Hans von Hammer

Meanwhile, the work on the Kaydet cockpits continues... I got some pictures ready to post as soon as the wife gets off her computer,  and I manage to get the wheelchair into the bedroom...  For some reason, Photobucket takes so long to load and upload pictures on this computer, that it drives me nuts.. Takes around 15 minutes to upload, copy the url, and paste just ONE picture into a thread on my rig.... On hers, I can post 15 pictures in ONE minute...

Sounds like it`s time to crack the seal on that wallet of yours and spring for a new laptop...Big Smile

Sorry to hear about the hip...seems alot of the vets from either Dessert Storms I know are having to have hip replacements..???. One guy at work was a marine in `91 and he had to have both replaced! God only knows what you guys were wading thru in that s$&*t hole over there. You might want to think about investing in one more tool if you`re still gonna do the bounty hunter thing...a taser...guaranteed to stop a running "Skip".

Feel better Boss....

Lotta work there, lol..

Well, gents, and lady...

Be careful what you wish for... Earlier yesterday I said I hated that the real world was intruding on modeling time too much, and that has been taken care of.. I got the next six-eight weeks to do nothing but build models...

I finally got a tip that a skip I've been huntin' for about a month was back in town, so I staked out his mommy's house... Around 0300, the sumbi*ch showed up, and when when I went to take him down (with my partner), the bassige ran through me like I wasn't there and don't weigh 230 lbs, and managed to shove me down the friggin' stairs of the apartment building at the same time, wrecking my already damaged left hip in the process!!!  I could at least walk before, but now I'm back in the damned wheelchair!

Now I gotta wait for the hip to heal, so that they can replace it...

Here are some WIP pics of my Revell Outlaw. This kit is from 1962, although it has been reissued numerous times. I soaked the chrome sprue in Wesley's Bleche Wite to strip off the chrome. I then trimmed of the parts, cleaned off mold lines and put on a coat of Model Master gloss black and then Alclad II chrome. There's a lot chrome in this kit.

It's pretty amazing the amount of detail and the delicacy of the parts in this 1962 molding.

More to come!

Are aftermarket decals OK in this GB?

Yes, as are home-printed & custom decals and  after-market & scratchbuilt parts...

Hans von Hammer

OK.. Finally got a day off (Saturday was my 53rd Birthday, TYVM Cake ) and was able to work on my first kit.

Lindberg PT-17 Kaydet

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v233/HansvonHammer/Aircraft%20Profiles/Box%20Art/LindbergPT-17.jpg

I got the fuselage strigners in place using evergreen strip styrene, and started on the dual throttle quadrants with strip and stretched sprue...

Photos to follow later today...

Ok, so I lied about them being "today".. Couldn't find my camera, lol..

But here they are so far..

The throttle quadrants are being done via the "sandwich" method.. Two identical parts are cut (inside and outside) for the housing, and the lever sandwiched (hence the name) between.. A third piece will be added sandwiching a mixture control lever and and prop lever...

Work will continue over the weekend, with the target for Sunday Night being the completion of the cockpits and closing up the fuselage, with the engine well-started, if not complete..

I really HATE the real world intruding all the time... Retirement isn't leaving me much time for hobbies...

Last night I completed the engine before bed time. I hollowed out the exhausts better than the indents that the kit had molded on them. Then I attached the intake and exhaust manifolds. All ready for a coat of paint on the engine now.

If the rules are the same as last time, AM decals are ok. The main deal is having the base kit. I know that I rarely use the kit decals on most of my aircraft builds.

Todays update:

Engine completed- I hollowed out the intake scoop with my Dremel and added some nylon mesh screen

Main rotor built

cockpit components built but floorboard and IP left loose until after painting

and all placed on the boom frame for a balance test

A few more parts to install and ready for paint.

I have a pair of 1/72 scale F-15 Strike Eagles that I was just thinking of starting.  One is the 1984 boxing while the other is a 1991 boxing.  Are aftermarket decals OK in this GB?  Both kits decals must have gotten wet and are toast!

Rob Gronovius

I'm going to have to dig out that Monogram StuG IV again. The GB kinda died on the vine and I moved onto the Tanks on Wheels GB, but I will still participate in this one. It'll give me a reason to polish off this little kit that has languished in my stash for over 15 years.

