P38: Thanks!

Owl: Thanks and thanks again for a great GB, this has been loads of fun.

Baron: Well, if I get to use the hypothetical aircraft. As an experimental machine the real plane didn't carry any guns!  Dead

Vetteman: Thanks, I enjoy something off the wall every now and again. And I debated some weathering but decided to skip it since she's not a real plane even if I painted her as an operational aircraft.

Gamera a great example of an unusual subject well done YesYes I too have tried to bring out panel lines on dark base coats and it seems almost impossible to do. IMHO you should be proud of this build she looks great. I also think it would have been very clean because the aircraft never made it out of prototype.

Ok Owl and guys- here she is. Still not crazy about how the panel line wash worked out. She's painted and decaled for a hypothetical aircraft from VF-41 'Firebirds' (the actual aircraft never got beyond tests). The only aircraft built was scrapped in 1947.

Howard - that is a cool little plane, can't wait untill its done!

Gamera - so the decals, are they 3cm from one end on the band to the other end, or is the  ircle 3cm in diameter? I appreciate your help!!

My corsairs dimensions are - length - 13.8cm (138mm) wingspan - 17.3cm (173mm).

RRB: New work on the corsair! The smallest insignia I'd have would be about an inch/3cm in size which I'd figure would be too large for most 1/72nd kits though. Decals for a Corsair shouldn't be that hard to find I'd think though.

Daddy: I have no idea if that's the right shade of red or not but she looks ready to rock n' roll! The black scallops are going to look really cool.

 Nice Bearcat ,68GT!

Neat little Tigershark RRB! I agree with vetteman , your skills are improving. The pic of the Corsair shows this. The USN tri-color scheme can be tricky to pull off. I do see a little paint bleed under at a couple panel lines aft of the cockpit. Remember , the air brush gives you much more control over the spray than rattle cans. Give a light coat at first , let dry a few minutes , then follow up with another slightly wetter coat.  The airbrush takes practice and honestly , I'm not the handiest with one.

Apologies for not posting sooner . Lots going on in my little corner of the world keeping me from getting to the bench as often as I would like or need to. I do finally have color on the Bulldog. Here's the pics.

This first pic shows some checking of the white base coat . a case of too much paint too quick, trying to get paint on the inside of the wing struts. Sanded down a bit and recoated those.

Base coat of white.

Tada!!! Red!   Since I can't find any color pics of the original Bulldog , have to go with paintings of the racer for color reference. Most seem to suggest a bit darker shade of red. Mixed one 1/4 oz bottle of Testors gloss red with a 1/4oz bottle of Testors dark red to come up with "medium red?" .

The kit comes with patterns to mask off for spaying the black scallops and swoops. Next step.

Gamera - Looking forward to that dark shark! Thanks for the offer, how big are the 1:48 decals?

68GT - looks like a mighty fine bearcat!

68GT: Hey, looking good there!

RRB: Sorry, If you were building in 1/48th I'd probably have some USN decals you could use but they'd likely be too large for 1/72nd.

PS: Cross your fingers the Shark is done soon, couldn't find a pair of wheels the right size to replace the missing one, the Hellcat wheel was too large. Funny, I found wheels off a junked P-51 almost the right size.

A little slow but I think I just have the canopy and sludge wash to do.

I think I'm going to keep this one relatively clean.

On Ed's bench, ???

Reasoned - really? I thought my hurricane was better? But this corsair will defiently be my best!! I'm doing a tri-colour USN scheme but the kit didn't come with USN markings.

Vetteman - lol, I just got home from the LHS with some clear coat! Stick out tongue - Testors all-purpose dull coat. What's on the bench at the moment is a Airfix 1:72 F4U Corsair, you wouldnt have any spare 1:72 USN decals would you? Otherwise I might have to have RAF markings on a USN corsair.

Thankyou for all the nice comments!!! Big Smile

Real Red Baron Nice P-40 man !!YesYes Your air brushing skills have improved a bunch for sure, and I do see improvement in your over all building skills. Way to go !! What's next up on your bench ?

A sugestion if you dont mind it, I clear coat with future before adding decals then depending if the decals are glossy, most are, I will add another gloss coat over the decals to even the surface shene up then dull coat. If the decals are a matt finish I will go with the final dull coat skipping the second coat of future.

Baron,

Yes i am me matey! It got me modelling in the first place. Nothing as impressive as a 17th century ship of the line and nothing as scary looking as a german type VII submarine (IMHO).

RRB: Sharp job! Great job on the complex paint scheme. As Owl said you might want to cover up the canopy and give her a quick coat of flat to make the decals blend more. No big deal though, at least you got the landing gear nice and straight- something I still have problems with.

That looks very good, RRB! You should try adding a sealing flat coat after you do the decals. That will help hide the decal film and make the markings look painted on.

Red Baron, your skills are improving..Yes Looks good !

2 things.. it looks like you missed some of the seam on the leading edge of the wing, Port side.

2nd, is that it looks like you puttied over the cowl flap opening on the belly, just before the wing root.. That should not be puttied as it opens and closes on the real plane to cool the engine. It should be just an open area there..

Other than those.. looking good.. Keep it up !Smile
