That's pretty goofy, but always check those refs.

Here's a pic of my AM barrel against the kit. they key is the muzzle on the AM: it's perforated. Now I have to cut off the kit one and insert the aluminum one. Should be fun. I should have basic construction finished in a day or so. Waiting on my paint.

Not a lot of progress made on the Roma,but this was at least three hours of brush work.

That's some deft brushwork, TD! 

Feel like I've been in purgatory with the Fiat the last few nights - got the flaps and rudder removed, aileron lines deepened (not going to remove them, but the kit lines were very shallow). Still working on the elevators, but there are some kinks and bends that I can't quite get at - got a jeweler's saw on the way and I'm going to try the thread-saw method to see if I can get around the last bits.

Also, last night I finally got the cockpit and gear bay parts primed. Should be shooting paint tonight if it's not raining.

I may have to go over all that deft brushwork.I'm not diggin' the color.I have a large paint stash,but not the exact colors I need or not enough of it.I'm gonna build and paint a turret with the colors I do have before I get too commited.I so miss not having an LHS.

this roma kit seems have some piece nice paint work on the back deck

You're right Doogs, pretty sure its supposed to be like that. Heck my Macchi only has a windscreen and sides, no top to the canopy. Guess the Italians got claustrophobic in bubble canopies.

Easier to bail out that way?!?!?!

I started my Re.2001 this weekend, the office is complete and other work is progressing well on it. I'll have pictures by the weekend. So far the usual problems with a Classic Airframes kit, the extra sanding out the interiors for a better fit.

The interesting thing with the Macchi C.200 was the initial series had a fully enclosed canopy, but the pilots didn't like it. the truncated canopy version followed in the Series 2 to the completion of production. the FIAT G.50bis also started with a completely enclosed canopy. It must have been frigid for those pilots flying the C.200 over Stalingrad with the partial canopies. The force that flew with the Itailan Expeditionary force had mostly C.200's with a handful of C.202's scattered between the units present.

Quick update on the Fiat.

I've been spending the past few nights hacking my way through the thick plastic to separate the flaps, rudder, and elevators (still waiting on some equipment to get those fully sorted). I've also deepened the panel lines marking the ailerons, since they were laughably shallow. Here's a taste.

Also threw my first paint last night, 2 parts RAF Interior Green to 1 part Green Zinc Chromate. I think it may be a bit too vibrant, but there's also a lot of controversy around what the G.55 actually used, so hey.

Lookin good Doogs, Liking the paint, I think i'm gonna go for a more pale green/gray look on the Macchi. I gotta finish attaching my PE in the cockpit first.

Nice start on the G.55 Doogs. I like the color and when weathered, it will really pop.

when cuts are hard an heavy tool is needed

i resolve 90% of my mods with this "not" modelling stanley all-metal cutter. with thinner plastic sheets the only weight of the cutter is enough to cut these sheets with the hardest ones just more cuts needed .

actually no updates on the veltro but collecting some references online and some old paper reference

just need to dig among piles of old magazines

i use too the backside x-acto blade but whit too thick plastic he break easily better way for me is to mix the cuts.

TD these main guns and little artillery is great!!! i have too the roma sister , the vittorio veneto but is the 1/1200 revell micro kit

More progress on the Fiat last night. UPS brought me my jeweler's saw, which liked to run wild with its regular saw blade. I tried the thread-saw trick fermis uses, but nothing. Maybe I'm not using the right kind of thread. I finally just said screw it about sawing around the stabilizer "prongs" and used a file to remove them from the elevator side. I'll rebuild them out of styrene later.

LOL! I guess that would make me a "method" modeler?

They're actually labeled for Top Port, Top Starboard. I have weird issues with left and right and perspective (what's right from the front would be left from the rear, etc...). Causes me no end to grief when, say, wiring up surround sound, since it seems like some manufacturers label for rear-perspective R/L and others for front-perspective. Port and starboard make it a non-issue. I have enough other ways of screwing up a build without gluing the stabs on upside down!

Sucks to hear about your thumb! My night was cut short last night by an urgent summons to deal with a vomiting 3-year-old. I think I might rather have stabbed myself.
