I reviewed a little of the movie last night and noticed they were either red or yellow nosed (only the prop hub) with standard RLM 65 on the bottom, not sure of the top color(s) and if it was splintered or something else, maybe you know.

They were painted in the standard 1940 Luftwaffe splinter-pattern of Black Green and Dark Green over Light Blue, but I don't know the RLM numbers... I used the Tamiya colors, XF-27 27 Black Green, XF-26 Deep Green with a touch of white added (otherwise the colors are too close), and XF-23 Light Blue for it, painted the spinner and rudder  yellow and used a "Yellow 4" decal with Rottenfuhrer stripe aft of the Balkenkreuze.  Haven't found the right Staffel Badge yet...

Probably woulda been better to use XF-58 Olive Green instead of the XF-26..

Thanks Hammer....I actually went to Hobby Lobby today....first time in one of those...

No sweat..

Thanks Hammer....I actually went to Hobby Lobby today....first time in one of those...the closest to me is in Ft Myers about 160 miles away on the Gulf coast....but since I was over there any way for work I made the trip a bit north more...interesting place...not too many kits besides cars....lots of them....nice selection of MM paints though. I found the sheets and got a can of the fixative too...never made my own decals...I dont think theres much too it..we'll see how it goes....Oh an dmy original idea didnt work...walked out of there with 2 kits Tamiya Hanomag and a 755 mm anti tank gun. I built the 75 as a kid...long time ago...and for 7 bucks I couldnt say no ....oh well....thanks again

 Reasoned:

I have just received the Academy 1/48 Hispano HA-1112 "Buchon" kit.   What would you think of a Buchon built with the same color scheme as portrayed in the movie "Battle of Britain" but with a fictional marking for pilot "Lt. Reasoned"?

I've got two of those, with one at 90% for the "Hollywood GB" (the other's going to be the CAF's "Yellow 14", an actual Buchon from the movie, and one I worked on many years ago, when it first got to Midland)...

It's a fine kit, although you'll need to do some very minor surgery to make a "BoB" Movie kit... The those nose "guns" are simple pieces of wooden dowel on the CAF's "Hispanoschmitt", without the flash-hiders. However, the gun-troughs are not there, so you'll need to rework that area to get them to fit the aircraft's gun-line.

The other thing that's odd about it is the lack of a seat-back.. The seat-pan is there, but nothing for the pilot's back but the bulkhead.  A piece of sheet styrene with a rim of strip will fix that, along with an epoxy putty back-cushion.

Last, but not least, is the chin scoop.. It doesn't fit well, but it's nothing a little filler can't fix...

Also, I'got the Monogram Fw 190A ready to crack open and become Leutnant Jakob Von Hammer's Ost Front Jabo... (Technically, I'll be the son of Oberst Hans von Hammer, the renowned WW1 "Enemy Ace" and my screen namesake.)  Hans Von Hammer is also flying on the Ost Front, although his Geschwader is currently equipped with Bf 109Fs, his being an all-red 109 (with no hakenkreuz-VonHammer refused a direct order from Goering about this matter, BTW), prior to his forming his own Jadgverband of Me 262s for Reich Defense (Reichsverteidigung) later on..

Thanks for the pointers Hans, I reviewed a little of the movie last night and noticed they were either red or yellow nosed (only the prop hub) with standard RLM 65 on the bottom, not sure of the top color(s) and if it was splintered or something else, maybe you know.  I may have to do some "adjustments" to get it looking okay.

Looking forward to the 190, we can have a JG 0 wing with our two birds!

Hi everyone, reporting my progress so far. The cockpit has been started on the P-36, also working on ideas to make it personalized. While researching the Hawk, I came up with an idea for this GB and if all goes well I'll post some pics soon.

Okay, let me release this trial balloon for advice.  I was going to build a Bf 109, since this is fictional "imagination" GB, I have just received the Academy 1/48 Hispano HA-1112 "Buchon" kit.  It comes with markings for either a Spanish (which might be kind of interesting) or Luftwaffe (fictional I would suppose since the Spanish built this with the Merlin engine and it's doubtful the British would have been keen on this Wink).  What would you think of a Buchon built with the same color scheme as portrayed in the movie "Battle of Britain" but with a fictional marking for pilot "Lt. Reasoned"?

