Nice work Stik, Buffrin,Deattilio!
I guess I've gone about as far as I'm gonna with the Has P-51. Paint is MM aluminum buffing metalizer with MM metalizer sealer on top, and Tamiya acryl OD. Did a little panel work with some black tempera poster paint. It's OOB except for the resin seat. I'm not real pleased with this one, compared to the Tam and Revell Mustangs built previously. If I were going to start this one again, I'd probably cut and drop the flaps and elevators.
Well, it's on to the TF-102 conversion. I can see that it's going to be a real challenge to my limited modeling skills. I'm not sure it will be completed by Memorial Day, but we'll give it a try.
Thanks, Ken
Kbuzz01, your Mustang finished nicely. My attempts at NMF do not look near as good, with more practice due shortly with my B-36 for that GB.
I rummaged through my albums and scoured them for shots of my LOWRIDER to start working various gouges and bruises and scrapes she earned and will be wearing in 1/35. The pics give a good idea to how wore out she was and the challenge in replicating the scrapes, fade and mismatch of colors is awaiting me.
WIP:Trying to get my hobby stuff sorted - just moved and still unpacking.

Nice work all! I will be posting some pics of my UH-1N in a minute, more to follow.....
Semper!

She's about 90% complete at this point, just waiting to build the DAS mounts (Defensive Armament Systems), i.e., gun mounts, bomb racks, etc. Eventually, "Stinger 88" will have a GAU-17 minigun (with the new brass barrels) on the right side, and a GAU-16 .50 cal and LAU-68 7-shot rocket pod on the left side. Enjoy!
Semper,
Another view. I'll get more pics this evening, but thought I'd post my latest progress.

Wow! Excellent work Ski! Detail and weathering are great! That looks to me like a pretty tough build.
What was your connection to the "Stinger", onboard crew?
Ken
Thanks Ken! "Stinger" is the callsign of HMLA-267, and "Stinger 88" was our callsign on November 27, 2007. It was my first flight as an Aerial Observer/Gunner under training, I got "winged" several months later. I still have a copy of the flight schedule, and a few pics of 159202, so I thought I'd picture her as she appeared that day. Sadly, she now resides in the Boneyard at AMARG/Davis Monthan
Thanks for the kind words!
Ken and Ski, those are some beautiful builds! Are you both calling them done? If so, I will add them to the front page here.
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!
N is for NO SURVIVORS...

