NB, nice looking build. I would like to try painting my own insignia at some point. I think that might be my next challenge. Yours look great.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Good job NB! I would never attempt insignia without decals(at least not yet!). It takes me long enough to finish one without doing that kind of stuff. Really liking the soft edges on the camo pattern. Nice job.

Your Fw looks awesome, NB! After seeing all the nice work here, I'm itching to get on with my FW, but I need to finish the Wildcat for the Carrier GB first...

Cheers, Clemens

Thanks for feedback Reasoned - not sure what you mean by "rich format & paste in proper location"?

I use photobucket, copy the IMG button, and paste here, I did this from my iPad, normally use the pc - will try again

NB you did a fine job on the mottling, I know because I was forced to hand paint them due to lousy AB control!

BTW, your image links should post if you use rich formatting and paste link in the proper location.

It's been a while, sorry life in general has got the better of me and model building has taken a back seat. I have been getting all the replies in this build so have still been in touch, great bunch of members here!

I started the Arrii kit, it's a fairly basic kit and I'm doing it straight out the box. My last contact here showed the poor clear bits - the canopy parts were anything but clear. I have a couple of options here - clean them up with micro mesh, build my own from clearplastic, get an aftermarket one,or raid some of my other kits - it might be a combination of these.

This build was always going to be experimental, even more so when I looked at the state of the decals, and the Arri instruction sheet was pretty to difficult to fathom out when it came to colour scheme.

I have now made some progress, here are some pics:

Decided to paint on the decals, so a bit of white primer and flat white was laid down as a base, then masked

i1234.photobucket.com/.../b2f44901828daef95d819c91929f52eb_zpsb31f1187.jpg

Masking lifted the white on one of the underside crosses, have some repair work to do here, not for the first time. Have found some spare decals so might just use them here although not the correct size

i1234.photobucket.com/.../60408581e0aca3fa7b0cd1b4c6dcb7c2_zpse34d8fe0.jpg

Here's the original decals and you can see why I'm not using them

i1234.photobucket.com/.../714f6530a7b94417464ba66f0bc0f312_zpsc3e52467.jpg

Compared with my painted option, the white comes out nicely

i1234.photobucket.com/.../615b0915672823a26704c3520d7ffb2c_zpsb6ff0654.jpg

I have used Model Master Swarzgrau for the upper surface colours and mottle spots, just added some white for the lighter grey. The underside is Model Master Underside Blue with a touch of white added. The painted decals have some rough edges and the mottle has some overspray but will do for now, mission accomplished.

i1234.photobucket.com/.../936aa0071eaea7c4b568d5b46389f7e6_zps4221da11.jpg

Apart from the decals the decals no masking was used, did this all freehand. I used my Paasche H for the underside and first attempt on the upper surfaces. There was a lot of overspray on the upper scheme so redid this with my troublesome Iwata gravity feed which I haven't used in along while. The finer nozzle did a tidy job.

As mentioned earlier this was experimental and am satisfied with these results. Next to fix up the underwing crosses then apply the first dull cote before weathering and all the fiddly bits

Thanks for looking, will hopefully put this one to bed during the course of this week

Amazing how that last flat coat just ties it all together isn't it!! Look really good Doug!! Are we still open for entries? There may be a slight off the wall minute possbility that I may be interested in an Eduard double build....just a sucker for punishment I guess.

Youre dang skippy we are still open for entries! I need somebody here to finish with me. Looking forward to seeing you back in here Eric!

And Eric, I think you could join in up to the last day if you think you can get one done(LOL). And Nathan, you inspired me to attempt this when you said that 48s are screaming for detail too!~ (ha)(always good to hear from you ) After this one I'm going to have to take a break for a short...Other commitments, but I will still be lurking about watching the beautiful work being done here. Take care my friends... More pics soon!

Joe - Good to hear your making some progress. But, in the meanwhile, here's hoping Joseph's team tears it up.

Doug - Thank You for the accolades on the 1/72 efforts. But, let's not pile on too much yet as I still have to pull off the camo scheme that is every bit as intricate as the one you did.

Again, Thanks guys... I never can get over some of the work that can be crammed into a 72nd scale like Joe and Bish can do... Just mind boggling! I cant hardly handle the parts any more!(ha),

And Joe (M) the kids always come first. I talked to a guy one time that had his twin 7 yr olds with him all camoed out after deer hunting, and asked if he had any luck, He just grinned and nodded towards the boys, and said "you got to be kidding". But you know, like I told him, My son is 26 yrs old now and has been in the Navy for almost 8 years, and he STILL talks about the times that Dad took him"hunting". Those are the things that they will remember.

And Clemens... The camo pattern is what caught my eye. JG54 pretty much did as they pleased as long as they stuck to the RLM colors. During the winter the craft was ashuredly almost totally white, and as the spring thaw came they would wash off areas of the whitewash to expose the original camo pattern that was underneath , adding some black splotches to try to break up their outline. I guarantee you this is one of the most challenging pattern I've tried to do on a 48th scale.

More soon guys!

Joe Rix:Nice work there Joe! I'm liking the detail in the 72nd scale stuff.

Rigidrider: Man I don't think Joe Rix could have put it any better Doug. I've installed engines that didn't have the mounting included with the engine kit into aircraft kits that weren't made with opening the engine compartment up in mind and I know about the work involved. This one is coming together nicely When you first started this whole Monogram 190 with all the goodies I was telling myself that you had your work cut out for you. Instead I think the model has it's work cut out for you! Good job Doug!

Everybody:  I haven't dropped off of the face of the earth yet. Just been busy with work and my son's Allstar baseball games and his practices. I've been working on the wing root gun bays and let me tell you there is a slew of stuff to cram in there photo etch wise! It's coming together though and will post pics soon.

First let me tell you all that there is definitely some first rate modeling going on here in this GB. Nice work everyone. I'm a bit overdo posting some pics so I'll give you all one. Although it isn't much I have made some miniscule progress in detailing the wheel wells and painting and detailing the tail wheel. I need to shoot some more RLM 76 up further on the fuselage and then some masking and then the RLM 84 to start on the upper fuselage. Oh, almost forgot that I had my first ordeal with putting the white spiral decal on the prop hub. First one I had from the kit sheet was old and disintegrated. My next attempt was from same sheet from my other identical kit. I didn't trim it as close and although it tore in a couple of spots I was able to slide it all together satisfactorily. Enjoy!

Well here are some more pictures, I'm starting to get into the paint now...We'll let this set up for awhile before going any further. This is going to be a cool paint if it comes out like the pictures. Its just too bad that there wern't more examples of camo schemes that survived the war.
