Lol, I know where it was...  I had taken it off to prep it for assembly.  I had to go eat dinner and when I came back, it wasn't where I left it...  It had been painted silver, so I think one of our cats probably knocked it on the floor somewhere. lol.

Dunno about the F-18, but that little trianglar bit is hard to find.

Its on sprue A, if you put the tail wheels and the aerials in the top left corner, its in the bottom right.

Okay.  I need opinions.  I am somewhat limited in my choice of kits for the replacement Hornet.  I can snag one of the following (If my Wife clears it anyways..)

Revell Blue Angel Hornet

R/M A-18 Attack Hornet

ESCI/ERTL/Scalecraft F/A-18A

Testors/Italeri F/A-18

Comments?

Whatever I get has to be under $20, including shipping.  With a best offer I might be able to get one of these kits for that.

Thanks for letting me know.  Right now I'm going nuts trying to find the small V shaped piece for the tailhook and wheel assembly...   I wish my Daughter was home.  She's my little parts bloodhound.  But she's off with her band to a football game.

Looks alright so far. Make sure you cut the hole for the spine aerial before you button her up.

ARGH!!!  I swear that was NOT in the instructions...  Where does it go?

Well.  Here's a few more WIPs on the Corsair.  Assembly will be completed as soon as I touch up some paint.  Mind you, sometimes my hand painting gets kind of messy and I have to go over places or use a bit of ELO if my hand shakes too much.  I don't like to haul out the airbrush for small areas, because it's a huge hassle in the limited space I have here at the moment.  Her are the images.

The wheels painted black..

The Wing Root Assembly Top...

The Wing Root Assembly Bottom...

The main fuselage halves.  I actually have the fuselage and cockpit fully assembled, but I haven't had time to take any images of it yet.

The Cockpit Module as seen from the front.

The Cockpit Module seen from the back and side...

That's it for now.  Everyone have a good evening..

Rich

(P.S.  The F18 is on indefinite hold.  I won't be able to get a new Revell F/A-18C for at least a few months.)

Pretty close to mine.  But the surface detail is a bit better on yours.  Mine doesn't have the rivets on the foot rests, the instruments aren't as good either, and the gunsight hole in the instrument panel isn't as large.  The instrument decal is different as well, and it has a bit more color on mine.  Oh yeh, and your rudder panels look a lot sturdier than mine are.  I just finished up the cockpit, but a coat of Dark Sea Blue on the engine cowling, and did a bit of the detail painting on the engine itself.  Tomorrow a bit of cleanup on the engine, then some more detail to the cockpit and then I move on to the fuselage and wings.  This bird has a lot of options for elevator position and a lot more.  It's a fun build too.

It looks pretty close the the 1A that i built. If it is its an easy built. The only thing i was disappointed in was the exhaust stubs. On a quick note, the window in the belly under the cockpit was painted over. So no need to mask that.

Heres the cockpit on mine.

Okay here are a couple of WIP images for the F4U-1D Tamiya kit.

First here is the engine cowling.  I painted the interior flat black.  I masked the outside surfaces with Tamiya Masking tape.

Here are the prop, engine cylinders engine bulkhead peice and the transmission module.  I used flat light gull gray for the transmission module.  The rest got flat black.  The cylinder assembly will be detailed in aluminum and copper with some gray.

Here are a couple of pieces of the cockpit assembly with interior green and black.  I just have some more detailing to do on them before finishing up the subassembly.

This image is a bit hard to see, but it is some of the landing gear components painted aluminum.

Here is an image of one of the sprues.

Lastly, the instruction booklet.

More to come as construction progresses.

Thanks for the warning.  That takes them out of the competition..  lol  I made a start on the Corsair tonight.  I really wish Tamiya didn't make so many fragile parts in their kits, that only need to be breathed on to break.  First assembly and one of the rudder pedals snapped off.  It's glued and drying now.. lol

I built a 32nd scale F-5 from them. To be honest, you get what you pay for with them. $15 for a 48 scale kit, your going to get about $15 worth of engineering in the moulds.

Imagine an early 72nd airfix spitfire, scaled up. Thats about what you get.

Has anyone ever heard of Kangnam Models?  They have this kit listed on eBay but I have never heard of them before.

Well.  It didn't get done, but here's the WIPs I took of the E while working on it.

Okay, the obligatory Sprue Shot...

The Instructions..

The first bit of paint...

The bottom fuselage taped together while the air intakes dry...

The nose section while drying...

The stabilator mount tube...  This is how the tail should be done.  I wish Revell had done all of it's F18 variants this way.

Top view of main fuselage while drying...

Bottom view of fuselage while drying...

Bottom fuselage view showing the air intakes as they are on the F/A-18E variant.  They strongly resemble the intakes on an F22 Raptor.  The older variants have a rounded smaller intake which is mounted a bit farther aft...

Here is a shot of the almost completed model...

And finally, the engine cones.  I didn't like the look of the pure steel called for in the instructions, so I made up a more weathered looking color from 3 parts MM Steel, 2 parts MM Gunmetal, 1 part MM Copper and 1 part MM Medium Green.  It's actually a bit darker and grayer than the image makes it look...

Well, I'll probably finish her up after I get the build kits done.  She was supposed to have these markings.

Now I just need to find a kit to go with the decals. lol

Well, that's all for now folks.  More as the Corsair gets underway.

Thanks Julez, but the problem isn't the decals, it's the kit.  The Decals I have are for the 1/48 20th. RAAF anniversary Hornet, which is an A/B variant.  The Kit I got, was an E Variant.  So now I have to get another kit to match the decals. lol  The least expensive Hasegawa kit is like $35, which is way out of my budget.  So I will need to find a Revell or Italeri or AMT/ESCI or ERTL kit.

Julez72

I'll have to check but i think i have a decal sheet for the A/B varient, 75SQD i think...

No problem.  I just don't want to end up doing that pain in the butt Monogram/Revell Blue Angel kit.  I hate the tail assembly on that one, and I know I will have fit issues with it.  I've built it before and it gave me indigestion for a week. lol  The Hasegawa kits are way way too expensive, so that only leaves the ESCI/AMT/ERTL kits.  Beyond missing pieces on the first one I got, the detail is horrible on that kit.  The fit is worse than the Blue Angel R/M kit.  So I'm not sure what to do at the moment. I don't think Academy does one in 1/48 and I can't do 1/72 anymore.  Either way, it's going to be an uphill battle. lol

It's almost complete.  All that was left to do was the landing gear and bay doors, the canopy and gap filling.  I'll just finish this on in OOB USN markings.

Yeh, and the air intakes are completely different.  The E/F model's intakes are more like those on an F22 Raptor...  Square, and they are a bit forward of where they are on the earlier versions.  So now I have to get a new kit... again.  I am going to have to concentrate on the Corsair for now then.  I can't get another kit right now.
