Can't wait to see the finished-build roundup for this one!

Mostly done for the night...and mostly done with the build, too. Want to spray some light coats of Tamiya Smoke, maybe add a tad of battle damage, but other than that, this thing is ready for the shelf.

Pics tomorrow! Alien

WOW is all I can say geeze !!!! The builds here are fantastically amazing, each of them. Bow Down

Razordws you have convinced me already, now I have to have one of those La 5's man !!

Kermit yup tis me attempting to fast build a slow build build Stick out tongue And very worried about the deadline too. Sorry you couldnt get yours started but I will be watching next weekend too. Course I might not get mine finished till then LOL.

OK, well, ummm, here are my WIP pictures, the first one is at the 12 hour mark, and the second is at the 24 hour mark.

Seams werent too bad but there were some mismatches on the nose and main gear that took some time. The gear is all fixed but I still have some work to do on the nose, and I have to scratch some exhaust stacks for it. If you can believe this the Censored dog ran off with the sprue the stacks were on.

Back to work I go

Major body, suspension & engine components have been primed.  Chrome parts are spending the night in a bath of Mean Green (generic Simple Green?).  Now the next decision is what color for the body-silver, metallic red or white?  I'm open for suggestions....

This is a very old kit-after looking at the instructions in detail (probably should have done that earlier) I noticed that there are no radiator hoses shown for the street version...interesting.  Makes the drag version a better choice...

I hope to get the body painted in the am before heading off to church and the chassis & engine after church....we'll see though..

Stik, looking good.  Gotta love a MUTT with a big gun.

Here's a pic of the Eduard IP.  All that's left of the kit IP is the center section.

Now the kit piece.  I've added one piece of PE to the center section.

This self adhesive PE as Eduard calls it, is kind of a pain in the keester.  Some parts that should have it, don't, and those that don't need it have it.  As I said earlier, I don't know if it's worth the effort because they will be hidden underneath the IP coaming.  Also some parts that should be painted, aren't.   Don't know what's up with that.  Will post pics of the seats whenever they get done.  I'm going to follow Stik's lead and have dinner.

Dupes, my wife and youngest daughter love this guy...

Bufflehead, I wana see that Patton done! Seems like there are several of that classic popping up on here lately....

Owl, you are a brave soul incorporating resin an a 48 hour build... Toast

Well I kicked off my build around 1130 hours PST here. Last night was out of the question due to IPMS Chapter meeting where I consumed far too much coffee and as a result of which I did not wind up falling asleep until sometime between 0445-0500 this morning. That is some potent coffee...Indifferent

so first up are the box and sprue shots...

then assembly began with the engine... a very nice little assembly just needing some wirig and plumbing to make it really shine...but since there are only 48 hours here...

Then installation of the engine

afterwards began construction of the lower body, suspenstion, drivetrain, exhaust. All I modified was the exhaust by drilling out the end...

More progress pics after I eat...Smile Burger

Dave, you get those things finished yet?

Dupes, the Raider is looking good.  In answer to your question nope, it's 1/72.  To add some difficulty, I'm playing around with the Eduard Zoom Pe set for it.  Some pieces, such as the instrument panels, have adhesive on the back so you don't have to use superglue on them.  In 1/72, I don't know if the effort is worth it, but I'm giving it a shot.  Each IP will be about 9 pieces each when they're done, and the seats will have about 15 pieces each.

Centhot, you're probably already through masking, but I cut thin strips of tape to go inside the framing and then fill in the void with more tape or masking solution.  Your Wildkitty is looking good.

Owl, looking forward to more.  Keep it up.

Need Beer, keep it up.  Looking good.

Andrew, I have that kit in my stash.  All I need is the Eduard PE dive brakes and I'm good to go.  Looking forward to seeing yours done.

Bob, I know you'll do that old kit justice.

If I missed anyone, keep up the good work. I had to step away and let my eyes refocus after building those IP's.  Will post pics when I have something pic worthy.

OOOOOOOK. Started yesterday at 6:00 P.M. sharp right after dinner. Not a lot of parts in this one, but the two big ones (top and bottom hull) don't particularly want to go together. That's the drawback of having two huge parts!

