Ah, thanks, Joe. Will it be difficult to attach the firewall or is that how the Tamiya kit is put together? Thinking about my Eduard, can't see how the assy would be attached, is why I asked. Just curious.

Well I've test fitted the whole module into the basic fuselage and wing assy with both of the latter just tapped together. After a little trimming of the forward part of the inside of the landing gear wells it fit like it was made to. It's really surprising just how good the fit is.

Well folks with much deliberation I've decided to go ahead and open up the L/H wing root 20mm cannon gun access panel. I wasn't going to do this but after all the money that I spent on this upgrade kit  I felt that at least one panel should be open. This is, after all, a beautiful upgrade kit by the way. So we start by showing you guys the gun bay itself followed by a pic of the upper wings with the L/H side cut out appropriately:

...and there was one hekuva lot of sanding and grinding going on here to get this gun bay to fit between the wings so that the uppers and lowers would fit together correctly too. I cut and sanded down the rear and outside edges of the gun bay itself and then sanded the upper and lower wings on the insides to finally get everything to fit right!

The front of the wheel wells had to be totally cut and sanded away to allow proper fit of the nose/ engine module into the fuselage and wing area up front. After all of that I got the fit at the gun bay and nose that I wanted. Here's a few shots of the gun bay/ wing fit. There's a little gap at the front that's just due to my hand not holding it place while I took the picture.

JOE - that engine is outstanding bud - excellent work, and the gun bay is stunning....

JOHN - pumping them out the production line there - also excellent work.

JJ:Thanks for the comments. I wasn't quite done with the gun bays yet. Stay tuned for the pics below here.

Doug:Thanks for your comments as well and for some of the suggestions you had in regards to weathering the engine. I used that in conjunction with some of my own "mix".

Everyone:Got a couple more pics concerning the gun bay. The first is afer a base coat of gunmetal on the cannon and the next one is of the different shades of 02 that I applied throughout the bay with a light MIG wash, highlighting the wiring and some silvering on the cannon for a well used gun.

Looks really good Joe. Nicely weathered and realistic. Are the Barrel tips resin or metal?

Thanks guys! I know it looks a little off kilter just laid out on the lower wing that way but it all comes together very clearly once the upper wings are intalled over the lower piece.

Meanwhile - Progress has been straight forward. A bit delayed as (a) I ran out of paint supplies and (b) I was prepping up the diorama base and ground support vehicles.

Being 72 scale, nothing much to detail. I focused on getting the 190 a proper paint job. Out of the two (Tamiya's and Academy), the Academy Fw190 had better progress.

All photos are Academy's Fw190.

The standard pre-shading with XF-1 Flat Black

Painted the Light Blue with XF-23 which was lightened up with XF-2

Masking the fuselage with a combination of Blue-tack and paper.

Basic layer of camouflage XF-61 Dark Green and XF-27 Black Green all lightened up XF-2.

Working on the mottling.

Youre really good at building anyway. I'd really like to see a kit that you build with one of these "aftermarket thingies" Monty.

Joe, that gun bay is really cool!

Monty, much appreciate your progress pics. Looking great, and a good learning tool for me. I'm still struggling with mottling in 1/48th. And yours is looking great in 1/72nd. Yikes! Nice work.

Monty, Very impressive paint work. You seem to be very adept with your airbrush to pull off such a beautiful mottling in 1/72. Nicely done.

Nice colors Monty. If you can airbrush the mottle that well, I see no need for fuselage masks. Most 190s had real soft camo lines.

Nice paint! I'd need a robotic arm and a magnifying glass to even attempt to do work that good on a 72nd!

I'll second that! There aint NO WAY I'd attempt that stuff in 72nd.....NO WAY!! If I've said it once I'll say it a thousand times, "The work some of you guys do in 72nd scale just baffles me!"

Ok, it's time for me to catch up!

Chanter: Your 190 looks great! That white scheme sure is something unique!

Doug: That's one truly amazing paint job, buddy! One of the 190s on my bench is painted in a similar scheme, so it's great to wacth someone as skilled as you painting such a winter camo! The dio base is looking very good as well!

Jugjunkie: Fantastic work! I can't wait to see her finished! The brass gear legs look awesome!

Monty: Very nice building and painting on your side as well! I'd never be able to pull of such a nice mottling paint job on a 72nd model!

John: I love the snake schemes! Your building progress is looking great so far!

Joe: All those resin goodies look great! You are doing some jaw-dropping work on detailling and painting your 190!

I hope i didn't miss anyone. 11 pages ain't that easy to reply to...

Cheers, Clemens
