I'm not a participant but I've been dropping in to see how thing are and I've go to say you guys are doing amazing work here!

Eric - the Semovente is looking really sharp!  I like how you painted the bogie assemblies separate from the hull.  And the DO look like TRON cycles!!  I'm looking forward to the finished build!

doogs - man that camo work is just fantastic!!  The Centauro is going to look beautiful when done!

bsyamato - very nice scratchbuilding with the engine!

jack - that CV3/33 sure is small, but it turned out great!

Enrico - The CR.42 looks awesome!  Absolutely fantastic camo job on it!

TD4438 - glad to see some ships on this GB!  The Roma is turning out great!

So...as a sign of just how much I'm LOVING this Fiat built, I'm doing something I've never done. A figure.

Someone makes a 1/32 resin figure of Capt. Drago, whose plane I'm building. Maybe a little vignette down the road?

Gloss went down last night. Decals tonight. Landing gear's also in the works.

Don't know what's going on with the colors here - the Fiat's obviously grown too festive for the iPhone's poor sensor!

But the markings are on:

Love that camo. Are you adding a thin coat of (?) colour to blend the whole thing a little or leaving it full-colour?

And there's nothing wrong with the iPhone cam-sensor, you just need to instal an "Italian-to-english colour convertor", check the App store. Wink

Vance - not sure yet, to be honest. If I do it'll probably be a super-thinned buff or desert yellow or something. But honestly the pics I've seen of these things, they were all kept pretty clean so far as I can tell (photo quality isn't as bad as the Russians, but not the awesome stuff you see from the Allies).

Markings, landing gear and...FLAPS!

Have to say, I was hesitant going with the very vibrant interpretation of anticorrosion green, but it's completely muted by the insanity of the splinter camo.

first class finished camo Doogs Toast waiting for dirt

The fact that modellers paints perfect finish on kits and after get finished with lots of dirt it's a thing than not all can understand LOL Cool

Last night scratched the Veltro ip ,rudder pedals etc. so i can start the painting session and close the fuselage ,afternoon pictures will come

Edit:

the scratched IP

I mixed the humbrol yellow 69 and blue 15 to have the italian interior green: a mix with 78 cockpit green not convinced me, this is the first layer, on the second will change the percentage and add a drop of white probably

unfortunately both colors are glossy Sad i don't like to paint with gloss color but this time can help the incoming dirty wash

We just like to prove we can do it!

DoogsATX, great job on that splinter pattern. (I briefly thought of you on Saturday, came across a pile of 2nd hand kits, quite a few in 1/32 scale!) bsyamato - as usual, your scratchbuilt details look great.

Great work all around everyone, keep it going.  Beer

Forgot to mention in my last post regarding the discussion of the weather.  Up here in north eastern Ontario it has been balmy.  Just a few weeks ago it was -30C with the wind chill factor, but now it's the opposite with plus temps for over a week.  Today +23C so last few days been wearing shorts.

The tankette, I think, is now done unless someone can offer some further advice/criticism.  Last photo shows a top view, and you can see that the clear parts glue is still drying in the holes of the crew hatches.  A book on the subject said these were just glass covered skylights as the interior was pretty dark when all buttoned up.  On a forum I've seen it stated that these openings were used for periscopes but another disagreed saying they were too small and were likely used to display signal flags.

regards,

Jack

p.s.

while posting just noticed the heavier dusted areas have turned grey, a result of using de-saturate to match the photos to real life - just can't win.  Will not try correcting as these aren't final photos.  Still have a vignette base and some figures to add so more pics to come.

p.s. edit

Well got a call from work to come in an hour later, so I re-posted the pics without using the de-saturate in photoshop.  I also found shooting with an under exposure seemed to capture better detail and colour.

Hi all, your italian subjects make me proudly..............here my CR 42 Falco finished. This plane flown by Maggiore Ernesto Botto Commanding Officer of 9°Gruppo,4°Stormo at El Adem Lybia 1940.This legendary legless aviator and charismatic leader, used leading his group in combat, despite the phisical handicap of an " iron" limb replacing the right leg he had lost in the Spanish War..........

Italian Starfighter - beautiful job on the Falco. Yes

Also thanks for the little history, had no idea the Italians had a legless hero, just like Britain with Douglas Bader.

Jack and Enrico, awesome builds guys. Truly great works of art.

Jack, I like the understated weathering you did. How did you do your mufflers?

Enrico, that camo is just wickedly cool. Bravo.

Guys, please feel free to add the badge from page 1, and if you're ambitious, you still have 2 1/2 months to complete another.

Thanks everyone, glad you like the sardine tin.

Eric - With my stash, I could easily build another Italian subject, but am already stretched thin with other GB sign-ups.  As it is, I'm still adding some figures to create a vignette with the L3/33, so I'm not done yet.

For the mufflers, they were originally painted the same base sand colour as the vehicle (Life Color Giallo Sabbio scurro).  While working on the body I wanted to darken the mufflers to better gauge how everything would look.  I had new bottle of Vallejo 73204 Fleshtone shade (looks close to brown sienna, perhaps a bit darker) meant for figures but since it was handy and already a pre-mixed wash, I used it.  I also applied a dark blue wash to bring out detail.  I think I added a couple more of the brown washes afterwards as the mix is fairly thin (this is what is seen in the previous in-progress photos).

I did use dark and medium rust powders, but lost most of it after requiring touch up elsewhere with some airbrushed clear flat.  So left as is and just added some black powder to the ends and a liberal coating of light dust powder from MiG.

Nathan, is this what you wanted too, or did you mean the method for the entire vehicle?

regards,
Jack

Indifferent need to move on!!

Edit:

Finally near to the correct italian interior green (with the 3rd corrected layer Whistling )

with a dirt wash and a clear matt layer will look better Toast

Closing in on the end. Final clear coat's in place...still need to have some fun with the landing gear, need to add chipping, exhaust staining, aerial wire, and wingtip lights. Maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow...but soon!

Falco Magnifico!!!

Jack - some warm weather down here now too: 25 degrees in southern NB! The rivers in this end of the province are virtually ice-free now. (I need to have a peek at your work away from my office - your photo host gets filtered here for some reason! Sad)

DoogsATX - closing in on the finish line, beautiful work on that machine.

Bumpty bump.

Should have some goodness to show later tonight or tomorrow morning. I'm two wingtip lights and a painted and trimmed aerial wire away from being done!

Also, side note - I ALWAYS suck at stretching sprue and tend to go through 6 or 7 lengths before I get a result I'm happy with. Last night I stole from the sprue tree for Revell's PV-1. Perfection. First time, I stretched it thinner than I've ever managed before. It's going to look pretty great once it gets a bit of paint on it.
