I had a huge win this morning. Last night whilst working on my SiG33, I tweezered launched a tiny part into the air. I work outside, at night, on deep pavers, right near the back lawn. On the way to my van this morning, I had atoken look around, and found it on the lawn! I am the King of the World!

I am going to order a new barrel. The detailing is going well, too. I might post some pics to show what I altered or replaced.

I'm jealous guys. I'm waiting patiently for AFV's Pak 40 to hit the store. So many group builds, so little time. I may have to skip the M1 build, haven't even started. Argh. Get better Zokissima.

Phroosh. You build outside, on pavers, in the dark?. One comment - build inside a tent, cause you are gonna be searching the ground forever for some tweezerpulted parts.

Zokissima, I haven't done a panzer grey vehicle in acrylics, I usually use Humbrol. However, a while back at one of my club meetings, they did a demo of preshading. The guy used Tamiya Panzer Gray as a base, then used a Lighter Tamiya gray (Neutral Gray?) mist coated over that. After the dark wash it looked great. I was planning to try that on the Krupp Protze and 3.7mm I am building.

Glad I'm building this combo. I just realised that the grey clashes with the tiles and carpet in my house. Should make it easier for me to find dropped bits.

I might be game to try that grey approach on a build too, Peter. That sort of subtle variation is a skill I would like to develop.

Zokissima, It certainly was!Big Smile [:D] Get better soon, mate.

THanks for the input, all!
Hmm, that's an interesting idea petbat. I definitely was not going to shoot tamiya german gray directly, as it is too dark. But preshading with it might work.
Also, as tigerman said, the MM panzer gray is good. It's very close to tamiya neutral gray.
I think I'll shoot preshading with tamiya german gray, then try a part with a layer of tamiya neutral gray and MM panzer gray side-by-side for comparison.
I'll talk to the guy at the LHS this weekend. He built quite a few models in the simple gray scheme, so I want to see just what he did.

Not as slow as the progress on my Azimut Mack NO truck, Matt! In other words, NONE!

My wife had to have an operation on the female plumbing, and so I am house dad as well as bread winner for a while! The kids love the novelty, but it doesn't leave for a lot of time to glue plastic pieces together and declare it a vehicle. Maybe over the weekend ....

Peter, as it gets colder, I am going to have to find a different place to work. I live with a couple of mates, so I am trying not to monopolise the kichen table. One of them does woodwork, so we are thinking of ditching all our landlords stuff out of the shed and working there!

Zok, keep asking around, then make up your own German grey technique! I would love to see some step by step of preshading.

Larry, I hope your wife is okay, and that your kids don't tear you into little pieces. Otherwise we might have to have a Larry Dunn group build!

Matt

The weather in Queensland means outside building wouldn't be a prob. It's the constant swatting of Mossie's that causes bits to go everywhereBig Smile [:D]

Was going to start the 3.7mm yesterday, but my wife's grandfather has taken ill and she wants to see him over Easter. So it was pack up the car ready for a quick getaway tonight. Gonna be a 14 hour road trip there, spend a few days and then 14 hours home - no building while I'm away. So Have a good and safe Easter all, I'll catch you in a week.

Weather is getting better here on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, which means I could sit on my deck and build ....

But I have enough trouble with parts zinging off into a black hole in my work room, I'm not gonna try to rescue one by following it over the rail of a 3rd story deck ....

ddayomaha, those are some nice dio's.
Speaking of which, since I still didn't even think about starting to build (except the flak carriage) I'll at least start on the drafting and planning of the diorama. Since the demag and flak 43 aren't kits that are overwhelmingly large, I'll probably go with a 25cm X 25cm base. I know that the gun will be deployed just a little off-centre of the piece, and will be in a shallow trench. I got the inspiration from Call of Duty. If anyone's played, it's the mission that you have to blow up all the 88mm flak guns, except I won't be using an 88. First time attempting to model camouflage netting. I had some really great input on the dio group about that, so I have a few things I'll have to experiment with. Also after this GB is over, I'll FINALLY get around to taking pics of a few of my models to post up.

