here is the Mossie I will be building, the Mark II night fighter all black if possible I want to do a buff overall then silver before the black. From what I have read after the plane was build the painted in a silver color before the finish color so I would hope I can do some paint flaking of the silver and then down to the cloth covered wood. we will see.

I will MOSTLY be finished, but the nice boxes with the no step X are not on the decals which I have ordered and will add when they arrive

Finally went to bed at 1am this morning

At the risk of them falling off decided to put on all the bits except the wheels before painting

Primed the Sabre here, only to reveal lots of seams that need sanding (might not have the time)

Now for the metal coat

Centhol - Looking like a nice relaxed build, almost as complicated as my egg plane last year  Geeked

Kugai - Love the  veritech, hope it doesn't come with Minmay's singing Bang Head

Pepper - I remember my first bearcat as teen, I can still smell the humbrol enamel's I used when ever I think about it. Embarrassed

Vance - Come on you know you want to post a piece by peice account. Clown

A hint from personal experience, if you enlarge the holes where the locating pins go into the wings, you'll reduce an ugly gap.

Thanks, although, so far, so good, except some one small bit.

18 parts if you use the closed canopy (which I am), or 19 parts open or two part canopy (windshield separate).

Yes there is, it's called the Frank rule.  It's okay though.  I count over a dozen parts in this kit.  ClownWink

Isn't there a rule that says a kit has to have more than 12 parts to qualify?Stick out tongue  Just kidding Centhot.  A hint from personal experience, if you enlarge the holes where the locating pins go into the wings, you'll reduce an ugly gap.

Ooops - I forgot to say that I'm not going to build the Lockheed Electra ... as the paint scheme calls for 6 different shades of enamel, I'm concerned about the humidty and its effect on the paint ...

The Bearcat can be painted with acrylics and I've yet to experience any 'weather' issues using them ...

Wow Razor, good work, nice builds, two even!

The Helldiver should be interesting.  I'm guessing that's not the PE special edition?  Interesting scheme on the Sabre, looking forward to seeing how it turns out.  An older Airfix kit can be a good choice, being simpler, or a bad choice, if you need a pint of filler!  Still, the Hunter is such a beautiful aircraft, and still in front line service today (Lebanon).  Good luck with the Macross, don't know much about it.

Good progress Konig!

So far Owl, the fit is reasonable.  Not used any glue yet.  The larboard tail plane has a slight gap, but, I can live with that.  The underside isn't a perfect join, but I'm not going to fill and scribe it.

In one hour, I sprayed the cockpit, joined the bits, sprayed the underside, and cleaned it up a bit.  The rear of the underside was rough, needed some sanding, whilst someone in China left a great lump of sprue gate on the cowling, which needed to be removed.

After that, and a 6 hour break, I sprayed the props yellow, and have dipped the clear parts in Future/Klear.  Not sure yet how to mask the underside windows, due to their tiny shapes.  Maybe Micromask?

Hi Everyone:

I've decided to go with the 1/48 Fb Bearcat ... we're having off and on showers and the humidity is sky high, so painting would be a problem ...

Here's a photo of the box and bagged kit ... I'm going to start Saturday night right around 9 PM and hope to be finished up by Monday night at 8:59 PM ...

Everyone, have a great and hectic weekend ...

Alright!  Good to see others breaking sprue.  Propeller

I got the paint on the La 5 this morning.  I have since given it a coat of future and will let that dry while I work on the M20 some more.

Only 12 hours to go for me!  Whistling

Here's my first WiP pic's. Sorry about the quality my camera went on strike until I recharged its battery so these pics are from my phone

3 hours work so far (ok played some games here and there while waiting for glue to dry).

First two are cockpit in construction, third is just after laying down the base cockpit colour.

Okay, here's the box...

IMG_0214.jpg

And here's the parts...

IMG_0214.jpg

Form the "15th anniversary" sticker, you can tell this thing was put out a while ago, since the original Macross series came out in Japan back in '81.

My plan is to paint it up in the two-tone gray paint scheme with orange-red and black trim seen in Macross Plus.  The "decals" that come with the kit are actually foil stickers, I'll be painting the insignia on it ( relatively easy, since Bandai was kind enough to include the locations in recessed outlines ).

I'll actually start working on it this evening after I get my son over here for visitation.  He's talking about joining us and building either the Spirit of St. Louis or Earhart's Electra.

Alright, obviously I'm still at work today but I can upload by box / sprue shots right!

There she is - the classic box & slightly curled decal sheets - I'm crossing my fingers & hoping I can use the Swiss crosses. I'll have to do a test with something off of the RAF sheet.

And the parts / sprue. The shapes look good. Undercarriage & cockpit are a wash though, I will definitely be posing this wheels-up & canopy painted over from the inside. Looking for ward to starting tonight!

Andrew, looking forward to that build as it is in my stash.  I'll update the front page.

I'm calling it a night.  Spent the last couple of hours working on just the La 5 and it is pretty much ready for paint in the morning. Still got a gap under the canopy but I'll fix that in the morning.

Dave, thanks!

Ok going to go with the Academy SB2C Helldiver. Personally I would prefer the tiger But have to go house hunting tomorrow (Saturday) morning and since I would have to do the zim on the tiger I figure not enough time (considering the time for workable tracks as well not gonna happen)  :(

Will put some pics up soon

Quick update.  I'm 23 hours in and I am not as far along as I would like to be.  Feel like crap tonight and having a hard time getting motivated.  Anyway, here is where I am at.  Hope to get a couple more hours in tonight before bed.

The La 5. major assembly complete.  engine is painted and ready to go on with the front cowl.  Need to mask windows and fill some seams before I can paint.

The M20 is looking more positive.  Just have to add the suspension and wheels and touch up the paint before adding the fiddly bits.

To late to join? (Didn't know until today if I was moving this weekend or not)

Can build either an academy 1/72 Helldiver or Tamiya Porsche King Tiger (with metal barrel and workable tracks)

Guys, I switched to acrylics paints a long time ago.  Painting inside the house is not an issue as there are no noxious fumes and as long as I don't make a mess everywhere the wife never knows.  Acrylics also don't have issues with humidity and they dry quickly which helps when you are doing speed builds like this.  You just have make sure you wash all the greasy fingerprints off before you paint and be careful when you pull any masking off.

Drying time is not the issue with humidity for me and my airbrush. It is the buildup of moisture in the compresor and "spitting" of said mosture during the airbrushing that is. Yesterday when I airbrushed using MM Acryls and their thinner, it had a noticible odor, no more or less offensive than any enamels I use.  I will continue to use both types of paints, but I much prefer enamels just for reasons like no need for extra surface prep and care in masking removal. Better going on, more resistant to coming off. Wink Airbrushing in the bathrooms here is out due to lighting and space factors. So weather will be my big deciding factor on a go/no go for this weekend.

Dave,

Sorry for the delay in declaring a build, but I still haven't decided....my weekend schedule is going to be hectic at best.  Probably won't get started until Saturday evening, finish (at least that's the plan) Monday evening.  Next weekend is out, so it's either this or nothing.
