I was actually kind of nervous before spraying it. It's been about a year and a half since the last time I used a rattle can. (And that one didn't come out good). I'm trying to keep this one basic. Kind of like Matthew Usher's Corsair build. So far I haven't even used my airbrush yet.Surprise

My wife's planning on taking the kids to visit her parents in Houston for 4-5 days in early July. Even though I have a back-breaking honey-do list (clean out garage, clean up backyard, start packing the office...the first two of which will take place in 100+ degree heat!), I'm hoping to time it so I can really crank on the Mustang right around then.

Speaking of which...only a few things left to do on the Panzer IV, then it's wild horse time!

Currently working on an A-20 for my own GB, and then its time for a shiny P-47.  I've made up my mind, going to try the Alcald paints on this one, instead of my usual MM Metalizers.

All the works in progress are looking great!

B17pilot,

Can't wait to see your take on an alclad jugSmile Remeber, misted multiple coats. This paint is "hot". It will go pebbly and rough if you rush it.

Aren't you familiar with the B17? I am getting these strange paint suggestions from revell: light grey for seatbelts and even bright yellow for seat cushions?? My best guess it is to mimic life vests.... Would rather guess they would be brick red, olive or leather.... Haven't googled for pictures yet though...

Yep the seat cushions where yellow on the seats, except for the ones in the nose on the -G series (the ones with out a full back). The yellow seat cushions where that, just seat cushions.  Crews wore the Mae West life preserver, and if the plane ditched, there are two life rafts located above the bomb bay, accesed by a hatch on the outside on both sides.

Lookin' good, Owl!

And...I'm officially off to the races with the Mustang! Just prepping parts for priming at the moment, and I'm figuring I'll do the cockpit/construction posts more in-depth over at 8th AAF, before jumping over here for paint.

But I'm playing with some resin this time around, and wanted to show it off! After the disappointing Legends stowage set for the Pz.IV (I didn't end up using any of it Sad), returning to Ultracast stuff is like saying hi to an old friend.

First up, we have the Ultracast seat vs the kit seat. Just...no contest.

Next, the Ultracast spinner. By itself it's a lot cleaner than the kit spinner, but IMO its the prop blades that really set it apart.

Doogs I have to agree with you the resin parts are quite nice and much more detailed. I do have a full set of goodies for a P-51B but havent worked up the courage to build it and use them yet. I did get my mitts on a 5 blade prop for the Griffion engine from QB and man leme tell ya it is a gem.

Kermit man thats a bummer, have had that happen to me and man the air turned a beautiful shade of blue Angry I have to ask, did it make that ricochet sound as it left the tweezers like mine did ??

Got some detail work done recently on the P-51, mainly just the landing gear, but everything is pretty much the same when I left off in January.  Modelings been a little slow but its picking back up

Kermit - If it helps, the Norden bombsight was removed from the bomber every night (it was top secert and all), and when installed and on the ground it was covered up by a canvas bag, only when the plane was airbourne was the thing uncovered.

No Randy,..... i meant lightspeed: a hole opened in subspace and it dissapeared into interstellar speed with a bright flash of light and a loud bang..... I have been having serious disruptions in the time/ space continuum in sector mancave alpha eversince causing me to float in and out of the fifteenth dimension. I however managed to reroute power to the spares box

Ahhhh I see Kermit, well, I got the idea, I think it came from CallSignOwl, a bowl of jelly beans seems to placate the carpet monster, the concrete rock monster, and even the dreaded gremlins from a galaxy far far away. They left ,me alone in the mancave for a long time, that is until my baby sister and her son discovered the jar of jelly beans. Now I have another set of troubles cause if I hide them from my sister the monsters cant find them and they strike with a vengeance, so now I have a jar of hot banana peppers on my bench and that seems to be working for both now. However I do have to put out the jelly beans once in a while to keep all happy and trouble free.

Or try not to use my self closing tweezers as a clamp for rounded parts..... I will keep the jelly bean idea in mind though, even if i might end up devouring them myselfTongue Tied Yummmm

Anyways.... while i am here anyways i might show a few WIP'sSmile Bomb bay, pit and forward compartiment are done now and i am going to start on the radio room next. Everything you see is dryfitted but the fit is so excellent that i could just glue the other fuselage half onYes

(first pic taken with flash to emphasize the fact that i used flat black for it and gloss black for the dials. Usually i just pop in some future but wanted to play a bit...)

And it is more pics you getStick out tongue. Just finished the radio room compartiment...:

And i was talking about having to scratch a makeshift Norden sight. Ended up going basic with an upside down turned tank headlight and a piece of sprue. Also could not resist putting something of a map on the Navigator's bench:

Looking at the instructions i have the top turret, sperry ball turret and rear turret to do next before we can close up some stuff. Looking forward to it myselfBig Smile The turrets are engineered similar to all the rooms and compartiments. Easy to build and paint segments that are glued in separately. Simply love the tech guys at Revell!Yes

The dropped flaps?  I bought that set as well but they ended being too small to use.

A quiet house gave me time to work on the B-25 some more. The wiring and painting on the two radials is finished. This is my first time wiring engines, and it took some time, but really improved the looks of the engines!

and the major assemblies. Getting closer to painting stage. The past few NMFs I did were all in foil, and I wanted to try my hand at NMF paint this time. Nothing fancy though, just Testors and Krylon Rattle cans.....

Owl,

Looking absolutely great sofar!Yes Wiring the engines, even with less wires is always a interesting thing to see that will draw attention away from the boo boo'sWink

My first painted NMF was done with a DIY market all purpose rattlecan. Lemme tell you that you will want to watch out with it as it is very very easy to spray too much, causing runny paint. It's more or less shooting at a fly with a shotgunBig Smile

Step away a foot and try misting it on. Thats the best tip i can give you. But i am absolutely sure a lady with your skill set can tackle a spraycan finishWink

Eatthis,

In one word... Yes you can. Try one of their high shine finishes like Chrome or Polished aluminum. Needs a black gloss basecoat first though. The Swanny's models website has a good tutorial on it.Wink

Gamera,

Thank you my friend. You will not be dissapointed by the B17!

Well people,... showing my activities from the last few days:

Cleaned the mancave and reorganized a bit:

Worked on the top, sphere and rear turrets:

Installed the ammo for the waist guns. Tried to implement Hans von Hammer's tip about using tie wraps for ammo belts but couldn't find one in the proper scale...Sad. It is the least detailed part of this kit and begs for replacement... Next time i guess....

After all this was done the big "gluing the fuselage together" stage was reached:

Great fit even though tight at places. There was one spot that will need some attention:

Probably made a boo boo myself as everything fits like a glove.. Maybe a bulkhead too far to the front or rear.... Nothing that can't be solved thoughBig Smile

More WIPS soon my friends. I can certainly reccomend this kit to anyone interested in building a 1/72 scale B17. I also have the Academy  version that is similarly priced but miles behind in detail OOB.Wink
