Man the work here is awesome. I so want to jump in. Sunday is Tigerman Day. I should get close to a full day at the bench. I will be spraying the Jagdpanther in Olive Green, as that was the late war base.

Second, I hope to start my Tiger I as well. For those who might have missed it, I will be adding Cavalier zimmerit. This will be a slow process, so please stay patient. 

I'm still looking for some Tiger Magic Tracks, but I can't procure some, I'll use the kit supplied DS tracks.

Hasen thats some mighty fine detail .  Are you going the electrical conduit to the Bosch light ?

I was thinking about those cast numbers being a bit sharp also and i have been pondering how to make them look more "cast " . Applying more liquid glue and pressing them might work but i'm not sure about all of the variables .

Ben, nice work on the Tiger, i have never tried Pre shadeing myself, fingurs crossed it tgurns out well.

High Eric . Good to hear you'll be able to get some bench time today . Have you ever used DS tracks before ? I read were they are affected in a bad way from heavy oil washes due to the thinner in the wash  weakening the ds plastic material . Just a heads up . 

Carl the numbers look nice.  Are oyu going to "fill" them a little so they are less defined?  

Dave, my wash was buff but dk yellow should work too.  the dk yeelow may cause some color shift though.  The buff is very neutral.

That's what I usually do to - it's tricky to lay down a perfect basecoat to allow a hint of shading to just peep through. I messed up a bit on the turret roof and decided to colour it all in using black lines but I reckon that's going to have to be covered up.

No matter as it's only a practice run for future plain Dunky builds with pre-shading and the cammo to come will hide a lot a lot of it.

I'm going to paint the basecoat Dunky in a minute so I'll post photos later.

All the washes applied (I think so anyway) a bit of color highlighting... really can't see it in the pic too much... and a dry brush.

Starting on the wheels. They are brush with raw umber oil paint and allowed to sit for about 15 minutes. Then I brush them with dry clean stiff brushes, each step with a different, cleaner brush. If the brush loads up too much I brush back and forth on paper towel. Only 2 brushes inthe photo but I used 3.  Then lastly a light wipe with a soft cosmetic sponge… again dry. That’s my base for oil stains, dirt etc.

The weathering sure brings your Panther to life . I see you put some damage on the rubber of the wheels and it looks like you put some dents in the engine deck screens . The zim turned out looking very nice , Cant tell its paper now . I like the chipping also . Dry brushing is well done . Cool tooth picks .....................

First off - LOVING that Panther Wingy! Which kit is it?

Righto, after about 3 times of thinking the build was properly painted and cleaning out the airbrush only then to notice something wasn't right or needed touching up and having to reload it again I'm finally very happy with the outcome!

The preshade worked ok. It's well visible through the panel lines and barrel etc and generally looks good. The paint used for the basecoat was all Tamiya - the usual Dark Yellow mix (Thinner mixed 1:1 Dark Yellow mixed with Deck Tan and also a tiny bit of buff added too). The wheels have all been done too .

Next week I'm going to work out the cammo scheme and get that laid down then get on with some light weathering.

I've taken some photos - the first half were taken outside whilst we still had some decent daylight and the rest were taken indoors where I usually take them. I need to get my decent daylight lamp rigged up for photo taking but with a mix of overcast outdoor light and the indoor lights you'll get a good idea of how she's looking - I can't wait to get some cammo stripes on her and washes. The open turret hatch will need some ivorwhite around the edge and the locking bar inside the hatch will need detailing too - they will all add some nice splashes of colour.

Ben , i can see the subtle effect of the pre shading . It did work out well for you . It shows just enough contrast along the panels and edges .

About the filter . I'd apply that after the camo is complete . It will bring all of the colors together then . I think it would be a waste of time right now .

Yeah, I've thought about it and due to the sparse slices of colour required to make up the cammo scheme I'll filter the whole lot when the other colours are on.

The pre-shading worked well. It's subtle and was totally lost in some places where I got a bit heavy-handed but I'm getting the hang of it now. The track guards look good as do the front fenders.

Ben , sounds like a good idea on the filtering . I looked at this aricle as a guide for painting / weathering . I found it useful myself . If anything it helped me understand the different terms that are used for painting /weathering . And besides , Its from your side of the pond also .

Ben - Great job on the pre-shading and the DY coat. It's hard as hell to get a picture that looks true to life, isn't it?

I'm pretty much at the same place... I have pretty much finished up the detail on the armor skirts. I haven't decided if I'm going to replace the RR bracket yet. I think at the very least I may add the retaining plate/bolt (like the front brackets). I've had a little trouble with the paint adhering to the stainless armor plates. Some of the edges, etc., will have to be touched up. A little more highlighting and I'll be ready for the camo. (Tamiya Dark Yellow + Buff + Flat White - Unknown ratio, but probably ~50% DY/30% FW/20% B)

Ya'll are making me feel guilty for stepping out on my tiger. Well, I did bring a few kits and tools with me and am going to make use of some of my downtime in the motel to clean up some road wheels!

Gamera , i remember working on models in a motel room ..............especially when i was  painting a model from a spray can in the motel room and about suffocated myself . I didnt realize the haze and fumes i was generating ! That room stunk of spray paint the rest of the week that i was there . Wonder what the cleaning lady thought of that ......................

A bit bummed. I was hoping to get more done. I didn't get the green painted, because I was cleaning up the barrel and respraying yellow. I started the Tiger. I got the torsion bars on, but not much else.

Bummer Eric ...........but at least you got to the bench .

Coincidentally, I had come across the same website as I work towards standardizing my weathering techniques for German armor in 1/48. I have intended to follow it 100% as I finish a Panther that has been lying around for several months. From there, I can judge what other techniques I want to slot in to achieve the variety of finishes that I want.

I had a couple of questions from it though, that the enlightened folk here might be able to advice me on.

1. Step 5 : Dust on - what consistency do you mix the pigment powder/enamel thinners too ? Do you apply it to the entire model, or just maybe as an extended pin wash, where you want dust to gather ?

2. Step 6 : Follow the light - application of a dark wash is something that I do on all of my armor models, but I would have done it before application of the dust, for fear of discolouring the dust with the wash spreading through capillary action. However, in this case it is done AFTER the application of the dust. What approach do thers take ? For mine, dust would almost be the last thing done.

Yah. I made a mess of the mantlet for some reason. It didn't go down with glue all that well, so I spent a lot time (wasted) cleaning up areas and respraying yellow. I'm still not totally happy with the barrel, so I'll sand and spray more on it as well. I should have gotten an aftermarket barrel. 

The Tiger is at least started and I might try to work on it after I get home, otherwise it's only on the weekend.

Here's where the paint scheme ends for today . I'm using Tamiya XF-60 , dark yellow , as the Dunkelgelb . I did a random spray of it over the red oxide and let the red show thru . Kinda pretty but I'll see how i feel about it tomorrow .

Marc, Ben and Dave -- fantastic progress all! These tanks are looking so darn good, I wish I could get back to mine -- work is keeping me off the bench at the moment, I can only get on the forum once a day too!