BTW, nice Texan Scorpio! Beer

Manny, hope you are not kidding... I AM DEFINITELY planning to paint war paints on his face.  Anything to scare those wussy Germans!  Wink

Originally, I was going for just red only but I recently found this great picture on internet so it looks like they had their faces painted with both red & white too?  I really dig this...

That's EXACTLY the picture I had in mind when I wrote that...

SM- Nice looking plane! Yes  I like the decals on the tail.   I wish I can build models quicker.  Unfortunately I am one of those slow builders... Stick out tongue

Manny- Reporting from Fort Campbell... I didn't realize this is one of old Dragon 1/16 kits.   I had it primed and realized there was more work to be done to make it better.   Look what's happening here...

You see the cracks?  Are those common with Dragon 1/16 figures?  I was planning to order few more but now I am not too sure.  I am not sure what you call those... after primed, I noticed cracks were more visible on the arms and head itself.  Good thing I had Mr Surfacer 500 so after an hour they all have disappeared.

Another issue here... backpack attached to the strap on the right.  Notice more cracks on the pack too.

I used the smallest rod to fill in the gap...

A drop of Zap CA at end...  Manny's mistresses would have been proud.

Airbrushed black from under so all edges and trims are darker...

This is my reference book...

It has pages about US paratroopers specifically Screaming Eagles... photograph for discussion purpose only.

I am using LifeColor acrylic paint from US Uniforms sets as there are two.

Sorry about the picture... hard to see the pre-shading now.

Tamiya masking tape was used and the knee patches was airbrushed.

Three different of flesh base paint was airbrushed on the head and hands starting with darker tone at the bottom to the lighter tone at top.

No rules?  I was thinking about making the mohawk much longer and use something like fake black hair?

MOJOs, thanks for looking... comments are always welcome! Beer

Dear Manny the Master of MOJO!

Here's my WIP... started working on this last fall but it got stalled.  Now I am determined to finish it!  Bought this kit via evilBay for $15...

http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww137/aleffler/Figures%201-16/IMG01535-20100913-2249.jpg

I expected better from Dragon... especially the head!

http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww137/aleffler/Figures%201-16/IMG01533-20100913-2247.jpg

http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww137/aleffler/Figures%201-16/IMG01534-20100913-2248.jpg

http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww137/aleffler/Figures%201-16/IMG01527-20100913-1708.jpg

Like I said, Dragon did crappy job on the head... you can see why.  Some major hickey mark from his mistress I bet!!! Stick out tongue

http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww137/aleffler/Figures%201-16/IMG01687-20101023-0058.jpg

I spent hours scribing to make the details come out... you can see the difference between two side pockets.  The right set has been scribed.

http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww137/aleffler/Figures%201-16/IMG01685-20101022-2359.jpg

The gun barrel was not even hollow... come on Dragon you can do better!

http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww137/aleffler/Figures%201-16/IMG01751-20101106-1704.jpg

http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww137/aleffler/Figures%201-16/IMG01753-20101106-1707.jpg

Now they are ready to be primed...

http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww137/aleffler/Figures%201-16/IMG01691-20101023-1035.jpg

http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww137/aleffler/Figures%201-16/IMG01690-20101023-1035.jpg

Off to the paint booth now to prime several builds using Mr Surfacer 1200.  I love the smell of naplam that late at the night!  Oh, it was just the paint fume... close enough!

Looking good...based on the age of these mouldings I'm not surprised w/ the issues you had but it looks good after you've done some clean-up...

As far as all the questions on the rules...there really are no rules...use your imagination.  As long as it is WW2 and you are not modeling yourself to be of rank higher than a 2nd LT then you are good to go...

Er, well i finished it. Hardest part of the whole kit was the decals cos they were sticky. Otherwise pretty much a shake and bake kit, never even used filler. Will post photos as soon as i can get them uploaded.

Good morning! To make it official, I'm going to build the Hobbycraft 1/48 P-36 Pearl Harbor Defender. It's going to have  a custom camo scheme and other enhancements. Sprue will be cut upon completion of the Tomcat currently under construction.

no..it doesn't have to be real office.. office was in quotes, meaning model where you'd be.. or what you'd be in.. tank.. plane, ship.. etc... go the front page, and read the builders choices, and search the original thread for ideas.. Yes

Thanks for that like manny. In terms of markings, ive decided that im going to go with OOB markings and put a wee RNZAF low-viz kiwi roundel (Dark blue background, red kiwi) just under the forward cockpit.
