Theuns: Looks good! I haven't tried the different colour primer trick but what I've seen from videos that should be perfect.

Camera fixed, so here you go!

Primer masked for the lighter pannels

P-47

I then painted black, coated with 2 coats of future as a sanding base and sanded with 2000 wet paper for a smooth finish. It is not super glossy, but very smooth, I am interested to see how the Alclad airframe allu will go on. tleast the masking ridges between the grey and black is totally gone.

P-47

P-47

The streaky effect of the sanding I hope will show through the alclad ,to give some "feel" to the pannels

Hi all.

The P-47 is coming allong slowly. I sprayed matt black and grey pannels as my experience with gloss humbrol was not good. To get the gloss I put on a coat of future (like I did on the small Jug).

For some reason it did not go on very glossy atall, followed by two mre future coats to build up a coat. I then sanded the whole thing with 2000 wet paper and it is now quite smooth. I just hope the gloss will be enough for the airframe allu alclad.

Thanks Gamera. Yellow is the color they used on  the 1/1. I have come to the realization that taking pictures can hide a lot of the flaws on models Big Smile

Ken: Looks good so far. I like the yellow nacelle tips, not a colour you see as often as red or blue.

Wow, that's a heck of a photo! Strange what ends up buried and then washed up.

Thanks Gamera. The P 38 hasn't given up the fight yet. It's becoming a real pain, you know where. But I'm close to finishing it. Will get a couple of pics tomorrow, oops I mean tonight. Even with the continuous struggle, I think it may turn out okay, Yea, Just okay. I'm pretty sure it will become a crashed P 38 just like the real one.

I was looking at the pic of the one they found unburied on the Wales UK beach last year LOL. That would make for a good diorama. For 60 some years, people went there swimming and vacations at the beach and they never knew it was there. The pilot ran out of gas and landed on the beach in ww2, then everyone just forgot about it.

Just thought, Now that's a real force of nature.

Ken & Theuns: Nice work guys! After all the P-38, P-47, and Shiden are my favorite USAAF and IJN aircraft!

I am very surprized how fast this Otaki P-47 is going together. I am already filling and sanding the seams after only 3 evenings work!

P-47

P-47 engine

1/48 Otaki P-47

I am not going to add extra detail to the kit, my main idea with this build is to practice same Alclad tecniques in preperation for my 1/32 Tam P-51D.

Here is the basic George cockpit needing the "hurt your eyes" green paint LOL

George cockpit

I can for the life of me nit figure out what the idea was behind the sahllow wheelwells on the George while the rest of the detail seems so nice! It will be an inflight pose for it then.

Thanks! I did the work a fair while back and had one tiny detail left to go that was defying me, before I headed off overseas in November, then there was a house move that kept me off the bench until the last week or two, so basically I just needed to finish up and post the pics -- so the project was conspicuous by it absence in the last ten weeks or so.

Yep, she was a high performance type with loads of climb, and the streamlining must have been very critical to get so much power into a relatively small package. Reminds me oddly of the Gee Bee...

Mike, sorry i missed this one. So many GB's to keep track of. Thats a really nice looking build. It does look a bit stubby doesn't it.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Theuns -- those Otakis are FUN builds, simple, though they can fight you here and there, the cowling of my Raiden was a PITA to line up. But I expect you'll have great building pleasure and they are a wonderful canvas for finishing techniques, engraved lines and all. I have the Shinden and in fact prepainted the cockpit, the prop and so forth at the same time as the Raiden, I figured if I had the paint mixed I might as well!

Cheers, Mike/TB379

That's a sleek looking plane, in a stubby sort of way.  Nice work on the build, Mike.
