Ken, that Outlaw looks great!

Len, Keep it up with the Kingfisher.  Looking good!

I have to say though that I've stalled out for a few weeks.  Work has been taking me away from my house and up into the mountains here in PA for days at a time.  That, and yesterday was our Trout season opener have taken away a good portion of my bench time.  Len, I'm going to have to come out your way and get some "good eatin" fish..

Keep up the great work, guys!

Completed Outlaw
Posted by kenjitak on Sunday, April 1, 2012 2:53 PM

Finally finished my Outlaw. The kit decals went on very poorly and reacted badly to Solvaset. Everything was severely wrinkled and the Solvaset tightened the wrinkles. Luckily I had scanned them and made a new set but these were problematic as well, although not as severe as the original decals. So I am quitting while behind and calling it done. These Revell Ed Roth kits are very detailed and were state of the art at the time. But the construction is a bit fiddly. I remember when these first came out and I was building with tube glue and pulling the parts off the sprue by bending them back and forth; these kits ended up with many broken parts and the holes were often too small to fit the parts resulting in broken axles and really tough assembly for a 11-12 year-old without tools.

Not content with the "stock" setup I added some whitewall slicks, clear lenses for the headlights, and made some coil springs for the front end. I also drilled out the carbs and added some ignition wires. So here's my slightly better executed Outlaw for your perusal:

Was wondering if it would be ok if I switched out one of my builds? The 4x4 van is a rebuilder I got off a buddy. It needs alot more attention than I give it for this cbp.Would like to use the Monogram F-100 1/48 airplane kit instead if thats ok.

Hey Guys and Gal-

Just about done with the OS2U Kingfisher. Applied the decals a little while ago...Sol-A-Set still drying. Need to do a bit of weathering and the "fiddlies"...about 98% complete. Here`s a few pics...

Tried a little indirect lighting above......not so good.

Going to install the wing floats shortly. This build is far from my best work...this kit`s been fighting me since I glued the first two parts together. Had some bad fits and gaps...mostly due to me being impatient but, I gotta be me..Big Smile I have the "High-Tech" version in the stash and want to do the pre-war scheme on that one. I`ll post some more pics when she`s done

Thanks for looking,

Len

Thats why I never built the one I have.  Took one look at the gaps 30 years ago and put it back in the box.

Took a while to sand down the putty needed on the underbelly seam. That went all around the aircraft's outline. Bah!

clampy-do

red stuff is putty, then I had to rescribe.....

moved onto the drone, same issue there too:

more soon!

Back into the p-61 now.  Here's my whole reason for wanting to build this kit.  Wanted to since grade 7.

Also the reason I'm building the A model.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

My computer is fixed now! Yippie!

Here is my first entry, Monogram's 1/72 scale SR-71 Blackbird, with drone

its pretty big

the cockpit had already been assembled at some point, and glued into the fuselage...with no paint!

I pried it out of there, but the pilots were stuck fast, so I just had to paint it like this

Awesome builds goin on here for sure !!

Here are a few WIP pictures of my sprint car, finally had the chance to get to the bench and build a bit. I didnt like the kit axle as you may remember I made a new one from tubing. Got it glued in the quick change housing made a new torque tube from aluminum tubing, added the photo-etch inboard brake and bird cages, and dry fitted it all  to the chassis.

Now to come up with radius rods, and shocks, the torsion arms will be photo-etch so this rear end will work.

Randy So many to build.......So little time

One down.  I'm pretty happy with the results, myself.  I'm going to try some exhaust stains with graphite, eventually.

I love the engines, they look big and mean!

With a couple of recently built Monogram stablemates.

Now I can focus on the Black Widow.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

I've been doing some stuff that took me away from this forum. Good to get caught up.

First- Gray the P-80 is looking fine. Yes that kit is like making a box out of typing paper. Just keep pushing the ends towards the middle. The final result is coming up well. That is a beautifully designed a/c

OWL....Just a thought but have you tried just re-booting your computer?  Sometimes thats all it takes. Try that before reinstalling/restoring.  I know I leave my machine on all the time and when it gets glitchy, I re-boot and all is better.

 troublemaker66:

That sounds like you may have to uninstall then re-install your camera`s software. Hopefully you still have the disc that came with the camera. That`s probably the best way to fix it. If you don`t have the disc, you could try a system restore on your computer. I have a function on my laptop that allows you to restore your computer to an earlier date, when everything was working like it should...this could fix any other glitch you may have been having. You should find it in my computer/ accessories/ system tools/ system restore...just a couple clicks, a reboot and it should work again. That saved my bacon a few times. Try the camera disc , if you have it 1st and the restore as a last resort.

thanks for the tips guys. If I uninstall/reinstall, will I loose the photo files I have saved?

Ive been having other troubles with my computer besides the camera thing, so a family friend who just so happens to be an IT guy said he will come over and help.

You shouldn`t lose the photo`s but you could copy the folder your pics are in to the desktop as a precaution. If all your troubles started recently then I would try the system restore ...may straighten everything out.  Good luck Owl!

Good eyes, Boss.  Yes, the blast tubes are drilled out, just not with a large diameter bit.  The tubes themselves seem a bit out of scale.  As far as the blue, you're correct on that.  The kit decals weren't the proper color, but I wanted to use them as I've never used Arii decals before.  I'm happy that I did.  They weren't too bad to work with once they were off the backing.  Settled down quite nicely, I think.  As far as the shading, there are actually 3 or 4 different shades of aluminum showing.  Some of it is VERY subtle.  It was my first time working with Alclad II so I wanted to experiment.  Thanks for the kind words Boss.  Glad I didn't let you down.

Well, my "criteria," high as it is, isn't going to be an issue wth your Jug, Swingr... Outstanding work, and I like the differing shades of alumnum on the gun-bays and ammo-trays..

Did you drill the blast-tubes out? It looks like it, but I ain't quite sure.. My screen ain't the best one.. Also, the Star& bars, the field looks a little more like they're "Royal Blue", rather than Insignia Blue.. Is it just the lighting?

At any rate, it's a keeper..

Boss, I'd like to submit my first completed build.  The Arii/Otaki P-47 D.  It fought me a little, but in the end I think I did ok.  Hopefully it meets your criteria, Boss.

Hopefully I'll get the F-5 complete soon.

What`s your camera doing..or, not doing?  I have an older Kodak Easy Share that acts up on me once in awhile. Sometimes I have to yank the batteries and then put `em back in...like re-booting a computer...sometimes it needs a couple of moderate whacks against the table edge..lol.  They certainly don`t make things to last anymore.

IM rather technologically challenged, so I dont really know. The computer says the cameras "registry is incomplete or damaged" which is weird, since my camera worked fine the last time I went to download pics off of it....
