Sorry for no updates but too busy at work and just try to finish my actual workbencher airfix zero .

Next week could have more workbench time.

 

I have a bunch of Citadel paints that are 15 years old and are STILL as good now as the day I bought them.Not the case with the newer stuff.

Those decals really set it off Enrico. It's going to look fantastic when completed.

Enrico - the decals look great on that machine, really brings it to life.
Doogs - I've got to admit, that Fiat has some great lines, I think I'm appreciating them a little more watching one get built up. (  Something else to my "watch list"!)

The Italians really made some unusal and beautiful A/C back in the day. The kit is pretty nice too.

Enrico - man you're flying! Those decals are wonderful - I can only hope mine go down so well as yours (though they're Cartograf printed so they should). I'm thinking about "whiting" the squares where the fasces will go on the upper wings, as you did. Since I'm doing the insane splinter scheme, I could easily see it showing through.

Vance - Do it, man! I'll admit, the PCM Fiat has been a challenge in places, but it's been one of the most enjoyable builds I've ever undertaken. Even if I wouldn't do the flaps a second time around...

@DoogsAtx.........is better to paint the white first of all...then mask the circle of fasces....and then go with the camo.I have done the contrary ,more difficult,because I've understood too late that the decals not cover  well the irregular camo......Ciao Enrico.

Good to know...think I'll do that tonight while I'm working on the underside. Masking should be simple since mine's got the square emblems. Just copy the decal sheet, cut to size, mask!

Interesting way of doing the preshading with all the streaks on the wings. I don't think I've seen that method done before.

Got the idea from a rather more involved version over on the LSP forums. Lots of random streaking in the direction of airflow (and gravity on the fuselage sides). That instance used multiple different colors and built up all kinds of depth on a war-weary Ar 196. I figure the Fiat G.55s weren't as battered, and the underside wouldn't be all that filthy or faded out, so stayed simple. The upper surfaces are going to get a lot more variation. 

Highly recommend checking out the Arado, though. Absolutely stunning and the intense shading works well for it:

Although only a few builds being presented here atm, everyone is doing top notch work and hope I can muster the same quality...

Ed - that simulated wood look to the base stand is just terrific.
Enrico - superb display of airbrush discipline with that camou.
Doogs - really seeing the sleek lines of that G55 once you got the primer on, and thanks for introducing those pre-shading streaks technique, new to me as well.

Got all the road wheels on now, except for the double spares that will be stored on the sides.  Still have a jack and pickaxe for the rear and the tracks to go.
Of the ten Italian tanker figures in my stash,  only one (from Hornet) actually fits inside the vehicle.   With the tank having such a low silouette it will be a bit tricky placing the hands on the top surface somewhere so they don't appear to be floating in mid air.  I will likely add another two figures standing outside.

That looks like a PITA.Speaking of PITA,the hull halves mated up poorly.Had to carve open the deck to apply some pressure after glueing them together.I'm wishing that I would have gone with the waterline version about now.

I'm not giving up.Never that.I've heard other modelers complain about the fit of the upper and lower hull.Now I really know why.

However,parts fit here really sucked and there isn't a damn thing I can do about it without tearing stuff apart.

It does look like other parts will hide most of the gaps.AA turrets installed.

Granted I'm not a "ship guy", but I don't see anything that looks off, and like you say, the outer assemblies will hide a lot of that area anyway. (And if your typical "audience" is like mine, you will be the most critical eye to ever see it!) Looking good!

Thanks,but that gap is brutal.But it looks like it will be well hidden by everything else.

It looks consistent enough to have been done on purpose though - do you have pics of this area?

Jack - that thing's looking great! Tiny, but great! Perhaps you could hack up and reposition the figure's arms to a more natural position?

TD - oof! Whatever hesitation I had about doing waterline with the Washington, you've erased it! Agree with Vance, though, that the gap won't be all that noticeable once everything's in place.

Not much to report on the Fiat. Had a ton of work I had to do this weekend, so I didn't get out to the garage until 12:30 last night. I thought I'd try out some Montex masks (ordered several for ridiculously cheap...something like $2.50 per from Poland). They SUCKED. Probably a millimeter too narrow or too short all around. In other words, unusable, and I had to mask the canopy a second time. Then I masked off to paint the flap internals, and by the time I looked up, it was 2:30. Eesh.

I'll do better tonight, but it looks like I'll be ready for painting the topside just around the time we  come in for 3 straight days of rain.
