Count me in one this build, not sure what exactly but it'll have wings and be in 1 48
I'm in... Gimme a day or two to tell ya what though...
Hans and Nathan- Welcome aboard!
Due to popular demand (ok only one person asked for it) I put the official badge on the first post. Based on feedback I believe we picked the pin-up one? If anybody wants to use the other one, feel free.
stik- Don't judge me, I never claimed to be a WW2 expert! But between living in Guam and getting back into modeling, my interest in it has certainly picked up a lot!
Doogs- Sorry, I didn't mean to leave you out in my comment about floaters and mud movers. I was only including those who had decided what to build so far. Procrastinators unite! ...Tommorow.
Sheesh, this build is making it really hard to wait for my Christmas presents....

.. so many amp in few space
rtoo speed makes ugly results, too relax don't make results
Nope, no judging going on here Sub. I can only imagine living on a famous piece of WWII real estate, although I have visited a few spots. The closest I get on a daily basis is the Pacific Ocean, a couple miles from my doorstep and near an area that Japanese I Boats operated briefly in the opening weeks of the Pacific War. I neverunderstood why they did not try a sustained submarine campaign off the West Coast like the Germans did off the East Coast.
and yes, that pinup GB badge is, in the vernacular of the era, swell
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!
N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Was thinking this cause its already in the stash-
But I also have hasegawa's f-4 and saw these decals-
But either way i have to finish this first-
Should be done with the arado by the start date, hopefully i can choose something soon
Decided I'm going to go with my Tamiya 1/48 F4F-4 Wildcat
I hope to try my hand at my first AM detail set for my Airfix Spitfire.
I found this one, but its made for Tamiya. Any chance it'll work? I found one reference in a forum I came across while googling it that said yes, but I'd like to be sure.

Although the Airfix kit is in a new box, the kit itself is around 40 years old. Personally I wouldn't go to the trouble of detailing a "behind the times" kit but, as you say it will be practice for a first time detail set. No doubt the eduard set doubled the cost value for this build.
One review of the kit states a decision to work on interior detail will require some thinning of the walls. You might be able to get away with just trimming the instrument panel sides, but I don't know for certain.

Jack
Well, even with all the problems I see with my Tauro kit I think I will build her.
Count me in with the Tauro MC 202 Macchi.
I'm still in with a SBD from VMSB 232 on Guadalcanal in September of 42.
Sheesh, I seem to fallen a little behind! Time to catch up...
stik- I'm still kind of in shock about living here. Just the other day I was waiting to pick my son up from school, and I walked along the base of a cliff where Japanese caves are still visible. A nearby sign says that hundreds of Japanese hid in them and engaged US Marines in fierce hand-to-hand fighting. I never thought I would see anything like that in my lifetime... Here's a couple of crappy photos I took with my phone:
Sorry about the OT guys, now back to 1942:Nathan- Good to see something from the Africa front on here!Jailcop- Updated! Another Wildcat, excellent! Do you know what theater/battle?Spiralcity- Updated! Looking forward to your Italian job. Do you know what theater/battle? I guess there isn't much option, but like I said, I don't know much about Italian stuff in the war!jbrady-Welcome! Good to see we have the Cactus Air Force covered!
chopper- I never did ask you what theater/battle your giant Stuka will be.
Did I miss anybody?
Rev,
The 202 was stationed in Libya in 42, it will have markings from the 10 Gruppo C.T. with nose markings of 4 Baracca.
No smoke rings on this bird, she was olive drab on tan, or dark green over sand, either way she'll be painted correctly.
North Africa 42
Does anyone have photos or a good link to the macchi engine?
will search on some italian site Spiral ,soon some link
Nice shots Sub revolution
I found an Eduard detail set for airfix, but it's for a mk I/IIa. Though the mk VB is not for airfix kits I think I may stick with it.
The kit is in at the LHS, hopefully I can pick it up today though I'm still working on a different kit for the airfix group build.
Also I'm waiting for an inter-library loan for some research material. So far the most interesting part of this build has been learning more about history.

Thats the exact bird I will be building, I doubt mine will look that good... lol
I think Im going to change my build, Im getting sick of doing things with wings. I looked through the stash and I found this kit:
http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=37009
There is an option for a 1942 piece.
That's cool! So are you going to do some kind of diorama with it?
sub revolution That's cool! So are you going to do some kind of diorama with it?
I might try something, Ive never painted figures before, but this one almost screams to have figures with it!
Ok, you're updated! I did notice it is 1/48 scale, so if you wanted to later you could probably do a setup with it next to a German fighter. That might be interesting.
I also have the Academy P-40 Aces of Africa front, might be able to do something with it being straffed I wont build the P-40 for this GB though, I think Im already over committed with other GBs.
Sub, if it's cool with you, I'd like in on this GB. Had a look thru my stash and found a neat lookin' Hasegawa 1/48 Ki-43-I "Oscar". I have three color schemes to choose from for this guy from various decal sheets, and they're all dated '42. Right now I'm leaning towards MSgt. Satoshi Anabuki's mount, but Maj. Kinshiro Takeda's aircraft looks intriguing as well.
Mike
"We have our own ammunition. It's filled with paint. When we fire it, it makes pretty pictures....scares the hell outta people."
Roster updated. Do you know what location/battle the schemes would have been in?
As for me, I got my Christmas presents, and definately thinking the Sturmivok is what I will be doing. Will put up some pictures later.
Thanks sub! I'd have to do a bit more research on the two schemes I mentioned, as they only state "late '42" and "Oct. '42" respectively. The third scheme I spoke of is a bit more specific, that being 64th Flight Regiment Maj. Tateo Kato's aircraft, spring 1942, Burma. In all honesty, I'd be happy doing any of the three schemes I have to work with.
Definitely looking forward to seeing that Sturmovik - gotta be one of my favorite WWII birds - easily in the top three !
OK sub, did a little digging, and found that all three I mentioned were based in Burma in '42.
I'd like to join this group build. I'm not sure of the subject, yet, but will likely do something on the ground (armor, infantry) in North Africa or Western Europe. Monty in the Desert and/or Dieppe Raid are interesting candidates.

On the bench: Tasca M4A1 Sherman (Direct Vision Type)

And........................................Go!!
Lt Smash! I don't think we have any British armor yet, unless the one Doogs is planning is. I'm not sure.
It has begun....
Looks like a lot of detail for an Academy kit. And 1/72 also! The Academy Avenger I also got for Christmas doesn't have anywhere close to this much sprue. I also like the huge number of marking options, including captured schemes. I need to do some research as some of the options have "unknown unit and date." Maybe a little mix and match as long as it looks right...
Anyway, I think this one will be a lot of fun! And yes, ruddratt, The Sturmovik is definately one of my favorites as well. Attack plane + Russian = Awesome!!
