Wow.. Some good stuff happenin' while I was gone..

Actually been home for a few days now, but lots of pain and not as many drugs as I think I need... Doc didn't want me to have to little pain, said something about "masking the paint", though maybe he found out I was a modeler ..  Now I know he meant that too strong a pain-killer would "mask the the pain", and I'd get up and start dooin' stuff I wasn't supposed to do yet, like try to walk...

Nurse Goodbody was a doll, and really nice, even when I wasn't (which was all the time), but by the time it was time for my first sponge-bath, I thought I'd won her over, lol..

Turns out I didn't, as I got Nurse Ratched, who washed m' legs & feet rather roughly after throwin' a wash-rag at me and tell me to do my own naughty bits..

I gotta admit though, be able to self-medicate with a PCA  the first night was a real plus..  Every eight minutes I could get a blast...

Sad to see it go, lol...

Owl and Trouble.. ! nice looking "birds' ! Toast

Thanks P38!  I`m calling it done. Here`s a bunch `o pix...Hammer....use whatever one you like for front page.....

Well, that`s it for this one. I picked up a Revellogram P-47 Razorback  for $8 at Michaels and a P-61 for $11 at A.C. Moore`s...gotta love those coupons. I`m thinking about adding the T-bolt, not much to the kit but should be a fun little build. Thanks for looking and all the encouraging comments!

Hey All,

Just about done with my Kingfisher. Tried a weathering technique that I borrowed from another forum member, who`s name eludes me at the moment...he`s doing a P-38 in Rex Barber`s livery in Aircraft. I used X-19 Smoke, Tamiya light grey and medium blue and streaked the entire model in direction of airflow by rapid, continuous passes. Mine is nowhere near as nice as the other guy(sorry) job but I think it get`s the point across...

...tough to see but it`s supposed to be subtle...

That circle is a landing light that I forgot to put in before closing the wing so I used Testor`s window maker...gotta hit it again....

I think it`s not too bad for a first attempt. I`m definately liking the idea but have to work on mixing paints, what air pressure to spray at, etc. Going to try to finish up tomorrow. Comments, as always, are welcome and thanks for looking!

Here's the finished Blackbird (with drone). My brother loved it! He got a big smile on his face and all. He just has to make sure he clears off a space in his room to display it!

if you look close, you can see a bit of variation on the future'd panels. They remained darker even after the flat coat.

Finished the P-61, for now.  I've developed a real love-hate relationship with it.  I'm really happy with what I did with the interior stuff, but the exterior leaves much to be desired.  I"m painting up the ground crew now, and perhaps a diorama later on.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

Beaching dolly looks crooked..

Did you get those decals offa 1/48 B-17 set? Stick out tongue Look pretty big...

Also, I see some really wierd colors with the direct lighting..  Looks "too" Blue...

What shade of Blue are you using? Remember that the red-bordered insignia was only used for a very short time in (Mid-summer 1943 through Sepember 1943) before the order went out to change the borders to Insignia Blue, as gunners were still "Seeing Red" and firing on friendlies....

Love that kit still... I managed to grab another "White-Box" one offa Ebay, and the High-Tech version as well..  Still working on the diorama for "The Rescue of Cap'n Eddie" project.

If you're intersted, there's a copy of his book, "Seven Came Through" on-line, which details the 1942  B-17D crash in the Pacific, their 24-day ordeal at sea in the rafts, and finally  the rescue from a Navy Kingfisher pilot Lt. William F. Eadie, who taxied some 40 miles of open sea back to a base with Rickenbacker and five others lashed to the wings.. (The most severly-injured man, Army Captain Hans C. Adamson,   was placed in the rear cockpit with the Radio Operator)

One crewman, Alexander Kaczmarczyk of the USAAF, died and was buried at sea.)

I'll try to find the link..

It's also chronicled in a chapter of his auto-biography, "Rickenbacker"...

Hammer-

Beaching dolly isn`t glued, just tempy to keep the main float off the deck after a clear gloss. I used Tamiya Med Sea Blue, looks darker in the pic...holding it under my florescent magnifier maybe why? The decals are the kit decals, allegedly the markings are from the USS Detroit Kingfisher , Os2U-3 , VCS-1...no year given in instructions. I usually use whatever decals come with a kit and I`m the furthest thing from a rivet counter that you`ll encounter around here so I`ll have to take your word on the year. Although, they do date the pre-war scheme as "1942".

Sounds like an interesting book, I`ll have to get a copy.  Good luck with your surgery and get well soon Boss!

Hans let the tool do the work, don't over exert yusself.

And fergoshsakes make a promise to us to stop gettin thrown down stairs by nogoodnicks who'll be dead in ten anyways.

Hellcat way good by me.

I just spent a morning tangling up the "Tamiya" vs "Dragon" crowd. Sheesh tie their shoelaces together.

Any mono/rev is a good model.

The Phantom Mustang? Don't ask. Been a little busy breaking heads myself, but it'll come.

Was wondering if it would be ok if I switched out one of my builds? The 4x4 van is a rebuilder I got off a buddy. It needs alot more attention than I give it for this cbp.Would like to use the Monogram F-100 1/48 airplane kit instead if thats ok.

Sure, go ahead... I'll try to get the roster updated to ref;ect it before tomorrow.  Speaking of tomorrow, Folks...

Message Follows, Break:

I'm going into the hospital at  3 April 0530 (Sierra) 2012 for the long-awaited second hip-replacement... Break..

Will be out of the net until Friday PM, and most likely back up and running by Saturday AM..

Break...

Will try to update status once taken from Recovery and put in room, hopefully attended by Nurse Goodbody rather than Nurse Ratched.

Break:

Meanwhile, keep hammering those kits out.

making good progress, I began decals. I only future'd the panels that will have decals to save time as well as (hopefully) get some variation to the all black finish.

For the NMF on the drone I decided to drybrush the paint on. ITs turned out pretty good.
