Stop teasing with the close-ups Ed. Can you give me one or two full hull shots?

Dude! I've been working on the Roma for over a month now and haven't gotten close to the hull.I'll get there eventually.Bang Head

LMAO

I had a serious WTF moment today. I was finally assembling my bogie-wheels, when I couldn't find the front of one. I looked high and low and was about to put an APB in the armor forum for any derilect M-13/40's, when I looked under the newspaper that's on my lazy-susan, when lo-and-behold, there it was. Embarrassed So, that was my big accomplishment today. I hope to get the camo on in the next couple of days, then I can begin weathering.

Few things in life are as satisfying as a victory over the carpet monster.

Yet a few more close up shots.

Nope. The AA guns appear to be an accurate representation of the real thing.Speaking of PE,I knocked out quite a bit today.

Thanks.Patience I have, but if you REALLY want to see a master builder, check out Firedeck's 1/350 Nagato in the Ships section.

Because of all the deck fittings to go over and around,I'm not looking forward to this.

Can't say i blame you, but the candy-cane camo is such a prominent feature. Just curious, are you hand-painting or air-brushing?

So went back in with the sand colour to to fade the edges of the green.  I'm no pro with the airbrush and at this small scale most of the dark areas got the unintentional overspray.  Taking a small brush and a little Tamiya thinner, cleaned up a few areas to get the original grey-green colour back.

Jack

Looks good Jack. I go over my camo with an overspray as well.

Rattle cans with a lot of touch ups with a brush.

Also,I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the Italian Air Force for constantly bombing their own ships and therefore making this paint scheme necessary.Way to go guys!Toast

Research indicates that the large red and white stripes weren't enough to get the job done.Them guys must have really loved bombing stuff!

I couldn't leave the aft deck untouched.I hit it with some thinned down paint as a wash. That also means I have to repaint the deck fittings for a third time.Bang Head

Looking good in here gents!

Finally got that P-47 polished off, so now it's back to the Fiat!

Wing-side bracing, done!

Next up...putting 20 little triangles on these guys.

You can also see the landing gear in that pic. I went ahead and assembled it. The Fiat gear trapped the tire in a fork, and on the PCM kit that for is in two halves. I felt, hey, better to cement it now while I can get a really good Tenax weld. Strut and wheel hub are both supposed to be metal, so painting should be easy enough. And the tires spin freely, so painting and aligning the weighted side down won't be issues at all.

Ed: That is going to look great. I don't see how they could have missed those markings?

Bsyamato, good to see more updates from you.

Doogs, glad your back at the Fiat. i'll have to check out the jug.

I need to get something done, I'm not that far off of weathering. Need to lay a camo down. Hope to get an update after that.

Congrats on the award, very worthy?

Love that NMF on her. I need to start mine someday. However, I say that about all my planes.

The P-47 is one of the warbirds I've never built.I shall attend to that some day.Hopefully it will look as good.

Current progress on the Roma. The stripes look good, but need a ton of touching up as expected.

How indeed,could you miss them???

Doogs - grats! on winning some hardware on the Jug - sweet build  Yes

Ed - really like the aft deck colour.  The red/white stripes looks like you've got a good handle on them.   At least you don't have to put them at both ends of the ship.

After my last update did a controlled pin wash of a mixed blue grey.  No protective coat beforehand, so touched up via dry brush, but just used the base colour, no white added .  Then applied layers of glazes using an ochre shade from MIG.  The tops received about two maybe three coats, I think I did about four on the vertical sides, but only one on the bottom part where the tracks will be running.

The whole thing was then brushed with Future.  After about 30 mins I added some Testors gloss to the decal areas.   About 2.5 hours drying, another coat of future to the decal areas and then those were placed.  The red "1" was from a left over M13/40 kit (likely old Tamiya kit).

The license plate at the rear  will need some fixing.  No clue what the "B" is doing there (Squadron book indicates this was used on armoured cars, B = Blindo) - all photos  I've seen is a 4 digit number in black.  I will also need to add a flaming red grenade in the upper right corner.

regards,
Jack