usmcski, that is a beautiful job on the Huey. There is a derelict hulk sitting in the supply lot on Camp Del Mar that I keep forgetting to tote my camera along to capture.
You don't happen to have a few 1/72 LVTs on display at the AMTRAC School, do ya?
stikpusher Ken and Ski, those are some beautiful builds! Are you both calling them done? If so, I will add them to the front page here.
Yup. It's not my best, but it's done.
usmcski, I did have several LVTs in the museum, an LVTA-1, an LVT-3 and a set of four LVT-4s marked to represent the four Amphibian Tractor Battalions that landed on Iwo Jima. They were taken out when we were doing some work in the museum and currently reside in the XO’s office but will eventually make their way back to the museum.I made some progress on my AAV, the UGWS in particular. I got the tan base coat applied along with some pre-shading to replicate the exhaust stains that were typical on the pre-RAM/RS tractors. This weekend I plan on applying the green top coat. In the background are my 1/72 LVTs, most of which received an initial coat of primer along with the in-progress 1/100 C-47 and Mi-24.
I knew it! I had the privilege of seeing your four LVT-4s firsthand in the XO's office. When I was stationed at Del Mar, I used to volunteer at the AMTRAC Museum. During several conversations with the school XO, I noticed the 'Tracs and was immediately impressed, great job!
Looking forward to seeing how your tuna boat turns out, keep up the good work!
usmcski, We haven’t been putting much work into the museum since building the Japanese machine gun pit. Hopefully these little LVTs I am working on will make their way into the museum as well. Doubt they would fair well in a move across the country, especially if I was to trust TMO to pack and ship or even subject it to potential of the girlfriend’s or cat’s well intending paws. Don’t know if you were around tad over a year ago when we got a Huey to land on the ramp at the battalion for a family day. Interesting sight.
I got my UGWS painted and sanded couple spots down to show some wear. Weathering should flatten and slightly darken it.
Tuna boat is looking GREAT! Can't wait to see it complete, nice work.
I missed the Huey fly-in, I was with IMEF at the time and was probably finishing up my year in OEF. By the time I got back to the flightline, all the Novembers were gone (we're straight up Yankee only now).
One of these days I have to build a current AAV, so far my armor builds have been WWII only. If/when I do, I'll be sure to stop by the ramp and get some reference material!
Ken, your P-51 is added to the front page. My apologies for slowing on my duties here.
Deattilo, the LVT is coming along great. I am looking forward to the final results. I know the guys in the AMPS chapter here in Orange County are talking about taking a visit to the Amtrack museum there at Pendleton.
Ski, I don't know what last detail(s) you plan on putting on that Huey, but I am sure it will be great. Keep up the great work.
OK, this weekend, I really will get some progress done on my Vulcan track. The Verlinden dry transfers that I ordered to do the bumper codes with arrived so I will be having a crack at those and then getting to work on the weathering.
usmcski, I loaded a couple pictures from the Family Day of the Huey on the AAV Ramp. Let me know if you decide to make it down to 21 Area and you’ll be able to take pretty much any pictures you need. Must warn though, I only have couple more months at AAS before I retire to the 1st CivDiv. I’ll be attending Spartan to attain my A&P to begin my next career.
stikpusher, The group is more than welcome to stop by the museum. If you let me know ahead of time I can schedule to make sure there isn’t a PME or something for the time the group will be on deck.
Great pics, thanks for sharing!! I can't tell, but that BuNo is either 159206, or 159202. If it's '202, that's the plane I modeled! Must have been a fun approach to the compound, never done THAT one!
deattilio, I will pass that on to the guys in charge there... I just show up for the meetings At best, I can only show up to six a year due to my work schedule.
And now back to our regularly scheduled build. Oh what a PITA to use dry transfers for bumper numbers... alignment is a real beast to achieve. But under a layer of weathering I dont think it will be too noticiable...
5th Infantry Division (Mech) 1st Battalion 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment
Bravo Battery, 2nd Platoon, 3rd Track
I also did some detail painting on the lights and tow cable. I am gonna add smoke and clear red over the appropriate tail light lenses and clear over the headlights.
More progress today. I airbrushed on a coat of Raw Umber, followed by a coat of Raw Sienna onto the tracks, running gear and abit on to the areas of the lower hull.
and the bumper codes now that they are"dusted" a bit...
Really pretty, Stik! That paint job is too complicated for me - I'll stick to simple aircraft. Speaking of which, I'm just getting started on the TF-102 (did I say something about simple - scratch all that) and have posted on the Berny GB page 9, so won't repeat it all here. Anyway, it's underway and I should have it finished in a year or two. What? Ohmygosh - Memorial Day 2012!!??
Thanks Ken. The simple paint jobs are not much fun though... LOL! And this one is easier than the MERDC stuff that was so prevalent in the early days of my career. That TF-102 looks like it is gonna be an interesting conversion... And it would be a year or two away from completion at my build rate.
More WIP on the Academy M998 HMMWV kit. I'm trying to attain the look my truck had as one that was originally NATO 3-color but had endured countless repaints of desert sand after field exercises, NTC deployments, a trip to Desert Storm and a return trip to Kuwait in 1992. Even after all those repaints, the sand always came off after trips to the wash rack and there were always missed paint spots where the paint booth crew never bothered to reach.
I've been rather lazy working on this truck and lost interest when I joined a couple of other GBs and started building my more usual 1/72 scale armor. I still haven't decided on whether or not to use the resin wheels. The vinyl tires look to have a seam where the injected vinyl meets opposite of the sprue attachment point. I have a feeling the tires will split at this spot in the future.
I would not worry too much about the Academy tires. I built mine over 10 years ago and they are still fine... unlike my Dragon BTRs and BRDMs... I'm glad you got back to work on this kit. I was starting to wonder about some of the other builds here. What color are you using for the Sand? It looks very light in these photos.
Looking good, Rob, nice work! Those tires look pretty rugged - just don't drive her too fast!
I've finally got started on the TF-102. Almost finished with the cockpit tub. Although it's not quite accurate for the TF, I took 2 Eduard PE sets for the F-102, modified them to fit the TF instrument panel. Think it looks a lot better than what came with the conversion kit.
Now, onward to the hard jobs.
