Gamera the zero is on my old japan corner  with good company , all old kits, but oldest kits (before 1990) are all destroyed or injuried and as you used as spare parts Surprise

for the badge and name like  'Imperial Japanese Group Build 2011-2012' amd with this name the more appropiate image seems this

Smile or not?

Bsyamato: Very cool, I don't think I have anything left I did that far back, it's all broken up and in the spare parts box. If I'd done anything as good as your Zero there I would have kept it though. Yes

Len: Cockpit and figures look good to me, the transparent parts are kinda thick and I'm not sure how much of it you'll be able to see.

Guys, keep up the advice on which badges you like or don't. I'll see about narrowing it down to three or four this weekend. Tigerman suggested 'Imperial Japanese Group Build 2011-2012' as the logo on the badge. Anyone have anything they like better?

Got some more done on the "Emily"....

I painted the "Baka Brothers"....under a magnifying glass...cripes they`re tiny!

And this is what we`re calling a cockpit...

That`s all for tonight. Next is masking up the clear parts which will take me a month...I`m not liking 72 scale...too small for my meathooks....Big Smile

Thanks for looking,

Len

Gamera nice winning oscars YesYes

TREYZX10R good progress on zero, never used salt tecniques, but to me looks good. Yes

NeedBeer the zero cockpit looks good Yes which version is of the zero? wings are not rounded at the end Huh?

edit:

just show for now my only ww2 planes with hinomaro on , an old matchbox kit i built in 1993 (the only reason i'm sure for the year is that i write on the base Whistling )

one of my first attempt to improve a kit

a terrible error i found after years was the ailerons bended in the same way Bang Head

Len thanks ,I'm on the fence about it really. I tend to be a bit cautious with new techniques ,tend to think it could've been heavier .

Needbeer thats looking awesome!

Cliff thanks, like I said it could've been more heavily applied from the ref pics I've found but for my first attempt I'll live with it.

Thanks guys!

Trey: Looks good to me, I'd think the plane would chip more around the leading edges of the wings and the fusilage where the pilot and ground crew are climbing around. Which is exactly where you did most of your chipping. I like it. Yes

Needbeer: Looking good, sharp work! Cool

Kevin: No worries, you're certainly welcome to post the Rex here if you'd like just to let us admire her. Am looking forward to the Ki-94, don't think I've even seen the model of it before.

FInally got the cockpit and bomb bay assembled and painted, hopefully will be able to lay down the wash tonight and then get to dry-brushing and detail painting this weekend.

Hello again,

Sorry for the delay.  I had to finish a Hasegawa N1K1 Rex prototype since it was more than 50% when the GB started.  Anyway, I'll be starting my RS Models Tachikawa Ki-94-II this week.  I'll keep you posted with progress pictures.

Hey Needbeer, I thought the build was 1/32 until I saw the first post. Great job on the IP.

Here's my progress so far ...

Have washed & weathered the cockpit, quite satisfied with result here

Reasonably happy otherwise, joystick looks a bit thick, seat belts to be flattened, piston rods tidied up or removed

Fuselage fitted well, liitle bit of sanding to do

Thanks guys, I figured everyone had seen these when I posted them on the aircraft forum- but that was a year and a half ago. Anyway here's a link:

/forums/p/125807/1264130.aspx#1264130

Reasoned: I picked up the Finemolds kit since they're the only company that makes the late model II / model III. And the Hasegawa kit is as a far as I know the best made. I used to do two models in the same scheme (Spitfire/Typhoon) (Sherman / M10) at the same time. Since I already had the paint mixed and in the airbrush it was just easier to do two at once. I ended up buying a new brush with a colour cup and it's a great deal less trouble to mix the paint for it so I don't do it anymore.

The kingdom of Thailand was 'invited' to join the Greater Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere... or else...

Gamera

I had both kits in my stash and I figured that since they were painted simular I'd just do them both at once. Saved me some time on the cockpits but the outside was different- topside IJA green/dark tan and bottom IJA grey/aluminum so I didn't end up saving much work in the end Sad.

Yeah but it is kind of interesting building the same subject/scale from two different companies to compare the details, fit etc..  I did that with the Revelogram and Tamiya P-51D.

So the 2nd bird is Thai markings, wow, never seen that before, very cool.

Reasoned: Thanks! I had a blast building them.

The Japanese Ki-43 is by Finemolds in 1/48. Pretty good kit, went together without any major problems. The kit is a Ki-43 III but there really isn't much difference between it and the late model Ki-43 II I built it as. The stacks on the sides of the cowling are different from the Ki-43 I and earlier models of the II.

The Thai kit is the 1/48th Hasegawa. One of the best kits I've ever built, it's one of those stick a tube of glue in the box and shake kits. I don't think I used any putty at all and it came with nice droppable flaps (which I painted backwards at first and had to redo them) Dunce.

The Nichimo kit should built up really well, I've always liked their stuff.

Got my Oscar out of the stash and gave it a nice warm bath,...should start up tonight...I noticed that the instructions called out for Nakajima green interior...I thought these had Aotake cockpits?? Any thoughts??

I'm not sure but I thought the Aotake was for wheel wells and flap interiors but the cockpit was "Nak GI".

I'm not 100% sure but this sounds right to me. The Ki-43s I did a few years ago I used Nakajima green in the cockpits and aotake for the wheel wells and flaps.

Cool Those look great!  Just curious, what is(are) the kits and what made you decide to build two?  I have a 1/48 Nichimo Ki-43 in the stash, not the height of cutting edge detail but hey, the price was right.

waikong

katakana is the phonetic alphabet used for mostly foreign words.

Kanji is the adaptation of the Chinese writing system, hence is not really an alphabet as each word is symbol

Hiragana is the alphabet used for Japanese words which Kanji is not used.

I'm would love to join this group build also, but have to wait to finish some stuff first before over committing myself. I like the charging samurai as as badge also.

You're right, I'm getting old and I don't remember as well as I used to Sad

Be glad to have you when you get a chance to jump in, no rush.

Gamera

Very cool, I took a few courses in Japanese but am not very good at it. We learned hiragana and some kanji but no katakana. I gave up when I realized it would take me forever to learn enough kanji to read Japanese.

BTW: You could enter the Breguet in Tigerman's Blitz in the West GB if you wanted to.

one of the 3 alphabet are only to write foreign words, but don't remember which ..

For the breguet i'm wishing to put on , if i finish at least 4 gb models in few time i'll put on, but not for now Sad

Bsyamato: Hmmm it would look cool to have the Kanji characters on the side though we'd probably be better to keep the main label in English.

Hope your Ki-27 gets there soon. I hate waiting on stuff. HmmTime

Tigerman: Thanks! If I can grab someone with some art skills maybe they could add a rising sun behind it.

John: Nice work, she's coming right along. And as to first badge I assume you mean the female samurai?

Think I'll go back and add numbers to the pictures.

Thanks!
