstood your question
As to spray primer, yeah I haven't found anything as good as Tamiya. Testors and hardware store paint like Krylon go down really heavy so I hate using them. Maybe P38 has a better idea, I'm not sure what else would work.
No problem Gamera.
So that leaves me unable to meet the deadline this week. After all of those hours of scribing, though, I'm gonna finish this thing anyway. Would there be a problem with leaving a pic here whenever it's done?
Sparrowhyperion, please accept my apology for not contributing to the Wild Wings GB as I had intended. It was an interesting and fun concept, and I had a kit that needed all the help it could get, a vision for it, but no follow thru. Should you decide to extend this build or host another, I would hope to participate with more enthusiasm and bench time.

Hi folks. I know a lot has happened over the last year. Most if not all of us have had to delay builds for one crisis or another, so I am going to extend the build until October 2012. This should give us all (including me) a chance to complete our builds. So lets all just take a deep breath and relax.
Rich
Thanks for the extension. Now I'll definitely be able to get this puppy done even if I have to wait a few more months for Tamiya to start shipping to the States again.
Ditto the thanks on the extension - looking forward to dusting off my "entry".
Kugai; my LHS is now restocked with Tamiya primer, but during the dry spell I started using Alclad's Primer and Microfiller, which is so far a great product and a little cheaper, if you have an airbrush to spray it. I'll probably get a can of the Tamiya Fine White for the times I don't feel like cleaning the AB.

That's the catch here. I don't have a setup for an airbrish and likely won't be able to get one for a while, so I'm stuck with what I can brush paint and what comes in a rattle can.
would a valkyrie in 3 tone splinter camo be eligable for this?
camo will be similer to this
snow + 4wd + escessive hp = :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7egUIS70YM
I believe that that would qualify. :) I still don't have access to my F102 so I am going to have to come up with something else. Maybe a B17G with a red and yellow flame theme... Hmmm...
