bsyamato, that's looking sick! Makes me yearn for something more weather-beaten than a late-war G.55 that can't really justify that level of weathering in the pit.

Guys - I'm totally sucked into the Fiat build. There's this weird thing where it builds up really well, but at the same time doesn't, and where it doesn't require scratchbuilding and such, but certainly benefits from it, that I just find very compelling. Makes me want to pull down one of my other PCM kits (Macchi C.205, Spit XIVc)!

Progress from last night...covered the inner flap wells with some plastic card. Not worrying about pretty.

Also got the flaps cut, trimmed, sanded and such to the right shapes and sizes. Taped them to the wing and they look pretty cool.

Now...anybody have any tips for cutting a bunch of small, very acute-angle triangles out of styrene? This has me flummoxed. Measuring, assembling, gluing, got all that sorted in my head. Just the cutting of the stupid triangles that I can't get around.

Construction of the interior is done although haven't attached the seats as they need to be pre-painted.  There is a very detailed engine for the rear compartment but haven't bothered with it as the little vignette I have in mind will have the engine access doors shut.

Have started on the exterior; the grey pieces are update parts from Brach Models.

Jack

Doogs the cockpit is from starfighter Enrico , the veltro is out of workbench for now (more correct i am out of workbench for some day)

On my typhoon i proceeded like you till now, after i cutted a plastic stripe with the width of flaps and started lots of angled cuts , a little greater than i needed, same on the under flaps

after the glue was perfect dry i sanded and cutted excess to have the correct triangles, heres the final flaps after sanding and cuts

not all are perfect but out of PE parte don't think theres more speedy ways to accomplish the mission

Magnific work on the exhaust and tail surfacesYesYes

Good armour kit Jack! which scale is?

I'm about newbee about armours but see some new 1/72 italeri kits that wishing to buy and add here like the autoblinda AB 41 and 43 or the as-42 sahariana armed car! It's a good excuse to get experience on armours

The Bronco kit for this GB is 1/35, but I have built the 1/72 scale version of this tankette by Doc Models.  Here's a pic sandwiched between it and a Royal Tiger, also 1/72nd.

Out of the great tiger nice tiny bronco Jack, before the supply order will check also some low cost model from the east brands like Icm, Ace or unimodel (built the su-85 from UM and was very impressed for the details he puts on a little 72 tank)

I'll try a full workbench weekend tomorrow Stick out tongue

Eric - the mini cv33 was painted Italian Camouflage Yellow 3 (PollyScale #F505294).  Note this is actually an aircraft paint shade, and although not officially slated for desert vehicles, it is possible to have been used on early equipment.

I got the idea after reading an entry on the Missing-lynx forum.    A  former Italian tank commander in North Africa was asked what colour their vehicles were painted.  His reply was anything they could get their hands on, including paints from  Regia Aeronautica and captured British depots.

The photo does not give a true representation of the shade (darn florescent lights) so I took another under daylight.

Jack

I was just wondering if those turrets would more befit a cruiser or destroyer.

Thanks. I chose Armor Sand by Model Master acryls. It's rather subtle and barely covered the tan color of the molds. I was looking through my colors and noticed Desert Yellow, which appeared to be closer to Brit colors. It didn't look right. My Squadron book looks a bit closer to the Armor Sand, but darker.

Hmm...maybe I need to look into that yellow 3 - looks like what I'm trying to run down for the Fiat.

Got started on the flap detail work last night. Finally found a material for the triangle bracing - stencil paper! It's thin, plastic-coated, cuts easily, doesn't curl under scissors and holds with Tenax!

Doogs - Look'n good Yes

Regarding the yellow, I believe the Italian designation would be Giallo Mimmetico 3  ( FS23434 ).

Hi all,@BsYamato......the yellow base for Mc202-205 was Nocciola 4...Personally  I use gunze H-310 or life color UA112......Even if originally different brand had different shade....I hope to understood the discussion!!!Ciao Enrico.

Not much to share at the moment - been pushing to get my Tamiya Jug ready for paint  (there's a contest in San Antonio in ~ 3 weeks I'm hoping to maybe have it ready for). Been doing some sanding on the Fiat, but nothing picture worthy.

Although...past few days I've been second-guessing my choice of livery.

The splinter pattern looks awesome on the profile card:

But I've been underwhelmed by every physical example I've come across - both models and the real thing. There's something about the pattern that I think maybe doesn't translate too well to three dimensions.

Over the weekend I've been drawn more and more to the RLM 74/5/6 scheme:

Looking around, I feel like, yeah it's a bit conventional in that oh god how many Luftwaffe fighters wore these colors...but it really helps the Fiat's lines (and got chosen for the box art):

There was a couple FSM articles in recent past on the  Fiat G55, May 2011 and July 2010.  Both sported Luftwaffe greys.  I found this image link for some variety  CENTAURO

The monotone one is kind of neat in that you don't often see an all green aircraft that is something else other than olive drab.

On to my update...

it's getting there, all that is left is handles for the hatches and main driver's port, some tools, couple spare wheels, and of course the tracks.  Bit of an unpleasant surprise with the hub/axle piece for the front drive wheels, what  -  they have to be carved out of solid plastic.  Guess  they did it  this way to ensure the Ansaldo wording would survive the mold process.

regards,

Jack

Jack - that thing's looking solid! Not sure what you mean about having to carve the pieces out of solid plastic...but if it's anywhere as thick as this PCM plastic, I feel for you!

At the moment I'm leaning back toward the splinter. May have to pick up a second G.55 on day to do the RLM job, though! As far as the green, I really like it, but I've now got a bug to do all three Serie 5 fighters - working on the G.55 now, got a Macchi C.205 in the stash, and PCM also does a Reggiane Re.2005. Thing is, apparently the only camo the last ever sported was that same green over gray...so I'm saving that scheme for it.

Here's what I mean by adding some notes (heh, without thinking I choose Italian colours to mark up the photo).  The hub is embedded in square piece of plastic and the red portion is what needs to be removed.  Green arrow indicates the round hub inserts into the drive sprocket.
