Well,... paint is on my build and dried up... were 18 hours and a lil something in now...still going great

Im not as happy with the paint job as I wanted to be, but oh well.

I got the paint, landing gear, and some weathering done today. 

Tomorrow - decals, weathering, flat coat.

I also got the prop ready, but that will have to wait until I put the shark mouth on, I want going to do the shark face, but since I have a few errors on the cowling, I'll use that to cover them up. And it looks mean!

I painted this free hand with my airbrush, the results weren't as good as i hoped…

When paint dries, I can do landing gear and touch up paint and stuff like that, if I can get all that done today I might be able to apply decals tomorrow!

Initial construction is finished. It is now 7:02am, saturday morning, 13 hours in. So that leaves me with a day and a half to paint and weather; riiiiight on schedule

The Ehkranami (applique armor) really pops at you on these kv's.

Red Baron the rain shouldnt give you trouble with the rain, will take a while to dry though. Can't say about the Humbrol as I have never used it.

Kermit I have another helper I can send ya That is if the cat needs help too Good start on the KV buddy.

Well the rain doesn't look like its going to stop…

I got both the landing gear done and the prop, with copper brake lines of the main landing gear and I'll be working on the tail wheel. Then I'm going to test the humidity in the garage to see if I can paint in thier.

I'll be painting it in OD & NG, XF-62 & humbrol acrylic 196, with a few drops of black.

Razordws this build group is a blast thank you sir for hosting it again. Now that my nerves has settled down and my eyes have uncrossed I will jump in next year for sure

never had that problem before with enamels on flexible tracks but these tracks seemed to be very "rubbery".  Was this a mistake??   Is there a way to strip off the enamel without damaging them?  

I don't have any experience with armor kits, but the material you're describing sounds a lot like the vinyl I've dealt with in some kits.  If that's the case, I've always used Tamiya spray primer with enamels or acrylics over it without any problems.

As far as cleaning off, soaking in Simple Green has worked well for me.  It doesn't attack vinyl or plastic, and it'll take either enamels or acrylics off if they haven't been on too long.  Just soak until the paint's loose, use an old toothbrush to scrub off, and rinse.  You can also filter the paint out and re-use the stuff a few times.

XF-62 is perfect for OD, but the Humrol196 may be a bit too light for Neutral Gray. Darken it a bit and you'll be fine. Keep the gray neutral in tone and avoid it getting a blueish hue. A drop or two of black should do the trick.

I want too paint my P-40 in OD and grey. But my mum doesn't want to drive my to the LHS, and I'm not going to walk. So all I have for paints that are close is Tamiya XF-62 and Humbrol acrylic 196. Would these work fine?

Starting the P-40N this afternoon!

Planning everything out, the wheel sells have very nice detail, so no scratch building. The cockpit walls have no detail. But the all the other parts take up the rather dull looking cockpit like the seat parts, joystick, sights, etc.

I probably will need filler though, but luckily I bought the quick 10min drying stuff.

Im also going to try and airbrush the camo freehand, except for the anti-glare panel, that will need masking.

Hey guys, I managed to fix the flat coat boo-boo and complete the Patton on Monday night, but had a problem with the tracks.  I sprayed them with MM enamel Flat Black, but they never dried.  I waited 24 hrs and as of last night they're still extremely tacky....never had that problem before with enamels on flexible tracks but these tracks seemed to be very "rubbery".  Was this a mistake??   Is there a way to strip off the enamel without damaging them?  I won't be able to check them until Sunday as I am out of town until then.  I hate to bug when the GB is mostly done and I didn't even make it on time, but even if I finish this when I return it will still be the quickest I've completed a model!

I think I've decided that even if I kick everyone out of the house, I'd need 3-4 days to finish up a kit due to the dry time I need for coats of paint, gloss coat & decals. My "actual time tally" stands at about 7 hours right now, so I'm happy. (About an hour puttying & sanding, probably a couple hours painting & cleanup) I'm in the middle of some minor house renos right now too, which isn't helping anything I suppose. Anyway, I'm still glad I'm in on this one, nice to see me build something up in a short timeframe. I should have my finished pics Friday.

Flechettes... and people thought the MG-42 could bring a world of hurt on an Infantry charge like in Saving Private Ryan or Enemy At the Gates opening sequences... With that Ontos firing all six at once in volley fire (if thats possible) can you say hamburger?

And the beehive round? a 106mm shotgun with a 300m range... that will put some hurt on any infantry assault.

How about the M-10 Ontos with SIX 106mm "shotguns"?

However, are you sure the 106mm APERS rounds filled with ball-bearings or are they flechette-rounds? I know 105mm Howitzer APERS will nail the bad guys to the trees behind them with flechettes which, basically, are nails with fins...
