My suggestion on how to accomplish the sound effects would involve consuming large amouts of beans and would get me banned for life by Aaron. Dead

Owl, been doing a good deal of catching up on this GB and checking out all the amazing stuff on display here so far. With that said, I was hoping that I could change my entry, because I'm anxious to jump back into this. My last build was a bipe, my two current builds are both bipes, and I am feeling the need (as much as I love 'em) for something with significantly less rigging. So, instead of the Swordfish, could you change my entry to a Tamiya 1/48 He-162A-2 Salamander? Thanks! Yes

Hey OWL. Can i enter a T-6? Both its names are a little wierd for an aircraft. Texan (Who names a plane after a group of people living in an area) And here in NZ we call them Harvards (Who names a plane after a prestigious school?)

MMMmmm, I'm gonna have to say pass on the T-6.  If it has another animal-type name that is mismatched its in, but neither Texans or Harvards are animals.

Owl: Yeah I think the giant spinner has to do with it being a turboprop instead of a piston engine. Still I agree that it sorta spoils the look of the thing.

Mike: I'd recommend you do a Northrop F-89 Scorpion but I think the only kit I've seen of the a/c is out of production Stick out tongue

Su-25 frogfoot?

you can try looking at the NATO names for Russian aircraft, there are a lot of odd names there:  The aforementioned Frogfoot, Bear, Bison, Colt, Fishbed, Fishpot, Foxhound, Hound....    Wink

I think the Israeli have given their own Names to their aircraft :Kfir--Lion cub, and I think they call their C-130s "rhinoceros"  But for those to qualify they'd have to be in Israeli garb....Same thing with other nations. You can find out what they call the F-15, for example, and if its an "Odd Animal" it will qualify if you build the craft from that service!

dont know about turtles but frogs, as owl so eloquently pointed out are thereCool

But to add one that comes to mind.... Didn't the russians nickname their I-16 fighter "ishak" or "mule"...?

Thanks Owl, I forgot about the Frogfoot. Still I don't think there's ever been an aircraft named after a turtle.

There was the experimental British Tortoise ultra heavy assault gun but since it crawls and a turtle crawls it doesn't fit Owl's definition of 'odd animal'. Plus I don't think there is a kit- shame since it's a neat vehicle.

I just started an Monogram F8F Bearcat in 1/72 scale and think should fit right in.  Removed most of the parts from the spreu and cleaned them up.  I also glued the wings together.  i also have some CAG Air Group 19 decals I hope to use on it if they hold up.

On Ed's bench, ???

ive painted the bottom of the wings with tamiya light ghost grey spray paint and then painted the white stripes on with humbrol acrylic number 34.
then i glued the wings together with a rather odd setup Hmm.

the masking didnt turn out the way i hoped it would... but thats because im using normal masking tape Stick out tongue, i tried to clean it up with a hobby knife by carefully scraping off hte excess paint.

next i can attach the wings ot the fuselage. and then i have too finish up the bottom of the fuselage.

ooooh, I'm loving that blue color on the Dark Shark, Gamera! Very nice.

RRB: I always worry about painting the assemblies beforehand, because if there's gaps to fill the paint will be scraped off during filling and sanding. The little Airfix kits I have built arent exactly shake-and-bakes and require a bit of work on the fit of things....

Owl: Thanks, I love the old blue US Navy planes, I suppose the new grey is better camo but I think the blue is just more attractive.

Baron: Have you tried the blue masking tape? I'm guessing that you should be able to find a version of it where you live. It looks like the regular tan stuff but it's low-tack and won't rip your paint up or leave residue on the model. I've found it works almost as well as the Tamiya masking tape and is much cheaper. One roll will do about a dozen models or so.

the wings are on, and so is the canopy.Big Smile

i spent $9 on a medium sized bottle of pacer formula 56 canopy glue.

OWL: ive worked with so many airfix models and they do require a lot of work, i was kicking myself for paint before hand i cant remember why i did it.

Gamera: next time i visit my LHS i'll buy some tamiya blue masking tape.

wings are on.

close up of the canopy.

the bottom of the plane, i cant spray it untill i get that tamiya blue masking tape! a little filler was needed though.

next i need to paint he elevator fins then glue them, i hate glueing the elevator fins together, they never want to glue straignt! Sad.

looking good, RRB. Try picking up blue painter's tape at the hardware store. It will be much cheaper than the Tamiya brand, and you'll get more of it too!

I got some Ace brand blue painters tape that was placed on fully cured paint and filler for about an hour and it pulled up paint.  I think the 3M brand tape is not as tacky.

Haven't been on here in a few weeks, kind'a in a bit of a modelers slump ( anybody else ever get those). Mostly trying to get in a new bench time routine due to a new job with new hours plus the usual summer time family and household  pressures.

Have been keeping track of goings on through e-mail notifications and browsing around the forums, some great work by one and all. Toast

What caught my attention was the mention of  3M blue masking tape. Just a tip to pass along. There are two types . One is the standard  3M blue tape , I believe the product number is #2090. While a good painters masking tape( I usually keep a roll handy) , it is a medium tack tape and can cause problems pulling up underlying paint.

What you want to look for is the 3M blue tape for delicate surfaces #2080. It is a much lower tack masking tape and should not pull up any paint. The tape has a smoother texture and is a touch lighter color blue. Remember to look for "delicate  surfaces #2080". Great stuff!

If you still have a problem with this tape pulling up paint then the problem is with the bond of the paint to its base.

I promise to get back to some serious bench time soon and get the Bulldog going again soon.
