GOOD GRIEF!!  I`m an hour into my Hasegawa "Emily" kit and it BAAALLLOOOWWWSSS!! There`s more flash than a lightning bolt on the parts and injector pin marks in obvious locations so must be filled. That`s only the vert and horizontal stabs...already tired of sanding...YIKES! BUT...I won`t quit...I`m done b!+chin` for now...back to work....Bang Head

Ok I've started the Zero

Just waiting for the few parts in Tamiya detail kit, otherwise its out of the box

Instructions suggest metallic blue for cockpit interior, wheel bays etc - all my research show modellers doing this in green/brown - I've done mine in Cockpit Green IJN - any suggestions?

Thank's Cliff ;

As it happens I now have a second kit to add to your GB ....Surprise

I was searching around Hannants web site this morning looking at 1/72 scale military vehicles (Korean War and IDF) and I saw Hasegawa's Toyota Starter Truck . I remember seeing a pic of this vehicle with an aircraft in one of my old Hasegawa catalog's (1984) and I went and found this pic...

So I added the 1/72 NakajimaKi-84 Hayate (Frank) and the Starter Truck to the shopping basket .

Big-Z: I've a couple of monster kits in my stash if you don't have time. I'll pick one out when I finish the Judy.

WheelsUp: Sure will put it down now.

Helo John: No problem at all, a quick build is fine, I know how many other kits you're working on too Wink

I pulled out the FineMolds Judy last night and looked over the parts. The cockpit panel is just a decal and the wheel wells are too shallow. Still I'm aiming on building her mostly straight from the box. Think I'll add some Eduard seatbelts but that's it.

Hi Cliff ;

It's 9.00pm Sept 1 here in Oz , so I thought I would make a start on the Academy 1/72 A6M5c Zero ;

I hope I don't cause any offence but I was thinking of a quick out of the box build for the Zero , perhaps a 7 day build .

I'll clean up the cokpit tub parts and give the interior pieces a few coats of metallic green .

I decided I'm going to do a second build alongside the Zero. You can also put me down for a 1/48 Hasegawa B5N1 Type 97 (Kate)

Looking forward to starting...

Kaysee: I'll see about getting some photos, I put on a heavy brown wash in an attempt to cover up the white and thought it looked aweful. I've been looking at some ideas on putting some dust on the tank that might cover most of it up.

Steve: Yeap, other than learn and draw inspiration from each other the only main objective is to have fun! Big Smile

Hi Gamera

This is my first GB

I guess the idea is to swop ideas, assist fellow modellers, improve skills & knowledge

Apart from your time frame & subject matter what other rules or objectives are there?

Steve

Kaysee....I just finished one of Finemolds Japanese 1/35th scale tanks but ended up having the final flat coat go white and ruin the model. I'm trying to figure out some way to fix it without repainting the whole thing.

Got a pic of it? Might help (no promise though) if i can see the amount of damage done  Sad

That's why i rarely put on a flat coat. I once gave one and it showed the edges of the decals that before had blended in well with the tank's camo. Can you believe that??  Surprise

Kaysee: Sure no problem,I just finished one of Finemolds Japanese 1/35th scale tanks but ended up having the final flat coat go white and ruin the model. I'm trying to figure out some way to fix it without repainting the whole thing. I thought about doing another tank but I'm doing one for Tigerman's Battle of France GB so I decided to go with the Judy. If I get the Judy done in a decent time I might even pull out one of my monster kits. Toast

Reasoned: Wish they'd been a little more response there but the Val is a fine choice. I've got the Hasegawa kit in my stash and am looking forward to seeing yours come together.

Almost to the deadline folks Yes

Kaysee: .......I think it would be cool to have something different (I'm hoping when Carlos gets done with his floatplane he'll do the Gojira/Godzilla figure!) So I'll go ahead and put you down - we'll see about the extension when we get to next spring, if you don't finish on time no sweat. Wink

WOW, thanks soooo Much !!  Yes  I'm forever grateful !!

and a Godzilla even?? now that would just be spectacular!!!.

