Alright, this weekend did have some progress...

Just making sure I've got some decent shots of the cockpit before I close it up!

Posted Image

Drilled out the nose cannon. Not sure it's "to scale" anymore, the original looks almost like the muzzle is sticking out of a sheath of some kind, but this LOOKS better to me, and is les likely to snap off.
Posted Image

I also drilled out the air intake for the DB engine, and drilled out areas for the landing lights at the front edge of the booms...
Posted Image

Now, the instructions, see how the gear bay doors are shown without attachment points? Uhh, completely accurate! I'll be using some Evergreen half-round stock to help the attachment here.
Posted Image

Posted Image

Kit wheels (dark green and smooth) are going to be replaced by some FW190 wheels I had in the spares box. The Actual tires have a very heavy tread, smooth simply won't do.
Posted Image

Underside has now been painted as well.

bsyamato, I'm always amazed at the details/improvements that you are able to scratchbuild at these small sizes. I'll have to look at the cockpits of my 2 Viggens & see what they looked like before your work was done.

LoL the detail work just started ,original kit as i remember provides only to an approximated seat suspended in the void :D

Last night used a few milliput co start correct fuselage shapes in the back

Clif i put a dancefloor not a normal floor Propeller a swedish dancefloor !

btw i fear about the amount of correction neede on this kit Sad

Gamera

Hmmm, interesting... with one engine I guess she would be slightly smaller than a P-38. If you have a Lightning Vance in 1/72nd it would be interesting to see the two together.

Only slightly shorter, but a much shorter wingspan. No 1/72 Lightnings in my stash though. (yet Embarrassed)

Tony: Thanks, gotta a lot of work to do, must keep from getting distracted....

Vance: Nice, she looks almost like an anemic P-38!

SG: Good luck with the spray booth, I still don't have one, don't want to know what colours the insides of my lungs are...

Yep, I'd have to compare the specs, but the twin-boom/single engine layout must be significantly smaller than a Lightning. It would be interesting to have the two sitting side by side.

Thanks, Gamera.
Same here.........I used to use spray bombs as a child for painting builds, so my lungs probably have a gloss finish.
These days, I don't paint when my residence is sealed due to cold weather or excessive heat -last two summers / Chicago  winters.
I hope the spray booth changes that and speeds up builds.

Lookin' good, there, ya BIG SAAB GROUPIE .

I need to assemble and insert the J-21 cockpit, assemble the rest for paint..........then build a spray paint booth from parts acquired at American Science and Surplus and MicroCenter over the weekend.

Tony, good to hear from you. No problem buddy, you just pop in when you are able to. I know I have a couple more kits that I want to build for this one as well as the J21. Speaking of the little Saab...

Got home in time last night to do a little work on the J21... Nose weights added, putty blending on the spinner (although I think I still need to do a little more sanding) fuselage buttoned up and added to the wing assembly...

I'm liking your Viggen Gamera, such a powerful 'grunty' looking shape. I've still haven't got on, but it's coming.

I haven't got to my Draken yet Vance, due to other builds, but remain committed to getting it done.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Hah! Making a quilt? More like napping on it Sleep You don't see the putty as much since I used mostly Mister Surfacer which is almost the same shade as the plastic. Mostly putting the Surfacer on the seam, letting it dry ten-twenty minutes, and then removing the excess by stroking it with a cotton swab loaded with Mister Thinner. Only way I could get away without sanding pretty much all the detail off.

Gamera

Vance nice work on the J21A.

Ok, here's photos finally of the Viggen. Sorta coming along, probably need to replace a bunch of panel lines I sanded off. Anyway the tail and canards are finally on her...

BTW: Since Vance has a black cat to sit in his lap as opposed to Blofeld's white cat does that make Vance the good mastermind???

No wonder your Viggen is coming along so slowly, you've been working on a quilt at the same time! Wink I don't see much in the way of putty, must be fitting alright? And yes, I am the polar (Canadian!) opposite of Ernst Blofeld!

Yep, the IP has (wait, do you have this one?) a few instrument outlines in the upper 1/2, which I drybrushed, but nothing below. Looked too empty to me, so I dipped a toothpick into some thick Testors gloss black and added some dots. Once she's sealed up.... well, close enough.

OK, been awhile since I showed ANYTHING on this one, so I'll post up the preliminary pics as well.

The kit:

Good shapes & basic fit seems fine with a tape-up:

Decent little seat for 1/72. Won't be much visible anyway, but I added some tape-belts...

Seat almost finished up, dullcoat & quick was is up next...

In an attempt to keep the twin booms aligned properly, I'm getting those done up & glued into place BEFORE adding the fuselage section. I'm also assuming this has tail-sitter potential, so I've added a couple of lead sinkers just ahead of the booms, inside the wings. A few more can be added to the nose if needed.

And I had help last night. Not unusual, except it has become apparent that....

Nice!

Did you paint on some instruments?

Almost looks that way in the photo.

BTW..American science and surplus

http://www.sciplus.com/index.cfm

is selling Swedish language USB keyboards ( well, their Geneva Il location has 'em ) in case you  become a REALLY BIG SAAB GROUPIE

I haven't done anything to it yet other than pull it out of the box. Still struggling with the Amiot for the Fench GB. But I agree, everything about the kit (other than the confusing exploded directions) looks fantastic!