Here is a photograph of my progress on the Monogram (Revell of Germany) StuG IV. A very inaccurate kit, I am contemplating taking road wheels from a better PzKpfw IV kit. The Monogram kit has just one wheel but the actual vehicle and even the older 1/72 scale kits of this subject have the proper dual wheels.

The gun tube was extra barrel from a Dragon Panther G cut down to size. The kit muzzle brake is huge and too over scaled. The Dragon barrel was extra because that kit includes pieces for the Jagdpanther and was unused for the Panther.

The headlight was an excess part from a Hasegawa Panther G. Again, the Monogram kit part was much too large and this piece was in scale. It is the gray part on the front fender. I did find a crew figure that I may insert into the open hatch if I can paint it acceptably.

The photoetch is from ExtraTech, a Czech company that makes very fine photoetch for 1/72 scale armor. The machine gun consists of three thinner portions that are sandwiched together to make it thicker. It is well detailed and sitting on a penny (US 1 cent coin) to illustrate how small the piece is.

The kit schutzen isn't bad, but the ExtraTech PE set included metal ones and mounting racks, so I'll use those instead. It'll give the side armor a more scale appearance.

The instructions for this kit have an odd ommission; they do not show the assembly and installation of the rear muffler. It consists of four pieces and there is a spot for it on the rear hull plate. The kit instructions do show it in place in the painting & marking guide, but no mention of it anywhere. At the end of the instructions is a note that any unused parts may be discarded, but only the four muffler parts remain. Strange.

Interestingly Hans, you and I share the same birthday, albeit yours is 5 years prior to mine.

A belated Happy Birthday to ya boss (you share that date with my 2nd daughter)Toast

I started my H-13 tonite. Fun kit so far and proceeding smoothly for such a fragile bird. The originial copyright stamp is 1994 on my whirlybird. I'll get some pics up tomorrow.

HANS- The Su-25 and previously started Me-109 are done. I tried taking better pics but I`m not much of a photog.....

 ...Me-109...

Above is the side I almost ruined by weathering too early..glad my crappy photography hides it nicely....

That`s it. Feel free to pick the one you like for the roster page.  I`m off today and will try to get as much done on the OS2U as I can. Having a heck of a time with it...thinking I got a lemon...no matter what I did I couldn`t get the float halves to match up which now leaves me with a ton of sanding....ah..so relaxing...Bang Head.

My F4U Corsair is out for this build.  Short story--- dogs started barking..I got up, knocked it off bench and stepped on it,,,,beyond repair ..except maybe for a dio as a wrecked downed plane..

Still on with bearcat and F4B-4..also the old Space Taxi which I am thinking how I can make it into an armed moon assault vehicle....HMMMHmm

Len, you didn't miss anything with the Flyers/Pens game.  Personally, I wouldn't revisit it.  The Frogfoot looks good and you're off to a good start with the Kingfisher.  Keep it up.  You shooting for 5 builds?

Mike

Yeah..found out the hard way at 2am..lol. Too bad Bryzgalov`s NHL 2012 character can`t play for the real team...I was playing my son and couldn`t get one past `em. And, yep, 5 builds counting my "started" kits, maybe more...who knows....

Boss, I know that you don't have me listed on the front page (even though I was the first poster.. Whistling ).  That's ok though.  I wanted to see how far I could stretch the 50% build process.  I started an Arii P-47 the week the GB kicked off.  I think there's something like 15 parts assembled with another 25+ still in the box.  As of right now the pit is installed with new scratched details, the fuse is together, the wings are assembled and attached to the fuse.  Still to go are engine, cowls, horizontal stabilizers, landing gear, canopy, ordnance.  Totally up to you, Boss.

In the interim, I pulled out a 1/48 F-5E "High Tech" and got started slapping some paint in the cockpit.  I'll get some pics later when it looks like something has happened.

Started the "Kingfisher" kit while I was waiting on paint to dry on the Su-25...here`s my progress...

Here`s the Gunner..had a huge hole in his mid section...filled with CA...

The pilot figure also had a huge ulcer...here`s the post - op picture with some Tamiya khaki (above).

It`s getting late but I`m going to try and get a little more done. I missed the Flyers/Penguins matinee so I`m watching the replay now...have no idea who won so please don`t tell me yoose mugs!! Thanks for looking.
