Is there anyone else that started their kits before the official start date, besides Dupes ?

Embarrassed

Seriously though - I'm not really bent out of shape about this And I'm not trying to bust Hans' stones for having other stuff to do. I just think dupes should get credit (as well as anyone else who started their build in January).

Really, this is just me killin' time while the glue dries on the three, yeah that's right , beee-atches... THREE builds I am working on tonight....Toast  So, it's all in good fun... beside, holding my breath for so long made me dizzy Propeller

Got some progress pics on the A-4 to throw up, hopefully tonight...

Do 335

Well somehow when looking for references for my SBD, I came across the original group build that was pretty much done. I wound up reading the whole thread and the dime store approach that bondoman did on his planes got me to thinking. I remember building the Do335 and not being happy with how it turned out for some reason or the other.. So I was wondering, hmm what would it be like if I built it now but using what I would have had then. So here we go a "kick-off" pic

Yep guys and gals that is it, well excluding the can of clear matte spray. I sincerely hope to use only those tools. I also hope this doesn't turn out to look like a glue bombed disaster either. Old, old school, news paper for a build surface, an emery board sanding stick, a hobby knife, some putty and the dreaded tube glue. Since my focus is on a "now vs then" approach I plan on going more or less OOB with the night fighter version. I may apply some of the knowledge I have gained over the years as far as RLM colors, but for a kid building these back in the '70s, there was no internet and no real easy access to research materials. There wasn't even a hobby shop around where I lived back then and most of my models came from the local TG & Y store. Sadly I think the old "Tiggy" had more models than the local hobby shop and Hobby Lobby combined do today.

So the Dog is off and running, hopefully he ain't got in the cat nip and wont let La Familia down!!!

Oh..I see...you jumped the gun too....lol...just kiddin`. You`re right , it`s not a big deal...supposed to be fun , right?  From what Hammer said , it was more like he was busy than dis-interested or dropped the ball, for most people it`s family , work then fun, I`m sure you`d agree. In the last GB, when similar issues popped up, he asked for our opinions. We could take an un-official pole to see what everyone thinks. I`ll be 1st...Give Dupes his build.

Brownii- Like I said, I`m fine with it and I`m starting to think I missed a post where Hammer said no??  Anyways...It`s Han`s baby and I guess he has the final word on such things unless it`s brought up on a vote. I believe it officially started one day last week (?), have to go back and check. Again, I`m fine with it either way...I`m sure there`s lots of people who were waiting for the word and didn`t start their kits until Hammer said "GO".  Don`t tantrum too long..you`ll turn blue and have sore feet....Stick out tongue

OK, I'm gonna try to get this out before I pass out from oxygen deprivation, but I'm bouncing around so much from stomping my feet, I can barely type.... Wink

The post where dupes is 'denied' points for the build is the first post with the updated roster...

You are right, Troublemaker, the GB officially began on the 1st of Feb. However, it started when it did because Hans either forgot about the original thread he had posted announcing the GB, or he lost interest. Either way, when he was alerted to the fact that he had let things linger, he opened up this thread to 'officially' start the GB.

And my only problem with it is that, in the original thread, he specifically said that the GB would start in January. So, I think it was reasonable for dupes, or anyone else, to have started a build for the GB in that month, particularly later in the month.

Look, I know it isn't that big of a deal and I wouldn't be making that much out of it except that I'm between steps on my A-4 and my Stug III, so I need something to fill my time. Still, I've got a bit of an issue with anyone being penalized for, as the old military saying goes, "following their last order first".

 dupes:

No points for the electric Intruder? I hardly think that's fair! Surprise

If the GB hadn't been scheduled to start in "mid-January" I'd fully agree...but in this case I'm going to have to ask for some leeway!

I didn`t see anything on the thread that disallowed your intruder and, personally, I have no problem with it BUT,,,you did jump the gun. Either way Dupes, that`s a sweet looking Intruder...how long did it take you to build it?

Len

I'm calling BS on this one. Dupes didn't 'jump the gun'... Hans dropped the ball. When he opened up the original thread for this GB, it CLEARLY stated the build would begin in January. I know that dupes started his kit in January. Wasn't his fault that the GB start date got bumped due to..... technical difficulties. In fact, Hans' exact words were:

"Keep your eye peeled folks... The Offcial Monogram Mafia-Round Two (That 60s&70's Show *tentative*) will start in January 2012! But with an even better list of acceptable kits! Round 2 WILL include Post-merger Revell, Pre-merger Revell, but that's not all!"

I say give him his damn points... I'm gonna hold my breath and stomp my feet until he gets 'em...Big Smile

Did you say you put a padlock in the B-36 ? I thought it was just leftover junk inside it and took it out

Alright, so this is THE official thread?

Thinking that this GB was DOA after no activity through mid-January, I went ahead and banged out the EA-6A I was going to do...hence it's done-ness as of Tuesday night.

I'd like to join in on this, and I'll be doing a 1985 dated F-101 Voodoo, AND a 1983 dated F-86 Sabre, both monogram.  And I'll give myself a time limit of 6 months.

That expedition back into the recesses of my college days lasted all of 5 minutes before I made a full fledged retreat from an embarrassing past. Behind the 36`s in the area where all the old stuff is I found a CD of this:

Chalk it up to my younger impressionable college clubbing days. LOL!

What!? Did you get outta college last week!  If that`s classic then I`m an antique...and I`ll take on any 5 of you whipper snappers....Black Eye

Ok, I figured out which kit I'm going build.

Monogram's 1/48 F-4C. The one with the candycane stripes.

Can I get in with the Mono B-36?  In fact, that should be worth 2.... or 3!

I Found a few kits, unfortunately none of them were Monogram.

With my 36`s in a holding pattern for modification parts, and wanting to build something ... even if it was with lego blocks, I did the next best thing....

Found this nice "sealed" kit from 1968 on ebay - a Do 17Z Dornier Flying Pencil

Should be here in a couple of weeks, in the meantime I`ll start doing some research on this plane as I really dont know much about it

Count me in!

Nope, still only counts as " 1 " LOL!

HMMMMMMMMMMMM! where did I put those other old MONO kits behind all these B-36`s???????

Let me dig in here for places I havent seen or dared venture since 1999!

Yeah, back in the day I built oodles of the Revell 1/96 space kits, Apollo11, Apollo Soyuz, etc. but never one of these big ones. The Rockwell and Douglas plants that built many of these items were nearby and lots of the folks around here growing up worked on the NASA Space programs. It was so much a part of life here.  As a young boy, I got to see Jim Lovell speak at a local school after the Apollo 13 mission.