Kaysee: Thanks for the interest. I don't have any problems with armour it's just that everyone has decided to go with aircraft. I think it would be cool to have something different (I'm hoping when Carlos gets done with his floatplane he'll do the Gojira/Godzilla figure!) So I'll go ahead and put you down - we'll see about the extension when we get to next spring, if you don't finish on time no sweat. Wink

WheelsUp: Welcome aboard!

Guys sorry for the lack of updates on the weekends but my computer at home is acting strange.

Traveller: Very cool! Since they were willing to copy the Me-163 Komet I see no reason if the war had went on they wouldn't have copied the Natter. Great looking model and nice work on the stand and the dio. Thanks for sharing!

I know that the rules say it must be less then 50% built, but I have too much on my plate to start this group build. To keep you all inspired, here is my take on a Ba-349 Natter, IJAAF 1946. Please excuse any faults, this is the best I can do. Fun build too, no pressure, nice and easy subject, fun trying to get decals though. Thought the ones I used were too big, then I put the boosters on and you cant see them nowHmm

Kevin: Sounds good to me!

Jason: I have to ditto what Kevin already said. I too have only built their 1/48th kits. They're older models and not up to Tamigawa standards but still not bad kits at all.

Guys, one week to go!!!

Reasoned

Okay guys, although it will be a while before I can start this GB, here are the choices (all 1/48):

1)  Hase & Nichimo B5N2 "Kate"  (got two so I could use the torpedo from Nich kit for the Hase kit for Pearl Harbor)

2)  Hase D3A1 "Val"

3)  Nichimo Ki-43 "Oscar"

4)       "         Ki-45 "Nick"

5) Tamiya J2M3 "Raiden"

6)    "         Ki-84 "Frank"

What's your choice?

I was in a hobby store today and they had a bunch of 1/72 Arii kits.  Does anyone know what these are like

Jason

I've built a couple of Arii 1/48 kits over the years.  They can be a bit plain as far as the cockpit interior is concerned, but I've never had a significant fit issues.  And I think they are pretty accurate,  but then I'm not a rivet counter - as long as it looks the part...  Can't say as I have any experience with their 1/72 kits - Sorry

When I built my Arii Ki-61 I was also building the Hasegawa kit and using the Aires Ki-61 cockpit set in the Hasegawa kit so I just modified the Hasegawa interior to fit the Arii kit.

OK a few small decisions have been made:

For the group build I think I will start by tackling my RS Models 1/72 Tachikawa KI-94-II (lots of flash and HUGE election pin TOWERS), nice looking kit otherwise.  I haven't yet decided to finish it in overall prototype/trainer orange, or like the box art 'Green over Orange'.  Kind of leaning toward the Green over Orange - just to be different.

Also I might tackle my AZmodel 1/72 Kawasaki KI-78 'Ken'.  This kit is actually two kits in one box so one will probably be prototype/trainer orange overall and the other 'what if' Green over Grey with Red tail (again like the box art).

I'll post a few pictures of the kits themselves in the next day or two.

If time allows we'll see what else might land on the work bench.

Happy modeling to everyone,

Kevin

Len: I've looked at these resin rivets on decal film. Expensive but if I can find the right size and spacing they ought to work.

Reasoned: I dunno, I like all of the them! The rest of you guys will have to vote Wink

Gamera

Sounds good to me. Maybe the rivets are out of scale, I don't know but I like the look of them. I was curious because one of the kits, I don't remember which one now the area the decals go down is devoid of rivets. Just a blank area, so I guess I'll have to figure out some way to put the rivets there so it doesn't look strange.

I stand corrected Sir! Just looked at my kit and saw the smooth spots for the decals. So be it...I`m not driving myself nuts trying to rivet in "jeweler`s scale"...lol.
