Bish

Check, does the Betty come with instructions and a paint guide.

The Betty is, well, brown already; no painting necessary.

No instructions either, but some did come with the tea.

Yeah Bish, I was floored by the AM stuff. Thinking Santa's helpers had a hand in it.

Been checking out reviews for the 0/400 you plan on doing. I'll be watching that one with a serious amount of interest - looks like a great kit, and with a parts count of about 160, packed with detail. Looks like it's got its fair share of rigging too.

I'm going to throw my hat into the ring with my Christmas present - the Gunpla Starter Set Vol. 2. Basically it's the 30th Anniversary 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam, which has a really nice amount of detail compared to the previous High Grade version. Now I just have to figure out what to do with it...

badlanguage, glad to have you on board. I am not all that familiar with this genre of modelling, so great to see it. I just had to goggle it to see what it was. Looks like a nice kit.

Mike, i think i might need it. I don't think my other half realised quite what was involved with the rigging on this kit. But i love a challenge. I am thinking about useing E-Z line. never used it before, i normally use fishing line for aircraft antenna's. But heard some good things about E-Z line.

CMK, i might need a copy of those Tea instructions. I can never make a decent cup for anyone.

Bish - I've used E-Z line and find it much easier to use than fishing line, stretched sprue or invisible thread.

I didn't receive any plastic, but I have my brand new Iwata HP- B Plus airbrush. I have a 1/72 109 on the go that I am going to use it for, but I'll start a new kit for this GB, as the 109 already has it's base RLM 76 on, it's too far gone to add to another GB.

Just because it's a while since I built a car, I might do a Hasegawa 1/24 Jaguar XJR-9LM, like this one.

Is there any interest in this, or would you prefer I build an aircraft for this GB ?

Cheers

Tony

Well....here's my Christmas hall, modelling-wise

The M270 MLRS is courtesy of Bullet21 (aka Dennis) for the Secret Santa GB - oddly, there were no instructions included in the kit! Huh? Surprise Sad  Fortunately, I found some online (Hobby Search).

The `77 GMC w/snow plow is compliments of Household-6 (aka my domestic goddess!), as is the book THE HARD RIDE: VIETNAM GUN TRUCKS (part2) by James Lyles.

Bish

CMK, i might need a copy of those Tea instructions. I can never make a decent cup for anyone.

Crying That's sad!

Coffee Instructions came on the inside seal of the tea tins (which is more than you get with some PE sets I have).

The tea is Twining's:  "Gunpowder Green" and "Prince of Wales." Basically, it goes:  1 teaspoon per cup, plus 1 "for the pot."  I think Mrs. Bridges made it that way, years ago on "Upstairs, Downstairs."

Hope this helps you scratchbuild a decent cuppa.  It's probably more an "art" than a "science."

If not, there's always Guinness. Beer

Tony, no, please do build the car. Even though i only do military subjects, i love to see other genres. And its not often you get a GB where a wide variety can be built. Looking forward to seeing that.

Greg, does that mean i can put you down for both.

CMK, i thought you were joking about the Tea. But ye, thats the old way of doing it. Very few people use tea leaves in a pot now, its all Tea bags.

Tony, Greg, nice haul fellas! This is really shaping up to be a heck of a GB. Great subject diversity.

Bish, I'll be happy to help any way I can. The EZ line is great stuff to work with for rigging. One of the guys here on the forum once informed me that it can actually be split to an even smaller diameter. I tried it and it worked like a charm. Just split the end and pull it apart. This will help scale it down to 1/72. CA glues it in easily.

Nice tip Mike, thanks. I understand it stretches easily as well. I was thinking of useing it for my aircraft aerials as well, as the fishing line can sag a bit.

Bish, it should work a treat for aerials as well. Another tip - when gluing it in, apply the glue to the attachment point(s) on the model only. If you apply it to the EZline itself first, the ends have a tendency to curl and that makes it tough to pull straight.

Really like the badge Bish, good job. My preference is to pick it up when I complete. Will get the starting photo for the Jag done over the weekend and make a start.

Made a start on this project--after all the tea, it was about time to do something.

Here's the package.

I finished the Hurricane (James Nicolson), and posted it over in the "Force of Nature" GB.

The Fairey Battle is in the lower right quadrant.

Here are the parts.  After the Hurricane, it's probably the simplest kit in the package.  Not much in the cockpit and gunner's position--and I haven't found much information on the net to assist in adding anything, either.

Reviews on the net (Airfix Tribute Forum and Britmodeler) indicate that it's rather inaccurate.  I'm not planning on correcting anything, just a build-out-of-box.  Simple is good.

Tony, no problem, looking forward to seeing that built. And nice to see a couple of civilian builds in with all the military hardware.

Greg, added. Looking forward to both those builds. Can't wait to se that MLRS.

CMK, i saw your Harricane, i am sure this will be just as good. The Battle is one of those often over looked aircraft. Nice to see one built.

Greg, thanks for that tip. I wouldn't have thought of that.

This is a long running GB and i am hopeing more will jump in as they get kits for birthdays or anything else. But theres not many on board at the moment and hopefully we can spread the builds out. I won't be starting mine for a few weeks, so please don't feel pressured to dive in.

No pressure here at all, Bish. Truth is, I've been wanting this D.VII kit ever since the test shots came out. It got so bad that there was not a single kit in my stash I could motivate myself to build while I waited for the D.VII's release . It's been worth the wait though. Been making slow but steady progress on the 'pit, nothing photo-worthy yet however.

Oh, and earlier this year, my wife presented me with a WnW Fe.2b (late version) for an anniversary gift. It's a heck of a kit and it fits with the theme of this GB, so I'll be around for the long haul.

Very nice work on the A-4. I've always thought it to be a sleek-looking aircraft. Looking forward to seeing it painted up.  Yes

No one gives me models either. Sad  They tell me they don't know what I like to build (even though i build almost anything), or they think I have too many kits in my stash.

Until last night!  My friend gave me a Spindrift by Mobius Models.

So, may I join please?

Greetings,  last evening, I actually started on one of my gift kits.  Here's the first pics....

The chassis of the `77 GMC pick up   I just thought it would be easier for painting to build the chassis on the sprue prior to painting and installing the engine

After these were taken, I hit it the underside with a coat of flat black...it's currently drying and I'll hit the other side when dry.  Now I'm off to strip the GM engine blue off the engine, so I can repaint it Chevy engine red. Oops

Nice start Greg. Looks like a good move building that on the sprue. Is the oops down to your error or the kits.

Theuns: Nicely done scooter!  Looks fantastic. Toast

Bish: the error was all mine....kit called for painting the engine aluminum. Huh?  For some reason I had it in my head Chevy engine blue would look nice - I even found one or two pics that way.  But alas, Chevy engine red is what is right, so I cleaned the blue off with lacquer thinner and am about to repaint in the Chevy red.
