I don't know. What does everyone think about changing the name? Then P-38 can get that Hellcat. Steel Cats is king of catchy. Nice job Carl.

If we went with a Catwoman, lol, then I'd have to vote for Julie Newmar.

***Note, I changed the name to Steel Cats. Is that okay? I think it's  kind of catchy. If people aren't digging it, I'll change it back.

Yes Liking.. and the badge is sweet to !

Hey Eric,

I'm very pleased that you have decided to start this GB in September! It will fit in perfectly with the planned completion of my current wip Firefly!

I've been waiting for ages to find an excuse to buy and build this and I love nothing better than building kits as part of a GB!

I'm going to build kit the Dragon Jagdtiger (kit #6493) if that's ok Yes

DN6493

I'll see you at the start of the GB!

Take care,

Ben Toast

Fine, T-man, change the name of the sequel. I see how you're going to be. Stick out tongue

Andy - you don't like cats??? We may have some issues if you get to visit this summer...Surprise

Now I'm wondering what sort of "steel cat" outfits I can coax all of my felines into. Hehehe.

Tigerman:  It would be cool if the Tiger and Panther from the original badge could be added to the proposed Steel Cats badge...that would suggest a sequel while having this GB still stand on it's own merits...thoughts???

This name change opens up a few other vehicles as well - there's the modern Canadian "Cougar", that funky Leopard VK prototype (Hobby Boss makes it), the IDF Puma, of course the Hellcat, the Luchs (Lynx)...there might be more!

Good point dupes.  At some point the build list gets so large it will become the "Steel Tanks GB"...Tongue Tied  I think Tigerman intended to have this be like the original Big Cats and be limited to German armor.  We'll have to wait for him to chime in.

I did open a can of worms, didn't I? Initially I was thinking Tigers and Panthers, with the Leopard. So with all do respect to P-38 again, I'm going to shoot down the Hellcat and all other cat-named armor. Embarrassed

The badge is really cool. Carl if you were never a graphic designer, you might want to moonlight as one. Wink

As for adding the other cats to the badge, I personally like the simplicity of this badge.

Since you like it i'll work on it a little more today . I just want to get the cat symbol larger so it shows up better on a smaller rendention (sp ?) .How about adding something to make German cats more specific ? "STEEL CATS" Germany"

Tough call Carl. Too me and obviously the many here, Steel Cats seems to represent the German armor, since we are all so familiar with Panthers and Tigers.

Maybe I should drop the Leopard too? Seems to be an oddball with all the Panthers and Tigers.

just a thought, but how about an aircraft recognition Nazi flag draped across the top of the steel cat, as was common with German armor during WWII?  again, just a thought.....

LOL. Ok. I sure am waffeling today. The Leopard is still a German tank and a heavy at that. I would like to see some built.

Tigerman: Again, your call...no pressure here...OK, maybe a littleWink.   How about this....if you keep the Leopard in I'll be sure to build it first.  Then, if time allows, I'll get to the Tiger.

Nice!

Carl: I like Bob's idea of the flag but personally I think a metal looking German (Maltese) cross behind the cat would tie in better. Maybe even an Iron Cross if you could work that in there.

Eric: Maybe you could just limit it to medium and heavy tanks named after cats excluding lights and tank destroyers? (The Leopard being a MBT I assume is the modern equal to a medium).

Cliff, the list already falls into that catagory. Panthers, Tigers and the modern Leopard all fall in that area.

Interesting ideas about the badge, but I don't want to overpower it with too much.

Where are all your lobbyists? Wink

Did you mean to say "hobbyists"?

Eric:  You've been bombardedBlack Eye on this thread in terms of the builds allowed and badge design...and I expect you'll get more (have you hosted before?)  I recommend you let this thread continue until you've hashed-out all the input and THEN start a fresh thread. The hash-out usually happens over in armor BEFORE starting the official thread in GB's...live and learn, huh?  It's a bit redundant to make another thread but for those who may view it later in hopes of following along and learning, this bantering is a real distraction...food for thoughtSmile Burger

Lots of good ideas about the badge but the simpler the design the better ..............like Eric said . I agree that when i think of "cats " in armor its the WW 2 Tiger's and Panthers that come too mind . It sounds to me like Eric had these 2 tanks in mind when he started the idea of this G.B.

Good ideas guys Toast

Sorry to over compicate things guys, the badge looks great to me!

And Eric, it's your GB, I'm more than happy to follow any rules you lay down and if people don't like them they can build their model on their own. 2 centsPirate

You know I'm easy Cliff. Wink

Steve, I've hosted maybe 8-10 GB's. Before you came back, the Blitz in the West was my most successful GB to date with over 2,000 posts and some 20 plus completed builds. I'm also running That's Amore Italian GB.

There are always some tweaks with a GB (date, qualifiers, badge), but it's all good.

I really don't want to start another thread. This thread is meant for discussion as well as builds, and everything falls in it accordingly. Smile

So is there a final verdict? Or will we have to wait until the first of September? Zip it!

Personally, I don't realllllly see the Leopard fitting in with Tigers and Panthers (with the exception of the name) - totally different era. If you open it up to the Leopard, maybe it needs to be ALL German cat-themed tanks/vehicles/whatever, excluding the Hellcat and Puma (i.e., non-German)? Unless you're trying to go with just MBTs...or just German...or I'm just rambling at this point.

Interesting points. Shall we drop the Leopard? I agree it doesn't really fit in with the others.

Yes, September 1st is the official date. that was my initial intentions, because i figured everyone would be busy during the summer.
