Dupes- Thanks.. I hope to paint more American figures in 2012!  Makes sense... go overboard with modulation because of winter wash.  I will do the same on my StuG. 

Guys- Thought I'd show you how I highlight my figures... the trouser before the job.

Now they have been lighted using dark grey as I didn't want to go aggressive with color this time.  Allow paint on the edges to settle for a minute then dip your brush into thinner.  I use LifeColor thinner to help the paint blend.  Continue until you are satisfied.

My first Friulmodel tracks ever.  I am leaving for hobby store so I can get dress pins.  I often read they work better than provided wirings.  Long story the Magic Track I won on eBay for $17 never came. The seller thought he had it in stock.  Dumb!  He issued credit immediately.  Not sure if I should give him a bad rating... I am not that kind of person.  The seller offered me some kits instead but I had those already.  No big deal...

Ben- You are going to love those W&N paintbrushes!  I want to buy few more especially one with flat head if possible for edge painting after the holidays.  I got rid of Tamiya paint several weeks ago... they were only good for airbrushing.  Sent five bottles to our friend Orgejohn (John)... hope it made his day especially it has been not easy finding paint for armors.

Anthony- Thanks!  You got that right.  Normally I use darker flesh tone for base coat but since it is in middle of winter in Russia, I am using the lightest flesh tone.  Will add very light pink paint on the cheeks... hope they will come out good.

I've got a 1/35 Tamiya Machine Gunner set with various figures included and the three excellent figures that came with my Cyber-Hobby SiG 33B so I'm going to see what I can do with them.

I've some EXCELLENT brushes right down to 10/0 (Windsor and Newton) and a large variety of Vallejo paints and W&N and MIG oils so I'm well set. Forget brushing Tamiya Acrylics - never again!

I might try and make a little Vignette from the Tamiya set - two of the guys are lying down, one is manning an MG42 and his buddy is feeding him rounds from the ammo can. They would look great on a small base.

Dupes- HA!  Andy for hire?  I trust that you are good at figures too.  Can't wait to see your next update. I always wanted to try color modulation using AK paint set which I don't have one yet.   

I hope to put winter camo on mine this weekend.  Have NO plan except to put up xmas decoration up to make my wife happy.  I hate that part... I ain't Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation!

Ben- LOL!  That easy?  I wish... time consuming you can say.  I have spent about 4-5 days/nights on those so far.  Like I always say, take your time and add several different tones on the figures.  The top uniform has four tones so far and one more at the very end which is dark wash using oil paint. 

I haven't added lighter tone to the trousers on the edges... plan to do that tonight using dark gray instead of light or med gray I used on the jackets cause its color was lighter. 

Practice will only get you better at figure painting.  I'd like to show you my first set of figures I painted two years ago...

Not too proud of my first work.  But I am keeping them to remind me how much I have learned over time.  My second and third figures set for the 234/1 and StuG III B... I used the highlight and dark wash method for the first time but still not so great.

 My fourth figures set... for my Mauder II.  I switched to LifeColor and Vallejo paint.  Saw a HUGE improvement.  See it for yourself.  Model Master and Tamiya suck!!!  I am in process of phasing them out...

 Fifth figures set for my M24 Chaffee... they are still my favorites.  Of course they are Americans!

My sixth figure set for Pz IV Ausf H...

You can see the improvement after each figure sets.  And paint made a big difference too.  This time I am using better paint brushes so wait and see....

Wow, those figs look great! I'm building this one closed up, but maybe I can enlist you to paint up a couple of dudes for my next build...

Speaking of which, basecoat is on the StuG. Going to fire some highlights/color modulation/call it what you will, and then it's whitewash time!

Guys- Sorry for being slow... painting the exterior wall of my house for two days in a row has drained pretty much of my energy for several days that I didn't want to touch any paintbrush for a while.  Finally I did some work on my figures adding highlights to the edges... the uniforms are finally done but they will get burnt umber wash at the end.

 Detail painting on the personal gears & weapons is next!  Stay posted...

I'm still tempted to at least have a crack at painting one of the numerous figures in my spares box to use as a Commander figure for the old Tiger I. I reckon that a nicely moulded Milliput face shawl thingy and overcoat to keep out the cold will look good and not require great face painting abilities. I'll keep practicing. All I need to do is leave the Cupola hatch assembly until the figure is done before I decide to use him or not - if not I'll be closing that hatch up!

I'm chuffed you are getting this same kit, I'll be looking forward to seeing what you can do with it.

I'm at work tomorrow (mumble grumble) then I have the entire weekend to myself along with the house! I really want to get this turret complete and start on the running gear.

Looking real great Dupes!  I have built Tamiya StuG III Ausf B which looks pretty similar to yours except for two boxes in the rear.  Are those just for storage?   And I don't see antenna holder on yours.  That's another difference.

That was the first StuG III that I ever built. The old 'Wittman StuG III A' Dragon Imperial Series. I recall doing a bit of research on these 'A' versions and reading that the 'A' started out as training vehicles for crews but some did see action. Not much difference visibly apart from them rear boxes on the fenders and the escape hatches behind the running gear would have been originally welded shut, so I read at least.

A chap built the Wittman one which was featured  in one of the magazines and added escape hatches with weld detail and painted it in the early Grey/Brown German scheme. It looked VERY nice indeed. The kit didn't come with hatches though(?), he sourced his from the spares box iirc.

And they're on! Last time I did a panzer III/IV chassis I used Tristar's clickable indy links...they're far superior to DML's Imperial Series indies.

Heading down to the basement to throw some primer...hope to put on a basecoat tomorrow.

                                    Tigerman,you are correct. while in tow the force pulls the front down compressing the front suspesion because there is no power turning the drive sprocket..Also I made the suspension fully articulating,including the shock which extend and retract.
