Vetteman,

You are putting OD on a mustang??Indifferent I could have almost sworn you would never put anything else than foil on a p51.....Stick out tongue

Looking very very good indeed my friend! Preshading...postshading...it all looks spot on!Yes. Do carry on sir!

Richard

Btw,... I have clamped the F5 into submission and everything came out workable. There is a nasty seam to  get rid of running through the middle of the fuselage from front to end (this kit works with an upper and lower fuselage part as opposed to the usual left and right routine...) but i think i will manage.

Downside is that i will probably sand down some of the raised detail... Perfect opportunity to try the technique where you create panellines with masking tape and putty inbetween in a fine lineSmile Looking forward to playing around with that. Pics soon boys and girlWink

RRB: that Airacobra is looking good. It seems that you got a nice smooth coat of paint from that spray-can too. Don't worry about that paint smudge, you could always make that area have paint chipping!

Vetteman: Im loving that splotchy look you have on that Mustang. Very nice! I might have to steal that technique for you. Wink

Kermit thanks for the complement buddy. The P-51D is modeled after Lt Arval Roberson's Passion Wagon, he became an ace in this mustang, and this one also made Cpt Weaver an ace so one could say this mustang is a double ace Big Smile. This mustang will set along side Lt. Roberson's P-51B, he had a landing accident in the B then was given a D model as the B was a complete loss. BTW the B was rebuilt as a 2 seat trainer.

Hey hurry up on that F-5 man !!!!

Yeah Richard I have been following that build too but I gotta say I dont see how masking all that glass would slow you down any geeze. Clown

Seriously I know how that goes I have been messin with a 1/24 sprint car as I do the Mustang and that is coming very slowly, slower than the 51 if you can believe that. My 3 favorite things, airplanes, motorcycles and, sprint cars Yeah. I have built airplanes and did a motorcycle not too long ago, now its time for a sprinter Stick out tongue

I use aluminum: its what most planes are made out of, and isnt as shiny as chrome. I use a toothpick dipped in the aluminum paint, and scratch/tap where I want the chipping to be. I also run the toothpick along raised rivets/panel lines to show some wear. Dont blob it on all at once, or it will look like you blobbed on silver paint. You can also try dappling it in layers--basepaint, chipping, gloss and decals, chipping, flatcoat, chipping. It will give different sheens to the aluminium.

As an example, here is some wingroot chipping I did on a recent Spitfire build:

Hope that helps!

Hey that looks great Owl! May I add you can also get silver pencils at craft stores that work pretty well too.

68GT: Will try to get photos up of the grey sludge wash sometime next week. Our club model show is this weekend and I'm running around like a maniac trying to get some other stuff finished in time. Plus the blasted home computer is down as well. Bang Head

Hey guys,

Popping by to show you my latest. Pretty much done with the whole assembly part. I must say that everything that goes on the fuselage (engine intakes, exhausts etc.) seem a tad too large so thats going to be some sanding fun in a bit...

Especially the engine intakes were very hard to fit in as they were simply too large. Had to sand the wingroots a bit to be able to slide them in... Nevertheless i must say that it is a fun and swift kit to build

Stamp on the lower port wing says 2001 but i suspect the mold to be a heck of alot olderSmile

Anyways, just some more sanding and putty work before i can have fun with the Ghost grey/ light grey/ blue grey camo jobWink

Thanks for the comments to one and all Toast

CallSignowl to be honest I think I stole the idea from you but did ti with an airbrush and not a paint brush as you did Embarrassed SO you wont have to steal anything. Nice work on that Spit BTW.

Kermit seeeeee I crack the whip and we get F-5 pictures Stick out tongue Now wheres the paint and decals ???? Devil

A quick WIP picture is in order me thinks so ....... I got the decals on and did a bit of fading as they were just too bright. Anyway here it is as she dries on the bench.

I will clear it again this evening and on with the weathering tomorrow.

Thanks 68GT darker might work better, the more I think about it I'm thinking I'll take her by our model club meeting in two weeks and get some more people to look at her in person and see what they think before I wash it off.

Cliff,

Lovely model you have built there!YesYes Absolutely great work! the thing with this seemingly out of place light grey wash is the fact that it really strongly makes me think of a pair of jeans.

Yes...jeans....

It might be totally not what you want to do with it but you could make it an outrageous what if model by expanding on the jeans idea.... Maybe some more texture to the blue... some rivets like you have em on your pants....

Seriously, doesnt anyone else get a strong feeling like the grey resembles stitching like on your pants?

Anyone....?EmbarrassedZip it!

Just a wild thought that i had to share when looking at your pics for the first timeSmile

RIchard: Hah, never thought of it that way but at a second glance I see what you mean.

Gee, maybe I'll see if I can wash it off then, not really the look I was going for Surprise

Gamera IMHO the gray is too light, maybe something like Nato Black would work ? Its really a very dark gray to my eye and would be very suttle I think. Just a thought anyways.

Passion Wagon is finished !! Hope you all like her.

And of course a B/W picture

I actually managed to build this one with out much surface detail being lost to sanding.

Randy: Beautiful job! Love the shading you did on the OD green, and the chipping on the leading edges of the wings worked out really well. Plus you got the checker decal on the nose perfect- something I always have problems with. Only way I'd like her any better is if the nose art were a brunette... Wink

Im adding a "Wildcat", from Hobby Boss. Its one of their 'easy assembly' kits with what seems like only 4 pieces....this will be a very quick build I think! This'll also be the first kit build in my dorm this year, off and on between classes and assignments.

V-Man did it again!WinkYes. Excellent work sir! Every time i can see the time you have spent on your models, something that reminds me i should put a retarder in my bloodstream sometimes..... Or build with one hand maybe...Hmm

Seriously, this model can be regarded as one of your best. Love everything about it.

OWL,

Eats

Never built one of their EZ kits in 1/72nd myself but i do love their bigger brothers and sisters. Good quality, nice priceSmile Have fun miss OWL!

CallSignOwl Thank you for your praise Big Smile I cant wait to see what you do with the Wildcat Eats I hope school is going well for you.

Gamera thank you sir, the shading was a scary experiment that turned out well............for once. As for the decal it was a nightmare, the sheet is for a Tamiya P-51 and it seems the nose on the Monogram offering is just a bit different. So it took a bunch of kicking, cussing, and, well, the neighbors are still tryin to figure out just what was goin on in my mancave. Lets suffice it to say I got lucky Surprise

Kermit thank you my friend for your complements. Let me tell ya I can only wish I could build as fast and near as well as you do. Beautiful paint job on the hiney BTW Toast I dont know why you want to take a retarder via IV, if you really want to slow down, stop drinking Red Bull with a coffee chaser. Clown

Now I am off to the Eastern Front to build a Yak-7

Only way I'd like her any better is if the nose art were a brunette... Wink

PS Gamera the next one in the series is a brunette, dont know when I will get to build it though.

Classes look good so far, with German being my hardest class again. I have some really good teachers too: the ceramics professor is really funny and my US military history professor is very passionate about the subject and gives entertaining lectures (aka, rousing speeches).

During free time after moving in, I began on the Wildcat. Not many pieces in this kit, however!!

The cockpit is very bare and hard to get to, so I would be very hard-pressed to do any scratch building there. I decided to only add some masking tape seat belts and go with a closed canopy.

the fuselage is one piece, as is the wing/underbelly of the plane. Unfortunately they didnt fit together all that well and I got a gap. Nothing a bit of putty and sanding cant handle!!!

The gap was filled easily and now I'm ready for paint. That was quick!!
