Hi Bish ;

My brothers girlfriend gave me a $25 Gift Certificate for Christmas  from one of the hobby stores here in Sydney ;

I plan on going to Hobbyco this Saturday (19th) and pick up a 1/72 scale kit .

Not sure what I'll get , probably a helicopter kit , so is it okay to join in with you and the others with my gift certificate ?

Your more than welcome Z. Welcome back to the hobby and to the site. Thats a nice looking website you have there, and a great tribute to your wife uncle.

To post pics, you will need a hosting site, photobucket seems to be the most popular. It can be a bit trouble some at times, but it works in the end.

This should help with posting the pics.

doogsmodels.com/.../how-to-post-your-photos

As for the badge, copy it to your PC and then add it to your hosting site, then add it to your sig the same way you add pics to posts. Hope that helps.

New to the forum, new to the community, limited time...

Would like to jump in for the heck of it.

Received a Revell/Monogram 1/48th B-29 from co-author of my website http://www.cooksontributeB29.com and the wife for Christmas.

Would classify myself as "rusty at best" when it comes to skill level. Last build I can recall was the USS Constitution and Cutty Sark w/full rigging and sails back in the late '80's.

If ok to join the roster, I'll review the forums on how to grab badge and post WIP images.

No airbrush here...can't risk practicing on this kit! lol

Did complete priming and some spray painting during unusual warm (60 degree saturday), in Ohio January.

Will be doing the kit as Z Square 8, S/N 42-24849, "Mission to Albuquerque" in honor of my wife's uncle who was radar operator on her and KIA 17 March 1945 over Kobe.

If I am able to pull off a "bombing" good job on the build, she will be the centerpiece of a revamped loft area theme.

checkmate - many thanks for the comments! Glad you like it so far! Yes

Bish - sorry if I had you worried there. Wink  Yep, all the lozenge is/will be done via decals, but I've seen guys paint it on as well. Not sure how they did it, but I seem to recall seeing pre-cut paint masks for just that purpose. I'm guessing your stepdad actually painted it on his RC stuff. That alone makes him a better modeler than I'll ever be. Yes

Mike, the cockpit looks like a model in itself.  It's like a fine sculpture.  Nice work!

I am a little relieved. I was half expecting to say you had painted it. I take it all of the outer pattern is also decaled.

My step dad used to build RC aircraft, and he had a few WW1 aircraft with the lozenge pattern and they looked stunning. These WnW kits do look very nice, i could even be tempted myself.

Correct on both counts Bish. That is a decal, and the way it is printed is genius. It looks so real, one can almost feel the surface texture of the fabric used on the actual aircraft. I have to tell you, these decals that come with the WnW kits are out of this world. The D.VII I'm doing has no less than 6 humungous sheets that barely fit in the box. The printing is amazing on all of 'em - nothing is out of register, the finest print on the gauges is actually legible - and carrier film is almost non-existent. Plus, they go on like a dream.

Mike, that lozenge pattern, is that a decal. It really looks like fabric, which i am guessing it was on the real thing.

Bish, Greg, thanks much for the comments guys! Yes Glad you're liking it so far!

In the next few days I should have the remainder of the framework around the engine installed as well as the fuselage buttoned up and the radiator painted and mounted. Then comes the engine, and it's a kit in itself (a darn good one too), but she'll be fully wired and plumbed since quite a bit of it shows on this particular D.VII.

OK fellas, as promised (a while back I know), it feels good to finally be able to contribute some WIP pics of my D.VII. This is a great kit - the 'pit detail rivals anything I've seen in any scale or era, and everything fits exactly as it should. The paint is Pollyscale, MM, Alclad II, Tamiya, and Grumbacher oils (for the wood grain). All the cabling is EZ-Line, and the belts/harnesses are RB Productions buckles w/ lead foil straps. Weathering is a combo of Tamiya washes and powders

I still need to install the rest of the framework up front for the engine mounts. This assembly is critical because it supports not only the engine, but also the radiator, cabane struts, and additional fuselage panels. Thanks for looking!

Ernest, I am seriously looking forward to see you get started! I have some indy-track links for a few kits in my stash, but every time I look at 'em they scare the heck outa me!

Coming along nicely, Greg.  I never could do cars and vehicles--the windshields always gave me trouble and never seemed to fit--never mind the orange-peel paint jobs.

I knew you wouldn't be able to resist my sutble hint lol. I am a big fan of Fruils myself. I don't use them for any of my Dragon kits, but thats only because of the cost.

No rush on this, the GB runs for a year, and probably better to let bill finish his first. If for no other reason than to pick up some pointers.

Ah!  So this is the GB you mentioned Bish!  Heck yeah, add my name to the list with this:

Yep, its the same kit that wbill76 is building and has a Blog in the Armor forum.  This was a gift from my coworkers last year and I promised that I'd build it and post a Blog.....well its time that I did!  It will be built OOB except for the tracks.  I got this Friul set last Feb at the 2012 Hobby Expo in Petaluma CA specifically for this kit, although I don't remember why I wanted a workable metal track set. Huh?

I've got to finish a couple for GBs before getting started on thiis.  Hopefully soon....

I tried flikr and couldn't get it to work, although I didn't spend much time with it.  Went back to photobucket.  That might be an option for you, BL.

Ruddratt, thanks for the assist there, I appreciate it. These models are interesting because you have to think a lot about how to put them together if you plan on filling, sanding, painting, etc. since there are a lot of movable joints and internal parts. I'm still at the 'staring at the instructions trying to figure out how to do it' part of my build. Bish, I did use the rich text formatting link, and then used the button for inserting images. Not sure exactly what my issue is. I'm sure there's something small that I'm missing that makes a huge difference. Once I find out I'll rejoice!

Bad, that's a lot of parts! Looks like a fun build though. I'm looking forward to seeing this one come together! Yes

Greg, looks like you're off to a fine start on the pickup. Keep those pics coming. I'm loving the diversity in the subjects for this GB! Yes

Been making real steady progress on the D.VII. There's about 17hrs invested in it already and I'm still working on the 'pit. It's quite comprehensive, one of the nicer detailed OOB 'pits it's been my pleasure to work on. The entire assembly sits in a multi-piece tubular framework that makes up the entire front half of the fuselage along with the engine mounts, and houses the 'pit, fuel tank, ammo bin, bulkheads, radiator, etc., not to mention the engine and the guns. Should have some pics up very soon.

Here's a pic of the parts of the kit on the trees both before priming and after priming the color parts. I plan on changing the color to grey and bluish grey, so I wanted to use a light grey primer. I was really surprised the first time I saw the multi-colored trees that Bandai puts in these kits! This is all I've done so far, but I think I have time to finish.

By the way, I think this site hates Flickr, so if the pics don't show up I'll post links as well.

Greg, I'm really pleased to see you building that thing. THere are precious few auto models built in these GBs.