First, the obligatory box contents:

And what happens every time I open up a new box of plastic:

Entire first evening dedicated to assembly...as usual with a 48 hour GB, I feel that if you aren't firing some primer or a base coat by the end of the first night, you're in trouble! Filled all of the seams as well as I could. With more time, there are a couple more ejector marks and fit issues I would have addressed. Pics:

Last thing before bed was the first coat of 99 cent Walmart spray can black primer. It's cheap, it's easy, lets me pre-shade the entire build, along with letting me get out of some of the more troublesome decals (coming up).

Instead of doing 6-inch long curved striping, I decided to mask it all off. Different widths of Tamiya tape and pinstriping tape let me do this:

In prep for a loooooong spray session covering up all of that black (really the only drawback to a black primer coat):

While I was spraying that, I put some gloss black on the canopy, guns (in prep for metallics), and the stand. I wish every kit came with a stand! I may have to see if Revell will sell me some more...after peeling off the masks and slapping on the non-gray parts, that puts us here:

After this, I sprayed two small circles of future for the decals that I wasn't able to make masks for - two hexagons-in-hexagons that I might have tried to pull off with more time...but not today! Hopefully that will be dry enough shortly for me to apply them followed by a flat coat. Some detail painting to do after than, then it's on to weathering!

Hopefully I can do this again tomorrow night after completion - if not, Monday morning it is.

Good luck everyone on finishing! Big Smile

Dave - those look great! Love the little La-5.

Ernest - can you figure out any reason why they would have molded the hull in two halves?

Lewbud - is that 1/48 scale? Wow!

Needs beer - can't believe you banged out a NMF that fast...nice. Yes

Editing my pics right now...posting them up in a few. Where's everyone else? Usually by this point there's about 25 pages of WIP shots?

Hey all-great work here....even more impressive given the time constraints.  Especially those of you who are building multiple projects....Bow Down

I'm going to start tonight-going to prime the parts tonight and put the chrome items in a bath of either bleach or Simple Green to remove the plating-way too heavy.  Guess I'd better declare a build...

I'm going with the lower one, the chopped top T...not sure if I'm going the street or drag route...we'll see.

Cheers

Centhot

Good luck with the Patton!  US or foreign colors?  Israeli colors mean removing the commanders cupola though.

Just basic U.S. OD Centhot!  Didn't realize that about the commander's cupola on Israeli Pattons...thanks for the info!  Should come in handy if I build another!

oops, I know I said Id post pix in the evening, but it turns out i went to bed instead! Anywho, here's what I got done yesterday:

Here's the kit. An old Minicraft/Hasegawa with a resin uprade

With the additional cockpit detail, I'm gonna want to show it off, but whats this?? Closed canopies?! That will have to bi fixed....luckily the kit came with two of em.

success!

while I had my saw out, I cleaned up the resin pieces:

heres what the kit gave me in the way of detail....lets scrape it off!

here is the cockpit all detailed up, Its hard to get pictures of something so small, but I tried anyway!

glued into the fuselage sides, here's the IP

then, To glue the fuselage sides together!

I added strips to the wheel wells

while the glue was drying, I went ahead and built these:

that's all for my first day. Today will bring final assembly, a bit of sanding, and some paint!!

Earnest:  that's exactly what these weekend builds are all about.  Grab a kit and join the madness.  Propeller

Sorry all for reporting in so late....work/life is a bear!!Smile  Anyway, THANKS razor for letting me join the GB!!  Everyone is doing a great job so far!

Here's my entry:  Monogram's 1/35 M48A2 Patton that I grabbed last week at Michael's with their 50% off coupon!!  Its an oldy, but with the relatively small parts count and limited detail, I'm pretty sure I can get this done in 48 hrs!

My official start time is 9:00 AM today (Sat - California time) when I cut off the two bottom hull halves off to take pics:

First time I've buillt a tank kit with two bottom halves....I'll assemble them and probably have to fill gaps and sand later today!

Its going to be a fun filled 2 days!!  Fortunately I'm off on Monday so today's late start time won't affect me much!!

