Lots of good looking stuff going on.

@ Owl If you are going to use the Kit decals reverse the Chinese rondels for top and bottom. The stock ones for the tops of the wings are way oversized, I think the bottoms are also a bit big but are close.

a quick re-scribe and priming later I began painting

the putty monster strikes again!

top colors done, still gotta do the light belly color. I know the pattern isn't 100% but the instruction sheet didn't have a painting guide so I just kinda winged it.

Well Gents, I have some bad news.  My F-86 met with a tragic fate at the jaws of our new Belgian Malinous puppy, Nala.  Stinks, since it was basically done except for a few more decals and clear coat.  I think, if it's alright with the Don, I will start work on a 1/48 Monogram F-80 Shooting Star and submit that as my second entry.

The wheel wells are sadly empty on the model. So I decided to box them in. With lots of measuring and cutting and slicing open my finger, I have this!

The wing roots did not line up that well to begin with, and my wheel well pushed up the shape a bit (oops!) so I got an even larger gap than had originally. Lots of stretched sprue and bit of plastic scraps helped fill it in. There are probably going to be large sections of the plane that will need a re-scribe once im done with it.

Tons of fun.  If I remember I got these for about the price of one kit!

Build update on the Hurricane: cleaned up seams on the fuselage, painted the pilot, glued in the instrument panel decal, cleaned out the openings for the cannons, installed them and glued the wings togther.  Decided to the "the last o the many" scheme.  WIP shot (i hope)

Can I cast my kit in the ring?  Just started the Monogram Hurricane this past Monday.  No extra details just a way to sharpen up the fundamentals.  Do the "Combat Series" count as one or two?  Got the FW-190 and P-51b set and the Do-335/p-47.  Would like to do the 190 for sure.

Well, there`s two seperate kits in one box so I would say they would count as two. I have the P-51/ Do-335 kit and I built the Sabre/Mig a few years ago...I like the combat series idea. I think I have a P-51 and Tiger tank combat series kit in the stash somewhere. Lots of fun in the box!

Alrighty, boys. Ive gotten my second entry started!

the included cockpit was lacking, so I scrounged my spares and commissioned a p51b pit to use as an improved base. I know its not accurate, but I wanted to see if I could make the different parts work. I trimmed a seat cushion form the p51 seat and added it to the kit seat. I also added seat-belts made form tape, with tiny buckles made from wire

Other bits a pieces from the spares, kit cockpit and wire were added to the cockpit. Anything not dark green is extra stuff

I also added random doodads from the spares box to the sidewalls

and painted up it looks pretty darn good!

Alright everyone, between casts I've been able to get my F-5 off of the bench.  Things seem to be progressing nicely in here.  Great work by all.

I've got to say, this thing fought with me at every turn.  Most parts were warped.  I think I prevailed though.  Even used the kit decals.  I do like the grey/grey scheme though.  Thanks for looking!  Any ideas on what I should do next??

Len, yes, the stripers are coming up the river.  Between that and the trout opener on 3/31, I've been stocking my freezer!

Cdn Colin

I just finished the figures and my P-61 became a casualty of one of my cats.  The landing gear is fubar.  Nut sure what I'll do with it just yet.

I think someone makes white metal landing gear for that kit, saw them on Ebay and I think I saw them at Squadron.com. Could always do a crash landing dio....

I finished my Space Shuttlecraft. An interesting kit first released in 1959. This was a 1996 reissue but the decals were in poor shape. Both my Outlaw and this one suffered decal issues. Decided to keep it simple and made the kit look like something that would be on a Convair engineers desk or maybe some Air Force project officer. It's interesting to see what they were thinking the future might hold back then. NASA was started in 1958, but I'm sure this kit's concept pre-dated that, let alone anyone having definitive ideas about what NASA was actually going to do

2012-04-0113-13-35T3iNot much to this kit but what there was needed filler.

2012-04-1521-16-22T3i

The decals' carrier film was discolored but I was too lazy to try to scan and redo them.

2012-04-1521-16-36T3i

2012-04-1521-16-30T3i

The kit included some ground crew and these were more detailed than anything else in the kit.

Oops, forgot to wipe off the water spots before doing the photos. Oh well. It was fun to relive those olden days of modeling!

Gotten all the detail parts and painting done including shading of different panels and all that good stuff so now I shall move onto the decals then a pinwash of enamel wash so not to ruin the decals... I wont use any future cause that ruins the metalizer anyways here are some pictures

A lot depends on your base color.

Both of these MIGs were painted with MM Metalizer non-buff Aluminum.

Black lacquer base coat.

Gull Gray base coat with some individual panels painted different colors.

On Ed's bench, ???

Sprayed my F-86 this morning with Buffling metalizer, aluminum plate.  I like the way it came out, but I think maybe a shinier chrome would have been more appropriate for the Sabre.

Good kit, some parts of the instructions were a little vague, and I did not have a fun time with the rotary launcher, I ended up gluing it in place.

Also started my second build, no pics yet but will get on that.  Started my Monogram F-86 Sabre.  Nice kit, completed construction today, but I don't like the decals so I ordered a set from Sprue Bro's.  I have some buffing metalizer for the finish, but I also decided to include some Alclad with my order, so I don't know which one I'll end up using!

Your eyes are just fine Miss Owl Big Smile The right rear on a sprint is wider and taller, than the left rear they run a bunch of stagger so the car will want to turn. Usually 12 to 18 inches of stagger, you will also notice an offset to the right. Heres a link to a video of the sprints I watch here, non wing of course. Dont like the WOO cars, silly sprint cars wings are for airplanes.

thanks Vetteman. The drone thing was a fairly short lived experiment thing. I thought it looked cool, and figured  my brother might like it as well (and the playboy decals, he got a kick out of those! lol)

vetteman42

Sweet build Miss Owl I do like the way the future shaded the black YesYes Never knew the plane also flew with a drone on top of it. interesting.

Oh and is it just my eyes deceiving me or is the right tire wider than the left?

Well my first of two builds is complete.  This is a F-101B Voodoo, of the NY Air National Guard.  I used airbrushed MM enamels, and hand brushed Tamiya acrylics, along with aftermarket decals and Eduard mask.  Just noticed I somehow smudged the paint on the tail, have to fix that tomorrow.

Its been a while but I have a small update to offer, got the rear end in the sprint car. Still need to add torsion arms and shocks, but scratch building takes time for me. Although the brakes and bird cages are PE.

Haven't posted a WIP in a while, busy closing on a house, getting ready for a wedding, and all of lifes other distractions!

Paint is done on the F-101, just waiting for it to cure, then will be painting the nose and engine area, then Future, then decals, then more Future, then done!

Are they fixed now?

I can see one... The rest are "Moved or Deleted"..

wait--does that mean only one photo is showing, or that the pics only show on the first post?  They are showing up fine for me on my edited post....

Great models everyone. Wish I had time to get on the Phantom Mustang, but it's in a stall. Renovating a house and wearing tools Friday night through Sunday.

Owl, the program lost a pair of airframes when a drone pitched down on launch.

m-21 (60-6941/135)

Great piece of history.

There's an older member of this forum named Darwin who maintained 71's and other various projects out of Kadena. Miss him.
