Hi Owl;

First of all, wishing you much success on your exams, and second I want to give you an update on my anticipated "contribution" to your GB theme.

After lots of research of kit reviews, it seems that the Aardvark remains an elusive subject. Too bad...it's a very unique AC, but it seems that Academy, Italeri, and Hobby Boss versions all have serious flaws requiring major AM corrective surgeries..so pass. Likewise with the Brewster Buffalo (I just get this image of the real flying animal, which is kinda the reputation of the actual performance), and nobody is applauding any particular kit.

So for me it's down to a HobbyCraft 1/32 Allison Mustang, on route from Squadron, or a Revell AG Piper Super Cub in WWII markings. I know the Mustang is a go but will you allow a wussy Super Cub in an ANIMAL GB?

sorry to hear about your kit-finding troubles...A 1/32 scale kit would be cool to see built. And the Cub would be a go, lots of baby animals are called cubs!

Decals?  I would think Squadron, GreatModels or SprueBrothers would have some.

Miss Owl if you please may I join with a 1/48 Revell/Monogram P-51D mustang flown by Lt. Arval Roberson ? It will be a cross over from the Monogram GB. Also if time allows me I may also offer up a 1/48 Piper Super Cub.

Opened the box and started checking the parts.  Lots of styrene here. Here are the turret , deck, and hull parts.  Using an after-market set of cannon barrels and screen for the engine grills.

Well hello all!! Now that the Osprey is DONE, it's time to get started (really) on my Tomcat. I have the True Details cockpit started but that was as far as i've gotten.

Here's the decals I'll be using from Fightertown Decals

I got the Steel Beach replacement nose as you can see above because the kit one is horrible.

Here's a comparison.

Now here's pics of the cockpit before and after.

I'll start on the rest of it tomorrow. I was also at the Model Mania 2011 show Saturday and couldn't find any A-10 decals that I wanted. Sigh. Back to the drawing board.

wow, medicman, this tomcat is gonna be great!! Those red markings will certainly make it pop, too.The resin replacements do look like substantial improvements...but dang that office looks great. The cockpit is packed with detail, so its always my favorite part of the build.

I cant remember, are you trying to replicate a specific A-10?

Medicman, I can tell already it will be a marvelous build.  I lack the eyesight, fine motor skills and the patience to get too much into the super-detailing.  Your 'Cat is gonna look great!

Thanks OWL and Maj Mike. We'll see how good it will be. I'm trying to fins some other info on the Tomcat. VF-1 Wolfpack was the only F-14 to score an air-to-air kill in Desert Storm. I'm trying to find out the exact aircraft it was so I can do that one.

And Maj Mike I use Sharpie Acrylic Paint Markers for the cockpit. It makes it easy and as I drink way to many sodas and energy drinks, my hands shake to much to paint that small of details with a paint brush.

Owl as far as the A-10, i'm looking for decals for the 23rd FW. It seems there's a lack of good decals for this fighter wing. I'll keep looking.

I like the idea of super-detailing, but a lot of the PE stuff is just beyond my current skill level.  I'll keep trying.  I'll post some more pictures of the Maus in the next few days.  Being retired is an advantage in building models.

I plan on numbering the Maus, "229".

Ditto I have about 12 or so in the stash as well and I need to build the ones I have. Went to our Model Mania and didn't buy one kit.

Medicman71 this site may help you find that excact F-14 from Desert Storm, I found it invaluable for my Tomcat builds

http://www.anft.net/f-14/f14-serial.htm

You can search by Buno and find what you are looking for I think. I shink you can search by squadron also

Scorpiomikey: Mom said I had enough at 12, too. But I really need to start reducing my stash....if only to get new kits later!  Stick out tongue

MAJ Mike: I only have one final left--the German one tomorrow evening. That gives me all day today and most of tomorrow to pack my room. Which is too much, actually. I might have to break out a kit in that time.... And this is what the top shelf in my closet looks like. And I have even more stacked on the other side of the closet too!

Medicman: I will have to be careful at the IPMS nationals this year and make sure I don't get too many things! I have a little piggy bank that Ive been saving my loose change in all year. and that is all I'm gonna spend! (or so I tell myself!)