Wow, such good progress!  That Sabre looks stunning.  I must admit, first, I don't like masking, but, I've still not worked out how to mask curves, like the windshield of the WIldcat.  Something that still confounds me....  Anyyway, 18 hours in, here's the progress

Looking good there, guys!

Okay, official start time for me will be 12:00 pm.  I realized I was too tired last night to get a good start going before I'd be going to bed, so I decided to take advantage of the fact that I don't have work Monday to postpone tings a little.

I'm going to start with painting the interior bits before getting sub-assemblies together to minimize visible bare plastic at the joints etc.  While the paint's drying from that, I'll be running a few errands including a quick stop at the LHS with my son ( a chance to watch for gift ideas, Xmas coming up and his birthday this week ).  I'll have pics up later today while the putty's drying.

Tried some preshading/ weathering , not sure its going to look right, also pilot tube has just snapped off, where is it ?

Gloss, decals & wash tomorrow

Needbeer - Not bad, for a sand grouper anyways :P

Dostacos - cant wait to see the final product

vetteman - Interesting trainer, enjoy the mayhem

razor - looking tops, any plans on weathering?

Well here I am at 24.5 hours. Getting there, the only real issue I can see is this thing has a heap of decals...

Oh, I don't know about this one?

I have the right plane hobbyboss 1:72 P-40N, but I won't finish. If I can find a weekend with absolutely nothing on… I think I can do it?

Way to go Dave!  If you're that close, it counts in my book.  Here's where I was at approximately 0200 CST 11/19/11.  2x 2000l drop tanks assembled.  Main and nose gear bays installed in lower fuselage, rails for drop tanks and actuators for the flaps installed on the wings.  Vertical tail and avionics hump assembled on upper fuselage half.  The hump has two vents which must be glued in before attaching it to the fuselage, major PITA.  Fortunately, the carpet monster was asleep or goofing off somewhere and I was able to find them when dropped.  Painted the gear bays with Tamiya fine white primer, and I remembered why I prefer the gray.  Anyways, here's some pics.  I'm hitting the sack.  See ya'll later this morning.

Well, deadline is here and I'm not quite done.  EmbarrassedWhistling  I wanted to push myself and see if I could get two done, maybe next time.

I'm very close though.  A couple more hours tomorrow ought to do it.

The M20 is pretty much done except for the detail painting on the tools, lights etc.  I had to replace the kits light guards with a PE set from the spares box as the kit ones crumbled when I was trying to clean the flash off.  The kit decals seemed like they were too big for some reason so I had to improvise with the markings a bit.  Other than that I think it looks pretty cool.  It is a lot bigger than I thought it would be for some reason.

The La 5 just needs it's landing gear assembled, a few paint touch ups and a clear coat.  I need to let the tail decals settle overnight before I can do the clear coat.  They weren't settling into the gap between the tail and rudder so I cut it and it curled up on me.  We'll see what it looks like in the morning.  Considering how old the decals are I think they did great.

Good builds goin on here guys and gals.  Centhot, the landing gear on the Wildcat was usually painted whatever color the undersides were.  If you're doing the intermediate blue over white, then the white would be the way to go.  Guess I'll toss my hat into the ring.  Start time 2300 CST 11/18/11.  Obligatory start pic.

I don't think the Rafale B is a particularly pretty aircraft, but from certain angles she is a stunner and can be down right intimidating.

Well one and all its time to see if I can keep up with the big dawgs, my first Weekend Madness group build is underway. I have to say though that the builds going so far are amazing, just don't know how you all build so fast and well. And some tricky builds at that Bow Down

So without further pageantry my build has started at 7:30 PST and here are the box art and sprue pictures.

Not done much work on the Wildcat, except to research the color of the undercarriage, and boy that's tough!  I've seen light grey, black, blue, metal, and white!  In the end went for white, with the inserts in lower fuselage color, same as the wheel hubs.  Final bits added to the cockpit, and painted.  Now for that lovely task - masking.  Yuck, then, blu-tak, top coat, decal, and done!  Oh, and paint the tires.  Another fun job...
