Greg,

Thanks,  I'm pleased with the way it's turning out, can't wait to dirty it up with some weathering.

I never had any issues with the flat getting milky. I just don't think it's the best flat coat for aircraft models. It's great as a final coat for armor models though. I think the best Alclad finishing coat is the flat clear mixed with some semi-gloss clear to make it a wee bit shiny...

John, I continue to be amazed by your build. I'd be happy to get even close in a larger scale. Looking great!

Clemens, thanks for the feedback on the Alclad klears. Does the flat seem any less susceptible to turning into a milky white finish than any other flats you have tried?

That is looking too cool for School John. As for the spirals, try and get hold of some of that pinstripe tape they use on cars and guys who do artwork on bikes and stuff. It's incredibly flexible and sticks without being too tacky. You can do 90 degree bends with it it's so flexible and it winds around that hub like a dream.

John: Outstanding work!! She 's looking awesome. So, Did the decals go on aalright or did they give you any hassle? I Love It!!

J.J.: Very nice job on fitting the gun bay doors. Looks great.

Joe: You are just doing an awesome job. Now bring 'er home.

Joe,

the decals were really good,  didn't give me any problems, I used walthers decal set on them and they settled right down with no silvering at all.  Had to use tweezers on some of the small ones to transfer them from paper to plane.

Nathan,  thanks,  For a small model this one has been fun, and I really don't like 1/72, getting too small for me, I already have to use a magnifying hood when I work.  My wife laughs at me cuz I forget it's up there and I'm always walking around the house with it on.

Itg does make me want to check out Airfix's other kits in the 1/72nd line up.

Looks fantastic!  I've always used Tamiya tape and painted the spinners, nice thing about tape, you can keep cutting pieces till it looks right to you

I got most of the decals on the 1/72 190 yesterday,  just the LG ones left to put on.  only the canopy and landing gear left to go,  and of course weathering.

Oh and the prop.  Anyone have any suggestions on how to make the white spirel on the nose?  it did not come with a decal for that. Confused

I just have to say looking at the completed builds and all those great models still in progress, it is simply amazing the quality of work being churned out. I mean this is just one Group Build on an internet humming with Group Builds and the quality here is astounding! I was looking through some older Modeling Magazines over the week end - not that old, 80's and 90's mags and the quality of the "FEATURED"builds was appalling compared to what we have even in our little group build...makes me wonder what we'll be seeing in another 10 years time.....

You know JJ I can definetly agree with you on the quality of builds that this GB is turning out. Not to take away from what else is going on here in this forum but there are some really good builds here! I look at the completed builds list sometimes myself just to admire the work. Around the mid 90 point is where the PE market really started catching on if I remember correctly. I was working in Dallas (Carrolton to be more exact) and used to visit Phils Hobbies (the LHS around the corner from where I worked whis has now moved to Pensacola Florida and is now called Bobe's Hobby House) and the completed builds in their display cases were still great! Back then it was mostly scratchwork for the add ons but the AB skills were top notch, and showed that. God only knows what we'll see in another 10 years, you are right to wonder about that!! lol

Oh  I also have the old AM Yak in the stash but im not sure how it builds up.

Beautifully!! But you have to take care and follow a few guidelines. I did this one for the 1943 GB and am doing a second one right now in the gray scheme, along with my La-5f:

PS: Sorry Mustang for wandering off topic. Back to Wurgers...

Strangely enough, I was looking at my two Yak 3 kits only yesterday. Think I have a Yak 38 somewhere too.

I track all of my GBs in a spreadsheet now, at least now I know what I should be completing.

Regards

Tony

Oh goodness, another group build that I will definitely be joining!! I would be game for either with either of Zvezdas kits, the La-5fn or the Yak-3. I also have the old AM Yak in the stash but im not sure how it builds up.

Nah, I have all of them: Aqua Gloss, Gloss, Semi-gloss and Flat.

The flat coat really is DEAD FLAT. The semi-gloss is great, but it's almost pure gloss. Aqua gloss and Gloss are both great with Aqua gloss being a wee bit less reliable but resistent to turpentine (normal Gloss isn't)

I actally leart most of that today LOL...

Clemens, what did you matt coat with? sorry if you said and I missed it.

I've been meaning to see if Alclad makes a dead flat, just did and they do. If I am understanding you, we both have only the Alclad Aqua Klear Gloss. Now I will have to try the flat.

Mustang - I've just realised that my completed Hasegawa 1/72 A-5 (French) is on page one, but I'm not listed in the build roster.

I'm trying to clear space to go again in this GB, I'll keep you posted.

Cheers

Greg: I don't have clue #1 about all those Alclad clear coats as well. I only know the gloss coat sprays like a dream and looks good. like I said, my current finish is a bit on the glossy side, but I kinda like it. I'll decide if I need to get it looking a bit more flat after the 'pits are trapped between the fuse halves. If that is the case, a coat of light sheen mixed with some flat clear should do the trick...

Joe (Mustang), add me to your list of fans re liking that scheme of yours, and also that yellow tail. Looking great, and I'm still amazed how decals add pop.

JJ, I'm jealous of your exterior fit/finish work. Can only hope I can achieve some percentage of success with my first Eduard. :) We'll see.

Clemens, thanks for commenting on your flat finish problems. You know I don't have the experience to comment, however all feedback and your own comments about how you are moving forward is useful info for this rookie.