A couple shots of the PaK 40 for the GB, needs weathering yet. The tow vehicle (251/1 Ausf. C) is underway. The Dio is planned out, just need a big enough base - about 12" x 15".

Derek,
Great job... I am building the ol' Tamiya gun as well.
What kind of a dio idea do you have brewing...?

I am planning to show it being hooked to the tow vehicle. It will be located in it's firing position behind a wall, sandbags or bushes with a couple crewmen holding up the trail and the 251/1 backing up, rear doors open. Some spent rounds laying around and a few live ones on the halftrack floor, gear tossed in the back. I'm gonna have to modify some figs but I don't think that will be too hard with all the ones I have around.

Oops! There I go thinking again!

It would only be an improvement!

I got my Azimut Mack prime mover started last night -- I took the cab out of the box, noticed it was cracked in several places, fixed the cracks, cut off the resin plugs, sanded it off, and called it a night.

Hopefully future building sessions will be more productive ....

Well, I got started by organizing myself. I do have a little glue spread, but not enough to show off.
I built a simple web page J.Ratz' Towed Gun Build to start showing pictures, it is still under construction & isn't very pretty.

The M59 is a good kit -- but I have a couple observations so far.
-- The metal barrel fits loosely in the plastic portions & needs a jig to ensure is straight.
-- There oughta be lands/grooves in the barrel (I haven't figured out how to fix this yet).
-- The breech block has all the threads but the breech part doesn't -- makes it hard to show breech open (haven't figured way around this yet either).

Anyway, this will be fun ....

Hehehe funny how you Aussies are looking forward to the cold and we in the States are done with the cold, you can have it, keep it, and just warm it up before you return it Black Eye [B)]

I will post pics soon, and link to a gallery of sorts when I have time. The ICM kits are so far so good, I REALLY like the detail on the horses and limber!!!

Progress report:

I have already assembled the 88 including the bogeys and the figures. I have bought the base for the dio. Will apply the first coat of paint probably tonight.

Sure, please do! The build ends July 1, so you've got lots of time. I'm trying to end by June 6, for the 60th anniversary of D-Day, but that's just me.

I'm building a big resin prime mover from Azimut, the Mack NO truck, and an 8" howitzer, the AFV Club kit of course, circa 1944, ETO. I started on the Mack, but then I realized how silly that was -- it's a serious project, and I don't always have time to build. So I've started the howitzer instead -- and so far so good. I have the entire barrel and breach portion of the gun built, and am starting on the cradle now. Not bad for one night's work -- I will try to have both the truck and the gun done by June 6, but if I have the gun ready by then and the truck done by July, I'll be fine with that.

In a perfect world I would build the truck first so as to know how to position the carriage for the gun, as the gun will be displayed towed. But this ain't no perfect world! Anyway, welcome to the build and have fun.

Allright, I started work for this GB. So far not much, but managed to about half-assemble the flak 43. Haven't touched the demag yet. It'll probably be a few days before I get around to that. The 43 is actually a very easy build, not much involved in it. The italeri kit is of fairly decent quality, and so far I haven't had any problems.

Big Smile [:D]WWHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!Big Smile [:D]

I just finished my first placky kit in over twenty years! Start to finish in just over one week is definitely a personal best - I am notorious for half built projects stashed all around the house. The get-it-done incentive provided by these GB's is just what i need!

Anyways it's a Tamiya Pak 40 built OOB depicted in its classic firing pose with the OOB crew. Believe it or not, I was around when this kit was first released and I 've had the kit lying in a cupboard for a long long time waiting for the incentive to get it built. I always wanted to do one more-or-less like the original kit review pic I saw way back when and this GB gave me the push I needed Smile [:)]

See my version here: http://gn15.ozforces.com.au/military.htm

Gotta go - I've got a 250/10 sitting on the back burner for the small AFV GB......

Cheers, Andy!
