in this case for sure, with a brass rod in the rotating point you have the attach as the real plane, and plus can easy manage the plane in painting stage. I'm sure seen in the forum a similar work on a revell tornado , not dsure but probably in the .. variable wing gb?? Hmm 

The exact rotation point is already on the piece...  out of all the molds not seems so bad, i'll try to get one Stick out tongue

Well I have the brass rod, I'd just need to find a way of drilling out the edge of the elevator. I'll look around for that Tornado.

Overall the exterior of the plane seems very good. The cockpit has lots of opportunity for scratchbuilding though! And the other trouble spots - the landing gear bays are far too shallow, and the gear themselves seem to have lots of detail... but lots of flash to clean as well. Sad I may model this one in-flight, depending on how I feel about cleaning up the landing gear... Hmm

Indifferent Indifferent Indifferent WOW! Yes, not sure I need to get that detailed in this case, but that is the perfect way of using rods to reposition the elevators.

I have made some progress on the 1/72 C-337, but desater struck when my airbrush went bust! SO if I complete this little Cessna it will have to be brushpainted for now.

It is a very basic kit with little detail so I don't have to many WIP pix of it.I joined the fuse sides and glued on the tailbooms to the wings.

A little filler was needed to get the seems OK.The clear parts were a very good fit inside the fuse halves, impressed!

PS. a Mirage F-1 inflight looks just right, the under cart on it doesn't work for a model LOL!

Here is the C-337. Loads of filling and sanding to do still.I wanted to do a Rodhesian AF C-337 "Lynx" but to many mods will be needed, so I will stick with a "normal" 337.

I installed the tops wings and engine first,then made sure the bottom wings lined up evenly.

Install the lower wings,then carefully install the struts.Easier than it sounds.Everything fit together quite nice.

One more thing.You might have to trim the right rear lower support for the engine.Mine interfered with the wing.

OK OK, this is an OLD build Airfix. After all the other threads I have seen this AM, I decided that I needed to post something that included, well, A MODEL AIRPLANE!!!

DH Tiger Moth in 1/72, built oob probably 10 years ago, my first biplane, no rigging. I used the included pilots because the cockpit detail was "slightly lacking"! Wink

Not a hijack Theuns, you're just providing some research material for me!! I see what you were talking about with the overspray on the markings. If my kit decals are able to be salvaged, the overspray would actually help! I'm still leaning towards the 3-colour scheme though.

This afternoon i did a disaster with the scout Crying triyng to heathform a new clear and tiny canopy i ruined the original and no new-ones came out Bang Head x5

i'll finish up the rest of the kit and take after a new master from wood. This actually is the only way i see

Vance, you might find something on this link you can use if you go for the SAAF F-1 or as we call them here "Vlamgatte" it means Flame rear to keep it civilizedWink

I have mailed you the pix of the SAAF colour codes. You just need to fine the nearest ones in model paint.Also don't forget how fast paint tends to fade here in Africa, so a perfect match doesn't matter.

The "old school " colours as they are known here were a high gloss ,so was to keep clean, the matt is a tad more difficult.

Our F-1's were not on permanent depolyment to the Angolan theatre, only when major ops were on the go.The SAAF had complete air superiority till later in the war when Angola got MiG 23's with some highly skilled Cuban and even Rusian flyers, then we had to do all our movements by dark. For some or other reason the Angolan "comrades" didn't want their planes to fly at night.

Some might find it interesting that the buff of the old sceeme was very "yellow" and in the African bush yellow is very rare.It looked good at the factory in France though LOL!  

We had listning stations that intercepted radio coms between the Angolan/Cuban pilots and their ground stations that they could very easly visually pick up the SAAF planes with the "yellow" and the SAAF changed to the later colours.

On your box art there is a SAAF F-1 AZ with the central bombrack. This is correct , the SAAF did develop a 14 bomb config for the F-1 AZ but it suffered allot form the very hot and high conditions we have here. Most of the contry here has a density alt in summer of arround 8,5 to 9,5 thousand feet on the ground

The F-1 pic I postes was in the colours of the first F1 CZ " Le Spectre" to be painted like that and carries the Angolan kill mark on the nose. The pilot who flew this plane had two confirmed MiG 21 shootdowns with the cannon only!

Sadly we have no more F-1's, but the Grippens are OK!

Also interesting you will see many droptanks are silver (actually NMF) as there was usually no time to paint them - they were discarded before rolling into the attack.Southern Angola must be litered with old tanks! 

 

And that concludes the lesson for today boys and girls LOL!

Vance, here goes.Hope you can make out the FS codes. If not let me know and I will post them for you.

The top righthand one is the old "green/buff"but the pattern on the brown/green (left and centre)is the same as old one, except the green/buff had hard masked edges and the others were feathered approx 1" wide

May I join in please?  I'm part-way through two Air models: a Sopwith Camel 2F1 special edition (Culley); a Grumman Gosling/Widgeon.

With the Camel I've mated the fuselage halves, cut away some flash, and sanded away a lot to get it to fit.  With the Widgeon, I've also mated the fuselage halves, and added in the side windows.  Primer has shown that it needs more work.  I've also mated the mainplane halves, which need work!  Hope this isn't too far down the path - WIP photographs to follow if OK.
